KidIcarus - 2010-03-03 2:40 PM sagacious tip of the day:

do NOT have boxes of Girl Scout cookies around when trying to lose weight.

=P

Dodged that one--for some reason my wife forgot to order the usual case of cookies

Thats o.k. I am sure she will get hit up at Walmart, Kmart or some other store!!!

did a biking LT test this morning, warm up for 8 min, increased intensitey for 10min, next 20 min all out & looked at my HR for last 20 min--170.  Being this high, isn't this a bad thing

A big part of your heart rate is how fast you recover--go for your max and then time you recovery time back to normal--usually a good gauge

Yesterday was a great training day.  Short sessions of high intensity on several pieces of equipment.  Testing the old body for the race coming up tomorrow.  No knee pain, no muscle pain, no exhausted feeling when I was done. If I feel this good in the morning I should have a great race.Foot in mouth  Feel like I'm finally getting the mojo back after way too long feeling sorry for myself about getting injured.

Weather is started to break for a few days this weekend 50's but I am working. Have not been working out as much as I would like or need to get ready for 1/2Iron in August but I'm 25 wks out and will start the 20wk BT 1/2Iron plan first week of April. Time management always my biggest enemy but thats life and I'm enjoying it.

Francesco and I met up along with some other BT folks to ride and run the season opener route.  We did 2 laps on the bike and  mav and I did 3mile run while Francesco and Rory took a shortcut.   What a great course.   Some hills, which I absolutely loved (others...not so much).  My time with the winter cycling plan and the trainer has definitley paid off.   Francesco did awesome! opting to use the first lap as a warm up and continued on with us crazies for another 10 miles.
Usually I feel kinda tired after an intense workout but I think this new diet has kicked in coz I'm feelin on top of the world!  Oh wait...maybe thats just the endorphins.  Either way, I am going to ride this wave to the end!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

my half marathon is tomorrow.  i feel like $$%%^&.  I was in D.C. at meetings from Wednesday to yesterday, and then had one of the worst nights on call in the past 24 months.  On my feet intubating, putting in central lines, etc, no breaks .. whine, whine ...

I went from the airport to call at hospital in intensive care nurseries for 17 hours. yes, you might ask why i scheduled things that way... call schedule is not set by me and i tried to trade call night with multiple colleagues to no avail.

so question, to anyone who is out there.  given that i have only 17 hours between now and the start of the half marathon, is there anything you would recommend that i do now to help me feel fresh at the start line.  i have already had a 3 hour nap ... and feel worse than i did when i first got home ... i am drinking lots of water ... but seriously is there anything else?
i trained reasonably well for the half so to feels so crappy today is a total bummer ... (or as my kids would say that totally sucks) ...

the simple things. Try to get as much sleep as you can and stay away from the caffine until morning. If you could go to sleep with a glass of wine, it might help. Good luck with the race

I haven't been updating the IM Challange. Had to go find the thread to figure out when we started (Jan 18th unless the start date changed further on down the in the thread).  I was surprised to find that i had finished my run and it seems like i'm only getting to a spin class once every two weeks! I used to got twice a week. Luckily the weather is getting nicer and i'll be able to get outside soon (maybe today). Bought some biking clothes at the LL Bean outlet yesterday. Got a nice IO wind jacket. The roads are still in bad shape, lots of sand and potholes. Recorded the XTerra from Hawaii yesterday, going to get some coffee and watch it now

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Springs coming !

Been out of the loop for a couple of days due to friends spending the weekend.  I really like company but it really makes a mess of my work outs.  Only managed to get out on my bike early Saturday--weather here was great for the weekend.  Way to much fun at night made for some really slack time during the day--guess what I am trying to say here is--I missed it ALL!
