I have been faithfully patient about not swimming and only doing drills and it is paying off. I cannot say enough about this coach. she is absolutely awesome!!! Are you doing Total Immersion? My TI coach had me doing drills for weeks - I was SO happy when I finally got to do a full stroke. Lisa L |

I'll run/bike all day in 95 degree weather with 90+ humidity - that's my kind of weather. Just got back from the gym - did 30 minutes on some bike trainer with a computer screen. You pick the course, set the time and go. I chased other cyclist around the California coastline - wasnt too bad but the saddle was really uncomfortable. Followed that with a 30 minute run on the treadmill - havent been on a treadmill in over a year and now I know why, but it did the job. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning kids! Funny how we all get acclimatized to our own weather........I am naturally HAPPY in the cold and definitely run better in the winter. Now unfortunately the city I live inis famous for extremes.....and in the summer it gets WICKED hot with very high humidity. But somehow my body rejects this. I am UNABLE to run in the heat. Hats off to those of you that can! You are lucky! I think part of the problem is that I do not sweat, so I probably get overheated much more quickly than the average person. But I can ride in ANY temps...extreme heat or cold is fine. |

It's a lot to keep up with but it's just fun to read about everybody's progress and adventures. I think as a beginner its kind of important to keep an eye on your cadence so that you do not "mash" which can be really hard on your knees. But what cadence you will kind of settle at eventually is kind of personal. I am not even sure what cadence i ride with........never did replace the cadence magnet on my sensor. |

It's a lot to keep up with but it's just fun to read about everybody's progress and adventures. That is a loaded question... because it doesn't matter who you ask you will get varying answers. So... this is from what I've read and from my experience. I no longer ride with the magnet on the back wheel when on the trainer. The speed doesn't relate to the real world. I do however keep the cadence running. Basically, for me I like to have an idea what my cadence is on the trainer... this way when you get out in the real world, you can pretty much keep cadence steady and relatively close to what you've settled on with out looking down. I also use the HRM extensively... because that's what you are going to use as a guage for your effort. (if you have a power meter--even better). As for cadence... that's a highly individual thing. The general wisdom is to keep the cadence as close to 90 rpm as possible. This of course depends on leg length, leg strength, crank length, etc, etc... so it depends on who you are. This will also vary on the length of race you are doing. Longer races, require slower cadences so you don't burn out the legs. Accepted range for riding is between 80 and 100 rpm... with the goal being 90+ for a comfortable pace. Of course that's up to you. I will add the following: Once you find your maximum AEROBIC heart rate, try to retain that cadence in that zone (Z2) in a gear that will accommodate. |
