Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge rnihill - 2011-01-22 2:48 PM Hey all... I know I've been quiet lately. Things have been crazy here. My daughter spent most of Thursday at the hospital getting another round of meds for her low platelets. We've had TONS of snow all week... and I'm finally getting to go out and celebrate my birthday tonight! I really just wanted to stop by say that I'm going to have to drop out of the actual challenge. I'm trying to squeeze in exercise when I can and trying to eat well. I just can't find the time to keep track of it or log it! I'll still hang around the thread when I actually get some BT time, though, if that's ok with you all. I hope she's doing better. Keep us up to date on her progress. |

Master 1346 Gold Coast | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge wgraves7582 - 2011-01-25 10:11 AM I didn't start the challenge but can I make a suggestion. I have noticed people have stopped logging and that bothers me. Challenges are supposed to push people and not scare them away. Here is my question - how about we do a week 4 playoff and send PM or inspires to everyone that logged some points and we can have a final week free for all. We could even seed the top and bottom teams like someone suggested in the beginning based on point totals and have a 2 tier playoff for the final week. Just a suggestion to try and keep people motivated during the cold months of winter! I'm all for that - we seem to have lost a few people each week which is sad! |

Master 1346 Gold Coast | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge Hi guys, now I realise there is a whole forum devoted to this topic, but as a group of people who probably know a bit more about me than others on here I have a question for anyone with an opinion The next tri I am entering (an almost Oly) in about 6 weeks has an Athena category. I'm not entirely sure what the exact weight cutoff for it is but suffice to say I am tall and unless I starve myself to look like skeletor I am going to qualify. So, should I enter it or should I just stick with my age group? (Ideally I would like to drop down an age group to be honest because the 25-30 year olds around here are slower than the 30-35s, but I realise turning the clock back a few years is sadly not a valid option!). |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge Rachel, I don't know what your rules may be in Australia. Here with USAT you have to stay in the same category all year. Soooo, if I opt for my AG I have to stay with my AG all year. If I go athena, I have to stay athena. Can you verify what the rules are for you? I know athena tends to be less competitive here, wouldn't have a clue there.... |

Master 1346 Gold Coast | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge None of the comps I have been in here so far have had an athena category. This race is in a different state so different organisers to those I am used to. I will definitely give them a call before I enter if I decide to go Athena, I'm just not sure if I should even entertain the idea. |

Do they have last year's results posted anywhere? I know that things change from year to year, but if you can look at last's year's results, it might help you decide what direction to go in. |

Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: January Training and Nutrition Challenge Well, I know I'm not officially part of the challenge anymore... but just wanted to share that my daughter had an excellent platelet count today! So good, that she doesn't have to get blood drawn for a whole week. It's the little things... So I celebrated by gettting a short run in tonight. Hubby was supposed to bike with me to kick off our latest weight loss competition... but he's still bumming around on the couch. What an excellent day - and it's only Monday!! I swear, I am not normally so chipper... |

Rachel, I don't really have any advice other than what everyone else has already said. But this cracked me up because I thought almost the same thing this past summer. Only it was that I was bummed because I had to move to the 35-39 category, which is a heck of a lot faster than the 30-34! This aging thing stinks all around... |

Thats not the way its supposed to work! Pretty sure I'm going to race in my normal AG. There were only a few Athenas in the last tri and I could probably win on a good day but would come somewhere in the middle in my AG as usual. I think I might feel guilty picking Athena just so I could be in with a chance to win.... |

I notice that some people are posting daily, I've been keeping track in a notebook (yes, I am so high tech) then adding at the end of the challenge week. Please dont think I am sandbagging, just dont have internet access at work to be able to add daily points. My BT logs are up to dat though and I want to thank this challenge for drawing my attention to the fact that although I train a lot, I dont eat well. Since starting this, I have gone from an average of 3 or 4 servings of fruit and veggies per day to sometimes 8!
