Subject: RE: The Ghoulies are doing Ironman distances this month!deehtz - 2010-04-06 10:11 AM I am looking at doing my first open water tri on July 4th. But I don't know which one.
One is only about 20 minutes away. It is a man-made lake where I have hoped to practice when the weather improves. This is the first triathlon there so I don't know how organized it will be. They are doing an Olympic distance on the 3rd and a Sprint on the 4th. The Sprint is 750m swim.
The other one is a little over an hour away. It is also a man-made lake. This will be their 4th year of triathlon. The Sprint is 300m swim.
The tri I just did was only 500 yds in a pool. Should I go for shorter swim and organized, but further away on a holiday or for longer swim, inaugural tri, but really conveniently close? Have the people that are putting on the Olympic put on any other triathlons? Do you have some patience and a sense of adventure? If yes, then go for shorter, new, and closer to home. If this really bothers you, then it would be less stressful to do the longer tri that is farther away. If it really doesn't matter, then flip a coin. |
