![]() ![]() | ![]() Can't wait to hear more about that Master's class SueZ. I've been thinling about finding one, or at least stealing some workout ideas. amybecca - 2012-06-27 3:45 PM Since we share our successes here, I thought I'd share mine. I've lost a lot of weight getting ready to do this tri thing, which I had hoped for! But I've gained SO much more than I lost...and I wrote about it on my blog today, along with a before/during picture (because we're not at the after point just yet!). So, if you want... threecatsandakiddo.blogspot.com
That. Is. Awesome. I went on a killer 10+K trail run. No GPS just a stopwatch and a dog. I thought I had my dog worn out and beat, lagging behind with his tongue all hangin'. I was feeling good and proud of myself. Then at about 1 mile from home he turns on the jets and takes off again down the trail. I finally catch up to him waiting for me in the driveway. Damn dog.

Not at all. I am finished being sick and over the ankle problem for the time being. I signed up for the Mack International distance on 9-9-12 on the key so i start the training tomorrow. So looking forward to getting back in the grove and ready to run. Welcome back! I should think about that race. Something inbetween to keep me interested. See you out there this weekend perhaps. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() suzimmer - 2012-06-27 9:44 AM Terri, sorry I missed you at PP last Sunday. After my swim I was waiting in transition watching the bikes come back in. Wow! The elite racers are incredible. Flying up to the dismount line and seamlessly dismounting the bike and into a run without slowing down. Then there were those who didn't quite have the knack yet. Saw a couple of crashes. One poor women came flying in and then both she and her bike fell but both kept on sliding across the pavement. Ouch! Her knees where in bad shape. One guy who fell almost caused a pile up behind him. I heard the swim was long (over1500) did you here about that? If true, makes me feel a little better about my time, although I still was the last out of the water. I have to admit that the Master's class was actually not bad. I'm actually going to sign up and go every Tuesday. Very challenging, but I liked it because it kept you moving. Very short breaks between sets and when it was time to go, it was time to go. I will post the workout in my log. Have a great Wednesday! Gotta do some long swims soon. I enjoy the swimming but I tend to swallow a little water when I get tired. I hate to see the wipe-outs. Arg! I have to become a better runnner so I don't feel compelled to go all 'dare devil' on the bike. |

Today- my legs felt achy- went to spinning class in the morning- flush out the DOMS Tomorrow- TRX class at the Y Friday- run or spin? can't decide which
Awk1987- love the race story- everyone, keep the race stories coming! Amybecca- I was doing weight watchers for a while, I stopped since working out with the tri people- I didn't feel like I was getting fueled well enough. I'm losing slower now, but I'm not starving, and I have the energy to work out longer. Congrats... some people NEVER get the need to fuel part of this. WELL DONE. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just checking in with a quick update. congrats to all the racers. I am 5 weeks post surgery. I started partial weight bearing and physical therapy this week at 7am in the morning. Partial weight bearing is painful but necessary to get me off the crutches. I have on an aircast walking boot that is hot and funky. I also started back to work this week too. There was only so much unpaid time we wanted to take. That the downside of working full time but having your hours split between 2 part time jobs, no ST disability. I guess I should buy some for any future incidents. We managed without my income and could go longer but I was tired of being home. Lovey |

