Last training run before the race on sat.  Took it slow and easy- actually a little slower than I wanted to, it felt comfortable which is good I guess.  I am shooting for 9:30 pace if possible but would like to at least keep it under 10's  Most of my training runs have been successful but some have felt HORRIBLE and some great.  I hope saturday is a GREAT day.  According to my calculations I have run 481.5 miles in training since august, 26.2 should be the easy part right?  LOL

Best of luck, Paula! I'm sure it'll be a great day. You're ready. Just keep reminding yourself of all those miles you've put in.

Happy Weekend everyone!

Paula

Saturday will be a great day!  Make sure you stay off your feet today as much as you can and stay hydrated!  Enjoy the race!

Hit the pool this morning for the first time this year.  Surprised how few folks were swimming.  6 lanes and only 3 swimmers at any one time.  For a short while I was the only one in the pool.  Considering I haven't swam in 2 weeks due to the trip west, I was fairly happy with my swim.

What is every one else doing today?

Way to go, Ken! Glad you got some pool time today.

Let's see, I hit the lake for a brisk OWS this morning. There was nobody in the water except for me and a few ducks and geese... go figure. It was sunny out, but the water was ridiculously cold. Before I try that again, I'm going to pick up some gloves, socks, and a cap. Brrrrrrrr.

Tonight I ran 10 miles and I managed to slip under 1:30 (1:27:30). I'm stoked about that. On Tues night, I ran a 6:13 1600M time trial at my triathlon club track workout. That really surprised me too. I sure wish I could get my swim together... my first coaching session is scheduled for Monday --- woohoo!

Hope everybody is doing well!

Cool that you can get OWS experience in January! Nice!

Nice running too!

I finished boot camp this morning.  This is the second week back from Christmas vacation and I definitely notice the improvement in conditioning.

Also, I lost 4.2 pounds at my WW weigh in yesterday.  Now to keep it up.

AWESOME! Great job Vivian

Just thumbing through the livestrong website after I had entered my food intake on "my plate" and what did I happen across?

Iceman - you are on the cover of the weightloss new year's resolution section!!!!! Woot! You can check out his AMAZING story on

http://www.livestrong.com/blog/blog/scotts-success-story/

What else are you holding back from us? - we will find it, hehe!

Thanks I was unaware.  Thanks for the kind comments.   But I ate myself into that situation.  Getting pats on the back for doing what was the right thing to do is still a little odd for me if you know what I mean.  I do like to talk about it though because I know there are other people out there wondering if they can do it.  My boss said she read a story I wrote for Christmas Day on resolutions and a women's boot camp and signed up.  She told me this morning that she got into pants she hasn't worn in a year.   Make-up on, looking and feeling good.  That is what this is all about. Change. Make it happen.

I had a great week of workouts.  Bikes were hard ...mostly strength exercises on the bike (hill climbs) with VO2 mixed in.  Last night was tempo at 70% with VO2 for one minute 4 X each 20-min interval.  I swam with masters in the morning, second time this week.  I also ran 3X and did speed work.  Love the kettle bells.  Awesome workout and getting stronger and more flexible.  Upper and lower body benefits.  The Paleo diet is very liveable.  Feel strong for the workouts.  Sleeping well.  All good. Have a good weekend.  Today is rest day, movie night and dinner out.  Back to it tomorrow with a brick on the bike and a run.  First storm of the season hit yesterday.  Snow sucks.

Also, in addition to Paula doing the full marathon in Charleston, Wesley is doing the half!  Good luck to him as well!

I am supposed to do a 5K as part of the winter racing series in Rochester, but the weather is going to have to improve somewhat to get me interested in that!

Anyone else racing or doing anything fun this weekend?

I do know what you mean, when I signed up for my first race it asked if there was any significance to doing the race.  I indicated it was my first triathlon after losing the weight.  The race organization used it as part of their press releases promoting the event and a couple of the local papers picked it up and did an interview with me.  That was about 5 years ago and I still get comments on it today.  To me, telling the story to inspire others is the right reason to "brag" about what we do.  If it gets one person off the couch (in my case I know of several), then it is worth telling it.

Keep it up Scott, there is still work to do!

And yes, snow sucks!

Good luck Paula and Wesley!!!!!! Looking forward to hearing all about your races!

weigh in Friday: 4.2 lbs lost - down to 152 (12 lbs to go!)

Snow does suck - we have 200%+ snow of normal here. recieved 6 more inches yesterday.  There is no place to put the snow. when we shovel the drive we have to through the snow up to the top of the pile. (about 4ft high) sidestreets are down to 1 lane and the sidewalks have about 2 feet of packed snow on them. I haven't seen asphalt (much less grass) for over 2 months! supposed to clear up for the next week but temps will drop again to single digits. sunrise tomorrow: 10 am!

Yes, sorry Robin.,  So many to catch up on all at once.  My head hurts

On the weight loss thing, I got a call this afternoon from a guy who has a 48 inch waist who said he started riding a bike and working out after reading my stuff about going from 400 pounds to Ironman.  Two people in one day.  Not too shabby.

That LiveSTRONG story has been around awhile.  I updated with the IM in comments.

Going to write a book.  Cancer, weight loss, Ironman and a picture of my lovely self on the cover.  How the hell can I miss!

Want to shout out a Good Luck to Paula and Wesley on their races this weekend!

Congrats on your weight loss Vivian and Robin!   I've lost 2 pounds this week. That's a total of 10.4 lost among the ladies!  Has anyone else on a weight loss regime loose any weight? We should keep track of the weight lost among this mentor group. :-)

Hope everyone has some good workouts in store this weekend.  I'm doing Save the Red Rock Rally bike ride.  And hopefully, sign up for Triathlons!! LOL!!  Sunday - I'm going hiking with a good friend of mine who has Uterine Cancer. She had surgery a while ago, and now she's recovered from the surgery, and we're going hiking with our dogs. It's not really a hike  (2 mil of flat trail) per se, but it's a good start before we get to build up to bigger hikes.

Thanks for all the good luck wishes.  Long day at work so now I'm off to bed to get a little rest.  Not to nervous about tomorrow.  It's not really an "A" race for me.  It will actually be my first running race ever.  The only races I've done so far have been tri's.  Kind of looking at it like a training day for my HIM in May and IMFL.  My goal is to finish and not be completely spent.  I'll be satisfied with anything under 2:30.  I want to wish Paula a little extra good luck on the full.

Wow, all the great weight loss going on!  Congrats to you all!

Good luck today racers!

I am up extremely early this morning to get ready for my first CompuTrainer class. I have never done it before and a few of us have rented out a studio. we get it from 5:30-7:30am. I am looking forward to it.  It is really early but at least I know I don't have to get into some cold water!

It is official, I am signed up for IMFL for this year.  Beyond that I haven't signed up for much. I think once I have a plan I can better figure that out.

Happy Saturday everyone!
