Ever have a giggle/wtf moment with a total stranger?

After yoga yesterday, I was the last one out as I was checking with DH whether he was coming in for a lunch session.  As I'm walking out the class door, one of the yoga women comes in looking all worried. She asks if I saw anyone leave with a purse. No, I hadn't...but there were only six of us in class. She says she tucked it away and wouldn't have been easy to grab, but just can't find it. Says she'll just check with the desk. I haven't said much except I hadn't seen anyone leave with a purse. Most of this two minutes has been her wringing her hands and wondering what on earth could have happened. As she turns towards the door I ask, "Is the purse your looking for like the one on your shoulder?" She looks down does an OMG face and we both crack up.

I was still giggling when I told DH about it last night. Just nice to know I'm not the only crazy one sometimes.

OK, I freakin do stuff like this more than I want to admit, and I really like hearing about other people doin it. Thank you for that:)

It's in the text editing box when you write a post.  3 over from bold silly

fuckyou ;)

Oh I'm sorry, I just forgot about this new leaf! I'll remember to hold your hand and treat you like a lady next time Smile

I'm extending my pinky as I drink my whiskey in your honor.

Now I'm just jealous. I'm still at work.

How do you drink your whiskey?

I'm actually not drinking whiskey yet.  i was just trying to think of something lady-likish.

I still have a medium long run to do today. Ahem;)

Depends on the whiskey, the weather and my mood.  Sometimes I like it neat (by a camp fire when it's cold, for example), but usually on the rocks (makin dinner on a Tuesday).

What kinda whiskey?

I have yet to meet a whiskey that I don't like.  I also like whisky.  I am seriously entertaining going to Whiskey Fest in Chicago in April.

My favorite everyday whiskey is Jack Daniels.  "Real" whiskey drinkers scoff at that, and I just kinda embrace it :)  I try not to get highfalutin about stuff unless I have to.  If I never develop a requirement for really expensive whiskey, that would be OK.  Wine is almost ruined for me because of how I grew up;) If I want something less sweet I'll do Maker's Mark or Wild Turkey, both of which are good to go for me.

Now, that being said, I have taken a shine to Woodford Reserve, which really isn't that spendy.  It's my current special whiskey (bottle on the far left).  The pic was taken at my parents when I got snowed in this winter (by myself--woot!)  and decided to have a one woman whiskey sampler kinda evening.  Good times.

Well, now yer confuddlin' me.  Ya got some scotches in there with yer bourbons and such.  I'm a scotch gal myself.  Single malt preferably.  I don't know a lot about 'em, ceptin that I like em.

All I know is that any one of those + me = utter chaos. You see what happens in my RRs and whatnot when I'm behaving myself and getting ready for a race. Eeks.

LOL. And this is supposed to deter me?  Epic fail.

Gotta tell you, the Jack statement earlier made me smile. I played in a cover band for too long to drink high end stuff. Jack and Coke or beer if the patrons were buying. Although now it is Jack and Diet. Currently I am enjoying a Bud Light Lime, but this whole discussion is pushing me in another direction.

And don't anyone shoot me about the BL. I rode home in 95ish weather. Sunny and sweaty means light and refreshing at the end.

Just because I find this relevant to this very moment, I have an owl on my desk ... like the kind meant to keep birds away from gardens or whatever? Anyway I have one on my desk and around it's neck is a "finisher's medal" for a race that I did not compete in. Hows that for random? Of course there is a story behind, it but those are the facts.

PS keep your eyes out for a suspicious package. I mean seriously, I am way into recycling and therefore shipping packaging and wrapping gets very interesting.

Couple questions:

  1. What is the largest front crank I can go to?
  2. Smallest rear?  (I really want a bigger front crank for those screaming descents, but don't want to screw up my paces on the flats.  At the same time - I feel I will develop into a faster rider on the flats if I start working with a larger chain ring on the front).
  3. What would you recommend for routes with a lot tougher climbing? Here's a link to one of my routes around here. 56 miles  This is a pretty common amount of climbing for me - no matter what loop I do around here.  I handle these hills fine with my current setup (I didn't used to be able to say that).  This climb - almost killed me.  It is short - but there are segments between 10% and 15%.  It hurt - and my cadence dropped into the low 60's for this Beast.

I'm sure it's in there - but just for good measure...

It's the gap between the big and small ring that is likely to limit you, at 16T. So with a 39 small, that would be a 55 big ring. That would take you from 52 mph to 53.9. You're not actually going to feel that difference. I'd rather keep it lower so that I wasn't shifting between the two rings so much. Thinking you can get more out of learning to spin better for going really fast.  I know you spin high on normal pacing (at or just over 100?), but how much higher can you go (in control)? I can usually go something like 140 to a bit over 150 (I run out of hill before going higher), and have gone over 190 before. I know it sounds fun, but you'd really be sacrificing some in a more usable range. And I know the feeling, but there is no reason a bigger ring would make you faster on the flats.

Don't go smaller than 11 for the rear cog. There are 10's available, but not all derailleurs can handle them and with their small size they get less efficient. Enough that it can become noticeable.

With hills like that around, I'd be looking at another gear or two. I normally use an 11-23 in back because there isn't anything really substantial in the near area. I have an 11-28 that I'll switch in for the big rides I post. Those I have to drive to.

I plan to use an 11-30 cassette with a 50/34 on the front.  I currently weight  ~180 lbs.  Some of these hills in Middle and East Tennessee can be quite steep.    While this weight is a disadvantage going up hills I scream down hills without having to peddle.  The ups and downs average out to zero but since it takes longer to go up the hill than it does down the hill  it sure doesn't feel that way....   Tongue out
