I dont want to scrap the challenge. it's great motivation to at least keep moving. I think we all know when our body is telling us to stop. I think we should just make it known that it's okay to cut back or whatever needs to be done in order to stay healthy

Jay- Thank you so much for the feedback. Im actually looking to go do a sports medicine doc/pt to get some training advice on how to keep myself in top health so i can perform properly.

Tell your little guy to feel better!

I have all the motivation I need, 108 days until 1/2IMFL and 213 days until IMKY. Just hope I do not get sick as I cannot afford to miss any workouts. Hope everyone keeps on track since it seems like my gym is starting to slow down and only the most dedicated will stay with it. GOOD luck!!!!!!

I agree with the everyone else. I love the challenge! It makes me get up and go when I just want to be lazy. I say let's keep it up and just back off when we need to.

Crap week as far as exercise or life?

Hope you make it home soon. I used to business travel for years... a matter of fact I still blame the extra pounds I carry on that!

well, I did get a swim in this evening. 30 minutes, a pretty decent swim. I even considered running afterwords, however if I did there is no way I would have slept tonight, I would have been to wound up. I will try to get a run in early in the A.M. before my wife goes to work. Maybe another swim tomorrow eve, and then a bike ride on Saturday Morning. Then I will start over again Sunday.

Found a positive note, the danskin tri finally has some information up about registration. I don't see a way to register yet but that must be coming soon. What's even better is the 2 mile run at the end is through magic kingdom and under the castle...dream come true! Woohoo! Yeah, I'm a nerd. :-) http://www.danskin.com/entryinfo.html

Sorry to hear about you guys with the overuse injuries, fatigue, etc. I think it is just part of what we are learning about managing our training. I still haven't gone back to the pool after 3 weeks with the shoulder pain, after using paddles. I did get acupuncture and massage for it and both have helped.

I am getting ready for my 5K in 10 days. Check this out: Monday I ran my route in 38 min, about 3 miles. Today I ran the same route in 30 min! I only walked for 1 minute of the run. I am finally out of zone 2 base building and doing some tempo runs between 70-95%. Well, looks like I won't finish last!

Weight? Well, I'd like to lose about 10 lbs, but honestly...all this exercise makes me very hungry. I am doing the best I can to eat healthy...but sometimes I need the sweet carbs or I go crazy. Just the way I am wired.

I agree with everyone that has commented on the challenge. I don't think I would have got back to training as soon as I was feeling better if I hadn't felt accountable to the group.

I was looking at the DANSKIN site this afternoon too, Heather! I won't be in Florida (wow run under the castle!) but I'm excited to sign up for the Austin race.  It was so great last year.

I had a great swim after work.  I still have a long way to go and my breathing is really better to the right instead of left.  I think the zoomers are really helping me learn how to kick better.  I know I'm not doing the drills very well but I think I'm starting to feel when I'm doing things right.

 Have a great workout tomorrow-

Les

Maybe it's a phase we're going through, but I'm feeling a little icky too. Just couldn't get into my bike tonight. I did it, but begrudgingly. Then I did a little 8 minute run just to test my legs out for that eventual full brick transition. That wasn't as bad as I thought.

My shoulder has prevented me from swimming though. I'm going to try and do some drills. I'm glad you like the zoomers, Les. And, Heather, thanks for the heads up about Danskin. I'm not sure if I'll make it to Fl for this one after all.

I wanted to throw out a question for you runners. Anyone heard of the Pose method of running or Chi Running? My PT (a triahlete) gave me some info on Pose and I checked out the website. Anyone familar with this or have tried this method? It's supposed to make for easier and less injury laden runs.

Tomorrow's another day and I plan to get some swimming and perhaps strength training in -- plus these shoulder exercises using the band.
Take it easy -- ya'll.

I made it out for a 30 minute run this morning before my wife went to work. I am gonna try to hit the pool again this evening. If i can do that and get a 45 minuter bike ride tomorrow, or maybe a brick then I won't consider this week a total loss.

As far as the "Pose Running" I have heard a little about it, but not enough to speak on it.

I really... really want to sign up for a Danskin tri... that is what got me started to begin. My first choice in FL... but it is on Mother's day weekend an it would cost me a small fortune for all of us to attend. Then there is the CA one... I can drive and tag that on to a weekend beach trip... which makes more sense. Who is doing Danskin and which ones?

Elizabeth-

I'd love to do the Florida Danskin too...Just not possible at this point in my life.  I did the Austin Danskin last year and it was great.  I'll do it again this year on June 8-9. Look at my photo album.  There are a bunch of pictures from last year's race.  Come on down to Texas!

Here is the link to the Danskin tri site:

http://www.danskin.com/triathlon.html

Registration is supposed to open the first week in February (next week maybe?) they are going to send out an email to past participants before registration is advertised to the public. I'll pass the registration opening dates as soon as I get the email.

Alan:

I've been meaning to ask you how your swimming has improved since doing the TI drills.  In particular, have you begun to notice any improvement with not running out of breath so soon?

Sometimes I think I'm not getting any better but considering when I started I was winded after 25...this morning I did 300 with minimal rest between lengths and was doing well.  Right now I haven't been able to put the pieces together because I try to just do straight freestyle and still get quick winded....takes time I guess.  I go for my lessons in 10 days so some underwater video should help show me what I'm doing.  Just found out they just scheduled a TI clinic the same weekend so I'm going to take a lesson or two and the clinic to hopefully make some changes!

You did 300 with minimal rest?!  That IS inspiring and gives me hope!  You really have come a long way since the beginning of this month!

You will be so blessed to go to the TI clinic for sure.  Be sure to let us know how that goes.

Just to be clear...that was 300  VERY slowly...doing TI drills...but at least if nothing else during my first triathlon i can just chug along doing those and finish!

I love the TI way of swimming. I started doing the drills the beginning of April and I finally felt like I was doing a somewhat of effective swimming today. Did 300 yrds of drills and 100 yrds at the end of "swimming." I would definitly recommend the TI drills. I couldn't do anything close to lap swimming a month ago. Good luck!

Still...I remember you saying that even when you went ultra slow you still had difficulty.  It's undeniably a step up.

There is no doubt they are fantastic drills and the whole methodology makes total sense why I was so tired at the end of a length...I thought swimming was kicking as hard as I could and reaching and grasping the water...no body rotation, and all arms and legs.  I think it will get better as I get through the next couple drills.

Does anyone else have the problem of sinking when they start that "zipperskate" (I think it's called) ... as soon as my elbow gets up there i sink!

Hi Elizabeth -- I live in Southern California and have family in Florida, so I was considering doing the Florida and seeing my family, but again it is Mother's Day and my family wouldn't be able to come, which kind of defeats the point of Mother's Day, I think. So, I'd like to do the California one. I'm not sure where exactly it's going to be, but probably somewhere in the Long Beach area.

As far as the weight loss issue from previous discussions, I lost 30 pounds 7 years ago and have kept it off, which has always been my issue. I've always been able to lose it's the keeping it off. I joined Weight Watchers and that's how I got rid of it. I still follow the program and it's a healthy way to eat and you eat real food and just manage portions and watch the high fat, high sugar stuff. Plus, I'm a vegetarian (but I eat some fish), so I cut back on full fat cheese and my bean burritos with guacamole (lots of good Mexican food here). You can have anything and everything, just can't have it all at the same time.

BTW-- Did some of those TI drills today and practiced my flip turns since I still can't do freestyle yet without shoulder pain. At least I got in the water. Maybe do some strength stuff tonight.
Happy Weekend~~Lynn
