I am a get up and see what my day holds and see what I feel like doing for training kind of gal.  I've decided that I just can't operate like that anymore.  So, at the top of my Training Log, I've added a weekly goal chart.

I just started Monday and, to my surprise, instead of putting the pressure on, it's actually taking it off!  I had to shift my 2 mile run from yesterday to today, but so far so good.  I highly recommend this.

Just sayin'.

lkagop - 2009-01-08 1:27 PM Where is everyone (with the exception of James)?

Devising plans on how to get all my workouts in, how to motivate myself to do ANY of it in the AM (how do you guys workout before work??????????)

Mostly trying to figure out how to lose weight.  I did the post-holiday weigh in and AM NOT PLEASED!  It seems like everyone here is generally ok with their weight, or confident that their plans will put them at a good place-- if there are others who are thinking about it, let me know!  I've never tried to lose weight in my life (in the past, consistent swimming always kept me in check) and never gave much consideration to nutrition, so am trying to figure out the basics now.  Here are a couple articles I came across when trying to figure out what I should be doing and considering, calorie-wise:Eat Healthier By Doing A Little Math and  A Calorie Is Not A Calorie I found them both to be interesting and useful to think about.

Aside from battling my flabdominals, I think I'm on track for the Ironman Challenge this month:

January's totals:
Bike:1h 50m 02s  - 27.32 Mi
Run:1h 49m 13s  - 9.75 Mi
Strength:1h 10m

The only part I'm doing double Iron is the Run.  I'm planning on a min of 1mi swim tonight to get some swim #s on the board, but will likely bang out half of it. How is everyone else doing on the challenge?

Hey everyone: I'm Back

Let me start off by saying: I want to thank each and everyone of you for keeping my sister and my family in your prayers, by the grace of god and my sisters inner strength she's doing very good now, we're very blessed. Once again thank you all.

This is a big weight of my shoulders, now i'm raring to get back. I know a few have begun the challenge so i have some catching up to do. Happy to be back.

It is soooo tough getting up early in the morning.  I work from home and don't have to get up early, but I'm choosing to of late to just get it out of the way.  There was another thread yesterday about ways to get up early.  One person said to drink water before going to bed.  That way when you wake up, you HAVE to wake up.  This'll require a little practice for timing and amount needed.  Also, you can have your stuff packed the night before.  Those things might help.

Flabdominals.  That's funny.  I count calories by writing down everything I eat.  It's so eye opening.  I'll do a few weeks on and then a couple weeks off so my eyes don't pop out of my head.

I think I'm on track for the challenge, too.  I'll be biking 24 miles a week doing spin classes, so I'll just take an extra one toward the end to meet the goal.  Swimming's looking good, too, it's the running that's giving me trouble.  I'll make it, though!

That's great you're gonna double the run mileage.  That'll be awesome.

That is terrific news Jose...glad she is doing well and you are back!  I'm still here Lora...I guess we can excuse James for a few days.  Tongue out  I did my 6mi today...I am so excited!  I looked back and realized I hadn't run that far since my marathon relay in Sept!!!!  I did a 5.6mi in Oct and Nov, but that has been it.  And in 5 weeks I am scheduled to run 13.1!!   hahaha

"excuse James for a few days"  What day is it anyways??

I plan on getting back on Monday and stll hit the Ironman goals. After watching my wife give birth in 3 hours, she showed me what toughness is all about! All I want now is some sleep and we will be fine. My wife made a comment about how this might screw up my training for awhile, but I told her it was the least of my concerns at the moment! Life is good!!!

More pics will be added to the album soon. Thanks for all the well wishes!

Your half is in 5 weeks, Tim?  So, I'm assuming you've got a run focus at this point?

James, hope you can get some rest this weekend before starting back up on Monday.  So glad that life is good!

I guess you could call it run heavy...I'm thinking run really heavy!    I found a plan (and tweaked it a little) where I only run 3 days a week.  The first week was a total of 12mi, this week should be around 15mi, next is 18mi, then 17mi the final week of this month (it's a recovery week!  haha).  Then one more big week of around 22mi the first week of Feb then taper off for the big run.

Whew...gonna just take the off days as they come and see what they feel like and determine at the time about adding bike/strength training.  My wife got me an indoor bike trainer for my bday so will hopefully be getting it this week so I can start up with some indoor rides to get my bike legs going again.  My pool is still closed.

Congrats ont he trainer Tim, I like mine and use it alot, especially during the cold. This way I can ride at 10 PM and not lose any family time!

I had a 58 minute swim scheduled to day but got some wicked calf cramps halfway through the swim so I cut it short. I will make it up tomorrow though. I am still planning on hitting the Ironman challenge for the month!

Also the gym I work out at posted its annual indoor triathlon today. 500 yd swim, 8 mile stationary bike, 2 mile treadmill run. This mioght be the only race I could ever win!  LOL

I am really looking forward to the trainer.  UPS tracking said it should be delivered today!  Yeah, since I work nights I usually have to cram my workouts in in what little daylight I have available and then I don't get a lot done at night once my wife goes to bed.  Feels like I waste time that way, but now I should be able to use some of those late night hours to get a workout in!  I wish my gym was 24hrs, but they close at 10.

And is Baby Jesse a razorback?

And welcome back Toni!  Good to see you doing well and now we can start annoying/inspiring you again.

James, sorry you had to cut your swim short but I commend you for, you guessed it, "listening to your body."

Tim, did your trainer come?

Toni, glad to see you posting.  Thanks about the pic.  It was taken this December when we all went back to my hometown of Charleston, WV to visit my aunt.  Since we're sharing pics, here's the original.  From left to right:  my kid sister, me, my sis-in-law holding my 2 yo neice and then my brother.

The trainer did arrive!  It's 1045pm now and am about to get the bike setup and get rolling here soon!  I don't have a mileage computer set up for the rear wheel so will just guesstimate the distance.  I am so excited...like a kid on xmas!
