Subject: RE: Ironman St. George : Official Thread they are saying winds out of the north for race day- would that mean we would have a tailwind going up 18 out of Veyo? Is that possible? I rode with some local guys today and we had north winds. Geez, I sure hope we don't get those race day. Its in your face all the way uphill until the Wall, then you get a push... which is nice. But at the top, "nice" ends and its a full headwind into Veyo. I thought this was the hardest part of the ride, top of Wall to Veyo... in a north wind anyway. Back into St George, there's a couple places where you're getting wind in your face again. Not sure how this happens since its in your face all the way up. By then you're done with major climbs though, so no big deal. There are a couple corners you make in the Gunlock reservoir area where you come around the canyon wall and its pushing against you so hard, really surprises me. Be ready for those. The only upside, all your competition will be having a hard time too. I tell you though, no way I'm looking for a north wind on game day. The one little push up the Wall isn't worth the other 25 miles of headwind. I also got to see a local rider in action and his German buddy today... friggin fast. I don't know if they're in my AG, but those who are with Kona slot hopes... good luck! |
