SO you have better winters AND better summers? Sigh.

We got nothin'.

I think an outdoor pool and actual oxygen to breathe would definitely qualify as somthun'.

I was actually thinking about that today during a fast swim while suffocating.

Day off for drive up to Clermont (2 hours? longer than it will take me to finish race!). Going to pack my bag, head to store for bagels and take kids to a different beach down the road- a little bit more wild in nature- on the channel between two islands that leads from bay to gulf- hopefully we will see dolphins since it's early! Will stay there for about 2 hours- till 10, and then come back here to head up to RaceTown!

I feel pretty good- nervous, NO DOUBT. But I keep telling myself that the physical part of this race is already in the bank, so all that's left is my mental game, and if I let that go, I'm self-sabotaging. The plan is for my husband, niece and 6 yo to stay here- my parents and my 9 yo are coming with- my son wanted to do the Kids Tri, and I will let him, but I'm not paying $40 till he sees the lake. I have a feeling that a boy who has grown up in crystal clear lakes doesn't have the mental game at age 9 to swim in a brown one. But he may surprise me, I guess. He can decide.

I will likely check back on BT before I go, but thanks to EVERYONE for all of your assistance, words of encouragement and technical advice. You guys are GREAT.  I bet there's never been anyone to post so much bellyaching over such a short race! I will be back tomorrow after the race, which is at 7:30- and of course I will log on to post all the details!

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I won.

There were no age groups. I was 1st place overall among the women. I am still wondering if there was not some mistake?? 67 women. 141 total racers; 29 men beat me, so I guess I was 30th overall.

I'm still in shock.

Will post times and splits later- race time was 53:27.

Did I mention I'm still in shock? And that the lake was total darkness like being blind, or perhaps someone trying to drown you, when you put your face under? I have a lot of work to do on a longer open water swim.  But I bought a wetsuit at the expo afterwards and will be ready to go as soon as the ice melts off my lake. Okay, maybe not that quick.  That sounds really cold.

Congrats on both counts, the wetsuit and the win!!!

53 and change awesome.  I was going to ask you before the race if you have any time goals, but I always read you shouldn't really set a goal for your first race/first time at a new distance (I have never listened to that to my detriment emotionally sometimes)

Once again, great job.  Looking forward to the race report.  So much for those speedsters huh, it must have been you!

Tell me about it! I was all excited on my way to Belle Isle to ride, it felt so easy and I thought the trainer workouts are awesome. Then I found out that I had a huge tailwind. It was like going uphill all the way the home.

Your going to beat my booty when I come to LP for the race.

I’ve not been very active here lately, due to heavy workload. But I almost managed to keep up with the training.

This weekend I did my first duathlon race, nice experience. I came in as 9th in my age group. Race report will come later today. I had hoped for having my new tri bike for this race, but that did not come true. So I dusted off the good old Trek Hilo and did my last race on it. It worked perfect as always. Later in the day, someone phoned me about the Trek and 2 hours later it was sold. Good bye Trek.

Still no sign of my Argon18 E-112, can’t even get a date when to expect it. So I have no other alternative than to get something else. I’ve chosen the Cervelo P2C. That is in stock in Denmark and should arrive late this week.

Last Tuesday the managing director called me to his office. When I arrived the director of the board was also present. “Close the door behind you” I was told. Hmm – what was this? “You are going to Florida and do a triathlon” - a long break – “we would like to sponsor you” I was a bit shocked, even though it was April 1st, it was no joke. And it was not a t-shirt and a cap they offered. “What about a set of race wheels?” Well, I could use a set of Zipp 404 and a Zipp 900 disc “Then go buy them and send the bill to us”. A good day at work just got a lot better. I can’t wait to get all the parts and assembly the new bike.

Next weekend we are having a training weekend in the local tri club. So lots of hours from Friday to Sunday.

Hans

Holy Cow!!!!!

That is freakin AWESOME...are you sure they don't want to sponsor a team...hand picked by you.

I would be walking on air. CONGRATS....btw...no pressure to get in your training or anything....better hit the pool now.   Think you can get out early to work it all in?

Hans, are there any openings where you work for underfunded triathletes who need some wheels? My skill set includes drinking diet coke, running really far, and spending too much time online. Very martketable.

