MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Lyssa, I purchased a book to keep track of my workouts last December. I have never used it because I started logging everything here on BT. It was more fun doing it this way and joining a mentor group cause then you got a lot of inspiration from others. Logging in the book at home I was the only person who was going to see it. I think keeping track of it out here and knowing that someone else was going to be seeing it helped to keep me on track. I know your schedule is hectic with 3 little ones, you have done great so far, so I know you will achieve your goals. |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread thanks kendra! i bought the log book because there's i think (if you count bt) 4 sites i've logged on i just wanted there to be a place where EVERTHING was. i started out logging on seemomyrun.com which was good, but the logs were pretty simplistc, the i started logging on, um.....something else i don't remember, the i started logging on runnerswrold.com which was good, but then i got involved with the october challenge here, and started logging here. so each log says i've been running for about a month which is fine, it's not a big deal at all, i just thought it would be cool to have everything in one place, where i could hold it in my hand. that's all. i'm looking forward to the new mentor program too, when was that starting up, december? i've been kind of watching for it. my three little ones are why i can't always work out, BUT they're also why i want to work out so much. #1 because it's really my ONLY alone time. i'm not kidding, they sleep in my bed, well, just the baby does, but you get it. so i can't get away EVER. and #2 because i think having them see me be active, and take care of myself, and even compete, it's teaching them something important. i almost exploded with pride when my 7 year old did the kids triathlon. he got a medal for finishing, and he was ALMOST as proud of himself as i was of him anyway, i haven't run yet today, since dh is still out hiking, he'll be back around noon, then i'm out to run. i'm kind of getting nervous about the november challenge, i said 75 miles running. that's a lot. i'm getting nervous. as far as racing in oregon, i'm all for it. dh told me last night that there's lots of races in seaside. i don't know where else, i was going to look a little online today, but steve, pick a race, and we'll coordinate. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread I cant' actually pick a race right now as no one has posted the 08 races, but I was looking at the 07 races and have read that most folks carry over the same weekend to the following year as a tradation. I will, however look at my work callender on monday and see what looks good. Hopefully the sprints won't kill me to just finish. Now getting better times, thats where the work comes in. One of the one's I looked at averaged only 350 participants. Although going to races with thousands of folks would be exciting, hitting one where you are not going to get stampeeded may also be a neat thing to experience early on. Anyone else have a scale with bipolar disorder? Mine appears to be a bit moody about what numbers it gives me for my daily weight. At leasat it is not electonic. Electronic scales are evil, you step on it get a number step on it again and get another number that is off by 5 pounds. My fatometer is like that, it is electronic. It reads +/- 1-2 percent based on my level of body hydration. At least the thing is going down. My best guess is that I am approaching 12 percent body fat. I know what you mean about the kids in bed wit ya. I have had a baby in bed with my wife and I, on and off for 16 years. I use a pillow block to keep them from kicking me all night as they have all slept perpendicular to the length of the bed. Some nights I wake suddenly and catch a heal on its way down toward my face and block it, other times well... I am a deep sleeper. Well, the temperature has climped from 27 F to 31 so far today... maybe I will wait a few more hours and hope for at least above freezing before I go out biking. |