I am not allowed to soak my foot yet so pool, baths, hot tubs etc are out. The minute I can, I am getting a pedicure! Other than my ankle, my biggest discomfort is sore shoulders from walking on the crutches. I am tryiing to do a lot of upper body stretches to loosen up the muscles. I am looking forward to when I can go to the pool. Swimming helps stretches the muscles. |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nothing like a little jury duty to mess up an entire week. Steph – nice swim workout. I like the variety, and I feel your pain in the water–swallowing on the weak side. blech Lovey-nice to hear from you. Glad to hear you’re on the mend. Amybecca-LUV your blog! Great photos & congrats on all your successes. What a fantastic place you live (though I hope you’re not affected by the fires!). My son goes to school in Greeley, and we try to visit a few times a year, even last Feb when there was 2 ft of snow! (WTH??) Susie-fugeddaboudit! I decided so late to volunteer I barely made it myself! I needed to participate/spectate in some fashion to a)scope the race for next year; and b)give my slacking mojo a kick start! I did not hear that the swim course was long, but I did hear that the bike course was way short (like 4 miles) because of the construction related re-route. And the run course seemed a little messy – very confusing if you missed the 1 sign, and several near collisions due to the Oly/Sprint courses splitting and then merging back together. Some colorful language ensued, lol. And your masters class sounds awesome, exactly the reason I joined LT in the first place. Sadly, the ‘coach’ at VH seems to prefer to assign really long, complicated sets and then go sit in the office. :p Hope everyone has a great weekend! Terri |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lovey - keep on healing! Great that you can start weight bearing. I would be going absolutely crazy by now. I have a friend, who when she was in a cast with a broken foot, rented a wheel chair and would "race" around the bike trial. Said it was a fantastic upper body work out. Steph, I have been deep water running in a therapy pool. (Nice warm water!) I have belt and recently purchased "water runners". They kinda look like short snow boards that you strap on your feet to create more drag. Have to work really hard to move those suckers through the water. Happy weekend everyone! |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Bike is toast. Just a bunch of swim/run for me now. Going to the pool for lap swim. Why is lap swim only an hour and open swim is all day? Not that I can swim for an hour, but with travel and waiting for a lane I usually only get 20-30 minutes (which is plenty). I'll add a 2 mile run. Friday I got a nice 2 mi. run/ 600 swim/ 2 mi. run. The runs were very hard, especially the second, with some good elevation changes. I love pulling up to the water all huffing then blasting out my swim set, then putting my shoes back on and running past the bewildered shore dwellers. They are all "too cool" teens and 20 y.o. sneaking beers by the lake. I know they snicker at me, because it would be the same thing I'd do if some skinny idiot pulled up with his swim jammers on under his running shorts and started lapping the shore line. If I was 15 years younger I'd be there showing off my underage drinking, flirting, and ridiculing strangers too. --My coworker admitted to throwing bottles, loose change, words, etc... at bikers on the road. I tried to explain to him how dangerous biking was without people intentionally trying to kill them. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I went to my first tri today! Erhem, I wasn't competing...just volunteering. But it was so much fun! It was a small, local, laid back tri and everyone had a great time. It was nice being able to see everyone having fun, doing their best, and supporting each other. This is the best sport. And I feel way more calm about my tri in a couple of weeks because of seeing how the transition areas and stuff at this one worked. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Good to hear an update Lovey. Do what the doctor says. If it were me, I would be constantly injured because of ego. Stupid brain says "You're not hurt, suck it up and try to S/B/R". Maybe it's because I'm a male 18-35 y.o. That's the most dangerous/idiotic time period for us. Got some good practice swimming in windy chop, but how bad can it be in a pond? I'd like to do some ocean swimming, only then can I truly say I'm an OW swimmer. Also shared my first lane at the pool yesterday. Not circle swimming, but just splitting the lane with a really nice older guy. I overheard the swim team (who ended practice right before our lap swim) call the lap swim "old lady swimming time". They were right. Mostly old ladies, two old guys, and me. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() 3/4 mile OWS yesterday. Started in the weeds (creepy feeling) then swam out into some DEEP water. No nerves, but toward the end my stomach started to get upset and that made me concerned. Had to swim over to a shallow part and rest for 5 minutes. I felt much better when I got out. Weird. My son (6) was going to run in a kids 1K race and I was to do a four mile race on the 4th, but he and I are going to do the walking option together after trying to run the route yesterday. We ended up walking about 2 super fun miles together. That's after the swim and taking my daughter (4) on a 1 mile hike through the woods with our dog in the morning. Run/swim/run today if it isn't storming after work. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() SO I have completed my first tri=) I had 2 goals.. 1) no stopping during run/bike 2) under 2hrs. I accomplished both so my first tri was very good. I have some friends trying to persuade me to do others. I am considering it but also a little burnt from 4 months of intense training! I would do this tri again next year for sure but am toying with just going back to weights and swim/bike/run for cardio enjoyment. |

I have enjoyed going back the gym for strength training... all triathletes should strength train anyway, it's just a big time commitment with everything else. I tend to skip the bike workouts and spin. Your strength obviously helped you!! |