Last night I went to Belle Isle to ride, drove down because there is a huge watermain break on the route I would ride and the road is closed. I'm not sure how else to get there on a bike. Anyway, I parked next to this very serious looking cyclist. Nice bike, nice gear, thick thighs, you know. I decide I don't want to embarrass myself next to this guy so I hurried up and took off before he had his bike ready. He caught me at the end of the first loop (5.4miles) and took off. I figured if I could still see him that I was doing well. On the windy back stretch I found that I didnt' lose any ground and then he let me catch him. Then he let me get ahead once we had the wind at our backs and drafted (of course, on the easiest part for me to pull). Again, I was feeling just plain silly and pedaled my booty off to make sure he didnt think I was a wuss, big gears, wind at my back and heart rate through the roof!! Then he pulled again into the wind. On the fourth lap I lost him, turns out he broke a spoke.

It also turns out that he's damn near pro, just moved back to the big D after being in NC for 24 years (I thought he only looked 25 to start with, as Jake would say, "black don't crack, baby"), is a fed with the CDC and non-chalantly mentions that he doesn't really like running and as such has only done two triathlons. He won both of them. Yeah. I feel like a complete turd riding with this guy.

That he is cute and funny and smart and evidently in his 40s but looks 20 made me feel even more like a turd.

Why didnt' I wear a cute cycling outfit instead of unmatched stuff that I picked up off the floor?

This will not do! The bottom of the page?

I didn't have much of a workout today-- but did bike some and took a long walk.  Off to watch the Devil Rays home opener with my baseball rabid children- (who are Yankees fans, but they will watch ANYTHING- even old, taped games...)

Tomorrow, I want to do another 33 mile ride and swim, and then hopefully do one last warm weather SBR on Thursday. On Friday, we head home-- to a Saturday forecast of 46 degrees and rain.  Glorious.

And INDEED, I was also the "winner" of the outlets....they have added a JCrew since my last visit, and also hit the Banana heavy.  A quick dip into Ann Taylor. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh- I love those outlets.

I SHALL do something tonight!  (Even if it's that dratted drainer ride w/ the coach).  Sorry about falling off for a couple of days -- something about taxes, and messy houses, and parent-teacher conferences and craziness at work all hitting at the same time.  And it wasn't even a full moon.

Bump   That's all I can give right now.  Slacker mentor   Sorry!  Guess it's a busy time right now for most of us.  All that vacation is totally undone!  Quinn and I have our weekly Biggest Loser date so I will *try* to sneak on later, but she usually doesn't like when I do that.  Plus, I think I should fold the 5 loads of laundry that are on the living room couch!  Hope everyone is keeping up!!!!

Ya mean I'm not the only one who does that with the laundry?????  Actually tonight I'm doing ok on that front -- only one load backed up to be folded and one in the dryer.  (But the baskets are full -- but that's partially because I realized over the weekend that all of those clothes that we almost never wear have become disgustingly dusty and musty.  So I pulled EVERYTHING out of my closet and tossed the washables into the hamper.  Still trying to get through all of them -- although some will not make it back into my closet because the "fashion maven"  -- the 10 year old who loves to watch "What Not To Wear" will tell me to send it to Goodwill.  And I shall follow her advice because she actually does have a pretty good sense of fashion -- certainly better than mine  Wink

Sure Kim, in fact we have several openings here at our company. Do you know about hardware or software? Then I have a job for you. We offer a high salary, 6 weeks vacation, 37 hours a week, social security and sponsorship regardless of previous results. But I must also inform you about 66% tax, 25% VAT, 180% tax on cars (and 25% VAT on top), fuel costs 8$/gal and so on.

Right now I struggle to find the wheels; almost every shop is sold out on Zipp wheels. But I’ve located a set and a disc, should be here shortly, along with the new frame. Gears, bar and other hardware arrived today.

And I finally finished the race report for the weekend’s duathlon

A bump is all I have today... sorry...

Hanns, how'd I miss the race?  You must be secretive about it and not tell the world two weeks ahead of time and every day from then on that your racing. LOL....I wonder who would be a inspire like that? heh!

BTW...did I tell you I'm racing this weekend?    Actually, racing is too big a word.  The word is Control, Pace and Patience.  I'm going to try and stay in Z2 for the whole race till the last 5 miles of the run.  This actually might just kill me to see people passing me in droves. Grrr.  But it's for the best and I NEED to do this.
