Elite 2634 in front of my computer duh! | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's Hey guys I hope everyone had a safe and fun thanksgiving. This week has been a disaster for me. on tuesday i pinched a nerve in my lower back at work and pretty much have been useless trying to run or even walk for the most part. Lots of icy hot and pain killers last few days i am starting to feel better so i am probably going to go on a run till it starts to hurt then back home. so wish me luck |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's Ha watch that back. Remember tri is a state of being, it is not this run, this day or this year it is this state of valueing being fit, which includes resting, jacuzzi time etc. For back injuries, even strains, I read that jogging in water say waiste deep or so takes the impact off and allows you to work your legs without impact to your spine. May look into not swiming, but trolling the shallows. Anyway I read this stuff. They even have motorized treadmills in the water that you run on that go like 8 mph or whatever. Crazy stuff. Anyway, put me in for another 5.3 miles and 30 min lifting. Dang I should have looked at my goal less than 1 mile to 100 %. Oh well no biggy I will overshoot it anyway (may have to jog 1 mile tomorrow just cuz though). So I'm 100 % bike, Lifting, 99% run and well we shal see what 2 turkey dinners with birthday cake and icecream mean for me tomrrow. Oh and btw, tomorrow I get to try one of those Swimex, swimspas with the motor that creates a current for you to swim against. Should be interseting. Whoda thought taking a pool for a testdrive would ever be a consideration. Anyway tired, off to bed. |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's thanks joe! so what's everyone doing this morning!? i finally get to go out and run today! hooray! i'm aiming for 6 miles or so this morning, and depending on how my day goes, i might throw in another 2 or 3 this afternoon. the flip side of that coin, is i might be able to spend at least 35 minutes on the bike, which would put me REAL close on THAT goal. so we'll see how the day pans out. is everyone still out of town for the weekend or what?? it's been SO quiet here lately! i'll post mileage after i get back, unless i don't get a chance, then i will update this evening. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's Hrm, usually I take Sundays off, but since I went on a field trip (200 miles) with the family yesterday, tried out the Swimex and went to the movie Baowulf... (em smirk) and then went shopping .. and watched a movie we bought with my wife at home, it was too late to reasoably work out. So since I was so close on my run I decided to just run back home from church this am. Granted the snow hasnt melted yet, and it was cold and I forgot my gloves because it was getting late before church and my hat, but I did make it home, chock up another 10.5 miles for me. So thats Biked 267 (119% Run 75 (116%) Lifted 5 hours (100%) Weight.... still need to relose that last pound after Thanksgiving. Oh well no food this week. Anyway the Swimex is pretty awsome. The family I visited to use it have had it for 11 years with no problems and extremely little maintanence (change the oil, clean the water filter annually). It was easy to pick a pace and then just swim forever. The current is as wide as the pool is and 18 inches thick / deep or so. It would be awsome to have one of those babies avaiable to use 24/7. You can of course set the temperature to the exact number you want, theirs was 85 F. You can also get a waterflow monitor so you know how many mph or meeters per hour or whatever you are swimming. I would recommend trying one just for the fun of it. Can check themout online and they will find one as close as they can to you for a testswim. <--- saving his pennies, and thinking about flourplans. |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's wish wish wish i could afford one!! we talked about it, for when we move. if we make enough profit on our house, we can build a little pool house, and put one of those in there, it would be totally sweet, but FIRST we have to get THIS house on the market. not easy to do with three maniacs, and a husband who's strong point isn't following through by sheer force of my WILL, we'll be moving soon, and then i'll get my swimspa how was the movie?? i have heard NOTHING, so i'm interested in your opinion |

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's Heya folks. Got back from North Carolina pretty early this morning. Had a nice Thanksgiving although we didn't have turkey (we went out to eat and when the choice includes prime rib...well I can get turkey at Boston Market any day!). I managed to get 2 run/walks in for a total of 4.5 miles. The route was way hillier than I'm used to plus it was all street/sidewalk so that kinda sucked. And I'd never run 2 days in a row before either. Needless to say my right knee, which kills if I use it to climb steps but has never bothered me running before, was a tad sore...nothing too painful (like a 3 out of 10 on the pain scale), but noticeable. And boy was it cold out too! Brrrrr. Got up at 5am this morning to drive back and made it in record time (that's what happens when you don't stop for 40 minutes to gorge at the Shoney's breakfast bar). So I was able to get a swim in too. Upped my intervals to 200 yards each and finished with a 250 yarder to get my mile in. Felt pretty good after the first interval. I've updated the spreadsheet. I'm at least at 75% for everything and if all goes as planned I'll just squeek in past 100% by the 30th and even get to have tomorrow off! I admit I didn't really read back the last few pages because I'm exhausted and about to crash in bed, so I hope everyone is doing well with the challenge and just in general. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's The movie Baowulf was fairly disappointing. It did manage to be cartoonish instead of real actors and I know I read the story a long time ago (25 years or so) but I must have missed alot of the plot or holywood did their usual. Like I don't remember that Baowulf faught Grendle in the great hall naked.... That did not seem at all necessary. Nor do I remember him stopping off during the swim portion of his triathlon to make it with a mermaid. I didn't read anything about a dragon and I didn't remember Grendel's (the ogre/troll thing) mother trouncing around naked all the time either and in human ish form (Tomb raider chick). It did manage to be somwhat haunting in its analysis of human nature. In a disturbing kind of way. But, perhaps accurately so given our divorce rate now a days. I have no idea why they had to make it in cartoon virsion, really killed the action sceenes and well everyone moving around like sims and all. I didn't even know that a version of Baowulf came out in 2005 and is on DVD now. It may well even be the same version, or they copyrighted it then and didn't even bother taking it to the theaters untill after the DVD sales didn't cut it. No idea, very disappoointing. I give it a C - /D+. Oh well gona stretch and turn in early temperature been all out of whack today. Oh and before you buy a swimspa thingy make very very sure that you actually swim in it. The endless pool one you have to find the current in the center and soetimes it is off axis a bit and you swim diagnally across the pool and the liner gets to be replaced fairly often yada yadda. Others have like 4 jacuzi jets pointed at your face and such. The swimex moves 4x the volume of water at 3x the depth of current and like i dont know 6 x the width of current. Defniately not a buy it over the internet kind of thing for that kind of $$$. Edited by Baowolf 2007-11-25 11:15 PM |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's of COURSE there has to be naked people all running around regardless of plot. it's hollywood. *annoying* anyway, i didn't run again this evening, too tired, and it gets dark so darn early. oh well, i have only about 12 miles left to run, so i'm not worried. i think two more bike sessions ought to knock that one out too, and i'll bike tomorrow (most likely) so i'm good. i'm leaving the spreadsheet as it is for now. i'm Christmas shopping tomorrow, so that'll be fun, i've been married for ten years, and i'm still trying to figure out this whole gift-to-spouse thing. hmmmmmmm, any thoughts?? |