People say, "Hey! How come you're not working out?" And if I workout a lot, my calendar turns really pink. And people say, "Hey! Great job!" That's one of the reasons that I'm really liking these challenges. I can't just decide to sit on the couch instead of working out. |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread yeah! i get it totally. my scale bounces around about a 3 pound difference. i am almost positive it's not me especially since i get on it says one thing, i step off, and back on and boom, i've lost 3 pounds! step on again, and i've gained 5, over and over and over. i kind of stick wth a weekly average, but it's really annoying and frustrating. i've only had a baby in the bed for about 7 years, but sometimes i have this crazy fantasy about actually SLEEPING! i'd settle for being in bed with no kids, but hey, you gotta have a dream actually, the baby is in my bed, and my three year old sleeps on the floor right NEXT to the bed, someday i might get to be a grown up, and have a grown up persons bedroom, without a princess nightlight, and toys all over the floor, but being only 30, i don't hold out too much hope of that happening any time soon as far as racing, smaller is better in MY opinion, just because i'm easily intimidated, and a little terrified of getting killed in the water, but i could stretch my comfort level a bit. the race i did had i think 63 participants lol i'm all for an oregon race though, we go down there a couple times a year anyway, my evil mother in law lives there! > |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread The other thing I like about logging onto BT is that I can log more than one sport/exercise. I would imagine (not having checked them out) that the running sites might focus more on running and maybe not have the others, but I could be wrong. I was never a runner. I liked the swimming and biking so that is what pulled me towards TRI's. It has been a awesome experience and there are a lot of nice people out there on the site, which is really cool. I can see how the TAN thread can suck you into it's black hole. Luckily for me, usually it is the evening by the time I can spend any time on the site and they have all usually gone home for the day. I ahven't checked today to see how busy they are on a weekend. I stuck at work on a beautiful fall day. I won't mention the temperature. but it is way above freezing. |

Champion 23360 Taser-World | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Steve - Have you visited the CA state forum on BT? There's been some discussion about the 2008 schedule on my state forum. So once you know what weekends you have available, the people on your CA forum may be able to give you some info about events. Re the scale - mine's not bipolar. It is completely nonpolar. (ie: it doesn't move at all.) I have one of those electronic bodyfat measuring devices too. I have fun playing with it. For example, I'll use it first thing in the morning. Then I'll drink water, and use it again. And I'll laugh at how the numbers change. If I ever REALLY needed to get my bodyfat tested, I'd try to find someplace that uses volume displacement. (You get into a tub of water, and submerge yourself.) However, I don't see any need to do that, so instead, I just play games with my bodyfat tester. It keeps me amused. And it does give me a general idea of which direction my bodyfat is moving. |

Hehe, in the Nutritional Cafe forum, they're discussing how coffee creamer burns. I just found a utube video of it. (Would probably be a great topic for the COJ forum, too): http://digg.com/lbv.php?id=3787982&ord=1 I've never been, nor do I think I'll ever become, a runner. It's all about swimming. And now I'm liking the bike too.... The runners say they "got through the swim." Maybe someday, I'll say instead, "I survived the run." (I'll probably have walked it anyway.) Yep, TAN is a black hole. It's an amusing way to waste time though. LOL. Oh wait --> *snerk* As for the weather - It's 72 here (and sunny), and you're south of me. So I assume it's the same, if not warmer. |

I've spent the morning visiting some of the forums, and stirring up trouble. LOL OK, just started a COJ thread for the coffee creamer. Maybe it'll keep some people amused on Monday, while they're at work. (COJ tends to be busy during the week. It seems to be much quieter on weekends.) I really DO have work that I need to do. But I'm procrastinating very well right now. The Nov challenge is growing. 34 people have declared goals. About 10 more have popped in to say they're working on goals. So I guess we'll have teams again. I'll probably keep some members of existing teams together, but I'll stir it up a bit, so we get to meet new people too. (Guess you can think of it as cutting the Apple in half!) |

Dee I've tried a bunch of different socks. What I like to get now are the dry wick so that they pull the moisture away from my feet. My feet feel dry, but when i pull off the shoe and sock, they are wet. Otherwise, i have spent big buck and little bucks and haven't seen a big difference, but then again, until this month, i was walking/power walking and not running. Tennis too, i have found that I like the drywick. |

It's just.... um, a world unto itself. LOL Oh yeah, don't say LOL in TAN. That's the one rule they have. Say *snerk* instead. Everything else, I guess, is pretty much acceptable. Nope, I haven't figured out the teams yet. But some people have made requests, so they'll be together. There are also a few people doing their first challenge. For example, 6 or 7 of the Apples have signed up. So I may put 3 together on one team, and 4 together on a different team. So everyone would know a few people, but also meet others. Hm, actually.... I need to put the teams together this weekend. The challenge starts next Thursday! Ahhhh! |
