YES! I think you totally did the right thing. You have plenty of time. Enjoy a break from structured training and come back to it refreshed and ready to whoop some tush.

I agree!  Totally right decision.  You and your coach will come back refocused and refreshed so you can really take on IMAZ training!  Enjoy the 2 month "break"!!    Funny to call it a break since I"m sure you'll still be training a bunch!

KTC - Me three agree!! As Deb and Kristen said, you'll come back mega refreshed and ready to rock! Enjoy the break and have some fun!

KC - Good luck at the chiro, hope he can sort out your IT band issues!

I had a great run today, just did a 5k PR again (God I love my Garmin!). It was pretty hot, around 32C (89.6F) with a slight breeze. I am trying to acclimatise myself for Shep 70.3 as I know I will be running in the heat of the day and it's around the same temp as we have here in Bendigo. I am finding it much easier going in the heat now that I am toning up and obviously fitter. I guess that means in winter I'll be freezing from a lack of body fat and will have to run faster to keep warm! LOL!

Anyway, off to the pool for a swim, tomorrow I might do just a short ride and another swim, then take it easy for Sunday. I'm hoping for another PR, I did last year in 1:50:00, so if I can get under 1:40:00 I'll be super happy, especially seeing it is the club championships.

Hope everyone has a happy day! Smile

Okay so I am going to throw it out there.

As you know I love my photography, but I also do a little bit of graphic design and I was wondering what you guys thought about me designing a Team RFP tshirt?

Speaking personally, I always just wear any old tshirt to a race, but I thought it would be cool if we had a Team RFP shirt to wear. So if you guys are interested I'll throw a couple of designs together till we can agree on one and then source out a cheap printer online.

What do you think?

Thanks Gals!  And yes you are right Kristen, I will still be working out alot during that time off.  But I will get to do what I want and don't have to worry about what is scheduled for the week.  I just felt weird asking to take a break from my coach as I want to make sure she will be there when I want to start back up.  I know these last few months with her pregnancy and now with the new baby she hasn't been 100% focus like she was so I thought it might give her a break as well.  I know that I am not the only athlete she is coaching.

Good Morning Team.

Lori - looks like you have a great schedule for the season. I am still thinking about a 70.3 but not sure which one yet. I want to make sure I set one up that works with my IM training.

AJ - nice job recognizing what may have caused the BONK - is your nutrition ok?

KTC - nothing wrong and nothing to worry about taking the break from the Coach - you are doing the right thing and you are an Ironman - you know what to do over the next couple of months to stay on track.

Simone - count me in for a shirt or 2 - great idea.

Run Bike today.

Nope. Haha. Been building building building and diet has stayed the same. Oops. Work has been pretty stressful as well so that hasn't helped. Mostly diet though. Not enough calories and probably short on protein. Adding food/calories way more difficult than one would think.

Feeling pretty spectacular today, at least physically (crushed a swim this am), I just have some adjustments to make and should be ready to get back at it Monday.

Sorry that I've been MIA. I've been pretty darn sick. A week and a half ago I just had a simple cold which was keeping me from training. Just as I started to feel better I developed the Coxsackie virus last Sunday. Basically, I have ulcers and blisters on the inside of my throat (gross, I know). It has completely wiped me out! Body aches, clogged ears, unable to swallow, congested nose and then Tuesday night I spread my virus from my throat to my left eye unintentionally. So now I have an infection in my eye. Since it is a virus the Dr hasn't been able to give me anything besides Vicodin to help me sleep (ha, ha). Sleep and food, I'm definitely not getting enough of. I've missed a total of 5 days of work and even more from training. Last Monday was my official training start day...guess that will be pushed back a bit.

Oh well. I'm in good spirits and not worried about the lack of training since I was doing pretty darn good before all of this hit but I do hope this virus moves on quickly. Hope everyone is doing well and I will try to catch up when I can!

Oh my, Jenn! I do hope you get to feeling better soon! At least this is happening early enough in your training that you should be fine. Glad to see you are in good spirits.

Simone, I would be interested in a shirt as well. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

KTC - awesome, I've connected with you now Smile

WTB - Ugh Jen you poor thing!! What an aweful thing to have, I hope you start to feel better soon, the rest from training will probably do you good anyway. Take care!!

Re the Tshirt design, I'll have a play over the next couple of days. I'm on taper now for Sunday's race so it will keep me busy to keep the nerves at bay!

I'll post the graphics up as I do them Smile

I've got to find a print on demand site with reasonable prices too, so if you know of any let me know. I'll try zazzle first but I think they are a little pricey.

I only use my kick to stabalize my body (to have my legs and azz stay as close to the top of the water as possible).  Otherwise my legs kick furiously and I get tired.  I just remember to keep looking straight down and twist my shoulders and relax the kick.  Anything else would be tough for me (I doo not chew gum in the pool either )  I will try the hip kicking tho.  Thx for the article

KC - Nice photo.  Once your done with IM training you need to polish up on your Photoshop skills haha.

Jen - That sounds absolutely terrible.  I would be freaking out if you can spread that virus so easily to other parts of you body.  Hope you get well soon.

Simone - Count me in for a t-shirt - great idea.  You can find me on Garmin connect at "tmoran80".

KTC - I think it is a good thing to probably take a break from the coach.  Take advantage of it! Do some research, try some different workouts, experiment with different techniques.  Never had a coach so I have always had to learn myself and there is plenty out there.  I was talking with someone the other day about the whole Chicago Marathon issue and realized that when i did my first Chicago in 1991 marathons and triathlon where just very main stream and there was not the internet or ANY information available.  I did my 18 mile training run with NO WATER or FOOD because I had no idea you might need that haha. Being able to sort throught he crap and find good info is a skill and never hurts to be good at.  You will be fine.

Speaking of the Chicago Marathon - I entered the lottery so we will see.  When I did it in 1991 there were under 8,000 people in the race!  Crazy how far the sport has come.

We had a big scare on Sunday as my 1 year old choked on a piece of popcorn that was left on the kitchen table.  Tried to stay calm and did everything I knew to do (flip him upside down, pat on back etc...) Took about 2-3 minutes before he was somewhat ok and we had to call the paramedics.  One of the scariest moments of my life!  He was fine but had burst capillary's all over his face for a few days.  Funny that a couple of the neighbors thought the ambulance was for me and I had finally pushed it too hard in the basement on the trainer or treadmillSurprised.
