Veteran 282 | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George : Official Thread ...okay, so I'm officially nervous. Anyone else? Also, I'm heading down to SG from SLC Thursday AM. Should arrive around lunchtime. My plan is to rest mellow; hit up check in, athlete meeting that evening, maybe a SUPER light run, check out the water, etc. If anyone else is interested in working out the pre-race jitters flip me a PM and we can exchange cell phone #s. At the very least, would enjoy the company waiting in line(s), or sitting on the bus the morning of. Am I the only needy one in the bunch??? |

Champion 9600 Fountain Hills, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George : Official Thread Weather continues to look REALLY good. Sunny and warm all week which will help keep the swim nice and comfy and race day high in the mid 80's sounds ideal. Winds 5-15mph coming out of the south, which is very different from last year from what I was told. Seals the deal on my wheel choice. So a little push on the road up to Vejo and a bit of a headwind descending into town. Winds will likely be calm in the morning and build as the day wears on and heat builds, typical southwest weather. It bears repeating, the air will feel very dry to a lot of you. Take my advice and bring gum to chew on the bike to keep your mouth from feeling dry. |

Also just bought some chapstick which I never usually use. |

Never had a race I prepared for specifically for 6 months before. Its so easy just to jump into an Olympic race or marathon really with no forethought. The whole looong lead-up to this IM thing though... creating nervousness. I get "performance anxiety" which always creates a problem on the swim. Combating that by going out to Sand Hollow every day this week. Although on race morning... all bets off. I'm sure I'll be shaking a bit. SO... You're not alone there pardner. I'm hoping to get a strategy for the best line too. No buoys out there yet though. So can't quite tell. Went out again this morning, it was 64*. Feels great. Everyone out there was chatting about how great the water felt.
Met a guy at the lake who is 71 years old, does something like 4 Ironmans a year, drove out from Florida in his convertible Porsche, after picking up his girlfriend in Chicago. He has to beat the 3 other guys in his AG for a Kona spot... and I'm just hoping women still find a use for me by the time I get to 70. Geez.

X2. I swam at about 11 and it perfect, the water near glass. Did 45 in the wetsuit followed by 15 minutes 'naked.' |

My social awkwardness is bad enough that I might scoot in right at the end just before the mandatory meeting. My guess is that many of us are socially awkward, especially since a lot of us train alone and tend to forget other people exist. One of the best things at an Ironman is that you have something in common with everyon-you're here to do the race, you've likely had ups and downs in training, nervous etc. Come to sand hollow in the morning to swim, plenty of friendly folks out getting wet. |

It will also be the most crowded, so pick your poison based on your anticipated swim finish. If you aren't in the 1:05 ad under crowd that buoy line is likely going to be a cluster. |

I was out there about 11. Didn't see anyone "naked"... I'm sure I would have noticed that
You the one I zipped up? arms full of tats? If so... nice to meet you
And Bryan, I met another guy who's wanting to lock in an AG spot, from Austria. Runs tri camps in Kona. You got your work cut out for you if you're working in the 40's brackets dude. I keep seeing these super fast German speaking dudes.... Edited by gwbuild 2012-04-30 6:26 PM |

M40-44 is the biggest AG along with 35-39 and has 6 slots, which is a lot. Kona's not the issue, it's I want to continue to improve in the OA AG standings. I see a lot of fast fit dudes at every race, they don't scare me. They will wither like Edelweiss in the dry heat. |

I'm that tweener with a 1:10 time. Not fast enough and not slow enough, but I excel in wetsuit based hand to hand combat! |

Add to the challenge with a hangover. Make it a true life and death event. Bryan make them folkes cry washing away their dream of an age group finish. Crush it brother with your training, plan, and execution of it all. |

Got sunburn yesterday pretty good from an hour swim. Coming from swimming in the San Francisco bay where I smear channel grease on my face to cut the cold and even with grease I don't even get a hint of tan to see how different the sun rays are is interesting. |

Jut finished last meaningful run on my plan. A nice 8 miler with 85 degrees and 50% humidity. I've logged some nice warm/humid runs the last two weeks. Last meaningful ride is tomorrow. See you guys on Thursday. |

Hm. A "long catered training day". I like that! Every 10 miles on the bike and avery one mile on the run it's a buffet! Just got back from a ride with my race set up, Zipp 808 Front, 900 Disc Rear. My usually 30 mile route at an effortless 23mph, it's amazing how fast the bike moves with those wheels. |
