Because I rode this weekend with a cycling jersey on and now have tan lines that would look rediculous in a tri top this weekend. Yes I'm that shallow. |

LOL I'm in the market for some new cycling shoes. I want them to be for triathlon. Anyone absolutely love their shoes? I have a pair of LG tri-lite carbon. Love um. Comfortable in bare feet, Stiff and Well ventilated on the top. It's the little things - like that extra bit a material on the Velcro flap the keeps the strap from slipping thru the loop so that you can have the shoes extra wide for easy entry/exit. Nice to have a big loop on the back to help pull heal on and makes a good attachment point for a rubber band to keep the shoes horizontal during the flying mount. They could be more aero but I traded less aero for more venting. Personal preference - I like to have dry feet when I start the run. |

I've also just discovered Pearl Izumi IsoTransition...never thought I'd stray from Kinvara, but these are like slippers! |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I think I have these too, comfortable and easy with bare feet. The extra material on the velcro is nice so strap will never come undone, or get caught in bike if you have shoes clipped in transition |

Veteran 268 Northern CT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Yes! I've been wearing Pearl Izumi shoes for about 3 years (all trainers). Saw the IsoTransition for a deal on Amazon awhile back and decided I'd try them out. Very comfortable...started breaking them in on the treadmill with speed work and have been using them on tempo runs...all without socks. Though I'll go with socks for my HIM in June.

Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED kidtri33 - 2012-04-24 11:05 AM On another note I am looking at signing up for my first olympic/international distance in early August( Either the Culpepper or Luray here in VA). It would give me 11 weeks for Culpepper and 13 for Luray after my sprint race on May 20th to prepare for it. Any suggestions on a program to get me there or if anyone has one they would like to share or develop for me? For my first triathlon, I used a BT plan (I used the HIM plan and did a sprint and 2 Olympics before the half). It worked well enough. I then played with on-line plans a bit for the next year or so and towards the end of my second season I got a coach. The first coach I had wasn't the best fit. He was very nice but he let me dictate way too much and I wasn't really committed to doing what he scheduled for me. After IMAZ in 2009 I started coaching myself again and hooked up with QT2 in the spring of 2010. At that point in time I was ready to work and make the commitment necessary to make the coaching relationship really work. If your goal is to finish the race with a smile, I think the BT plans are really good. If you are looking to be more competitive, I think you may need something more personalized. What are your goals for Culpepper and Luray? |

If you are looking to be more competitive, I think you may need something more personalized. What are your goals for Culpepper and Luray? Thanks Kelly, As for my goals I am naturally competitive but I have half a brain to know that for my first at each level I just need to finish and know I gave a decent effort. The way you said you approached is kinda of what my ultimate plan is. This first year is all about getting set up and enjoying the sport and learning. I would have signed up for and HIM in early fall but I am running my first Marathon in October so I figured that would be a little to much. However, I heard there is a new certified coach in this group though that could be a lot of help I also think if my sprint goes really well then I may want to step it up and be a little more aggressive for Luray or Culpepper. |

Thanks...he's asking $899 for it (it has SRAM Rival), so if it fits and looks like it's in good shape I may grab it. Hard to pass at that price. |

What are your goals for Culpepper and Luray? Last year was my first year doing triathlons, and I used the BT intermediate olympic plan. I think I missed 2 workouts on the entire plan. I went into it with a swimming background and absolutely no running experience whatsoever. It got me a sub-3:00 olympic (barely....2:58 ), and that had been my goal. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Those Kinvaras are cool. Are they minimalist shoes? I was up at 4:30 to get my bike TT in this morning, and then I followed it up with a 25:00 ZR/Z1 run. I haven't looked at the data yet, so I can't even judge how I performed, but I tried my best and that's all that matters. Anyway, I'm glad to be done with it! Have a great day, everyone. |

I don't know how that happened after all the time I've spent on my bike, but it's depressing. Deep breath. I just looked at the Febraury TT you did. The results are really comperable. A TT is just a test to see where you on, to help set/confirm HR zones and to figure out your weaknesses. All those things were accomplished this morning. Plus -- as an aside -- speed numbers on a trainers are notoriously inconsistent. Tiny changes in tire pressure and fly wheel application can make a huge difference in the speed number that comes out. Its really not a useful metric. |

Extreme Veteran 826 Bristow | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED And on a training note-It has been cold again in the morning so I hopped on the trainer this morning for a 30min Z1 ride. Very new experience and took me a bit to figure how to get up into Z1 by adjusting the resistance and my gears. Followed that up with a 20 min ZR run. Feeling pretty good especially since I helped out the neighbor as I came out to run. I heard a click, click, click as she was starting her car to get kids to daycare/school. Helped her jump it off and then did my run. Made the run pretty nice knowing I helped someone out this morning. Have a great day everyone! |
