Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED I just got some Oomph shorts (400 mile and classic tri). I like how they feel, though they are a bit snug. I was on the highest weight end of the mediums and the lowest end of the larges. I went with the mediums, thinking I would lose some more weight in the next couple months. If I don't, then I'll be ordering some larges. I also ordered a pair of Zoots & a pair of Desotos. I haven't gotten them yet. I'm waiting on the results of the x-rays. My doctor is acting like a complete dillhole. He will probably order up an MRI (which I wanted him to do in the first place). It's been 2 weeks since I hurt myself, and I'm really not feeling much better. I miss running so much!!! Weighed in at 144 today. |

If you read "Born to Run" there is a a PhD disertation on chia seeds. very good for you, I've looked for raw or ground chia as an alternative to flax but it seems you can only get it over the internet right now. |

When I've worn away the inseam of my tri shorts (b/c of my fat thighs), I send the shorts back and they repair them for free. When one pair was unrepairable, they offered me 40% off for a new pair. I've used Oomph shorts for the bike but, once wet, caused a lot of chafing on the run. I'll use them for bike shorts but prefer the DeSoto for any bike/run training b/c the simple fleece pad is more comfortable when wet. |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED Kelly, Thanks for all that info. Almond milk is delicious, but as jsklarz said, buy the right one. We shouldn't have to tell you that, you're much smarter than me when it comes to this stuff. I also remember reading about chia seeds in that book, and also in another nutritional book I have. Let us know if you see a difference. Is it treated as a snack? Edited by rizer22 2011-01-24 8:53 AM |

So I went latter by myself I did 26 miles and I wore layers so the cold wasn't that bad but, the wind is what kills it seemed like to was in my face in ever direction. I really wanted to increase my distance so in addition I did an hour long spin class. so the day wasn't a total loss. what is "cold" in florida? under 60? You would think but, it was actually in the 30's and the wind was blowing at about 14 to 18 mph which makes it feel colder I guess. Not quite what you guys are getting but cold enough for the heat to go on. |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED Nothing surprises me when it comes to what's in someone's pantry. I grew up in a house that had Cheezits, cookies of all nature, chips, pretzels, kraft mac and cheese, etc. in the pantry 24/7. It was nothing to kill a whole box of cheezits at a sitting. Probably why I was 200+ lbs at 10 years old. |

It used to be this way at my house too. The wife finally decided to clean up her diet though. Her being on Weight Watchers has made me have to do a lot of research about the way points are distributed though. Glad she's taking diet advice from someone besides me though. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED Sorry to hear that, but that is easily remedied, but may take a few weeks. I have found it hard to "stretch" the IT band, but foam rolling works great. Be carefull\ to get totally on your side so that you are actually hitting the IT band (it is a thin strip going down the side of the quad) and not the outer quad. Almost like doing side planks, make sure you are straight up and down. One you get to the point of foam rolling where you can balance 100% on the roller while rolling the IT band (and not really any pain all the way up and down), you should be feeling much better. So sorry someone else land in my boat on this . . . |

I also have gloves with reflective piping and reflective parts to my vest. BUT...I am in all dark colors. Great job on the long run. Walmart sells road-worker style vests in both a mesh style and a "solid" style. Nike makes day-glo yellow shirts in long and short sleeves. I haven't found lighted shoes in my size yet. Try to avoid dark colors. There are a couple of people here who walk at night or walk their dogs at night wearing dark clothes - they are damn near invisible. Sometimes they have a flashlight with weak batteries - still almost invisible. I forget where I saw it, but you should aim for active (lights) and passive (reflector) illumination. You sound like you've got that part down. You should be running against traffic, and if you are using the headlight so you can see, you should also have a blinky light facing forward. The flashing really catches the eyes. And stay alert. You are your first line of defense. Now the depressing part - no matter what you do, there will be people who simply don't/can't/won't see you. |
