Yaaaay!!!  we'll be good little Twisnibbins, I promise!

tnickerson - 2007-11-14 10:22 AM My first swim in Pam's new plan for me ROCKED!!!!

Thanks Pam - you're a genius and I'm going to be a swimmer!!!

So, I'm curious...since Pam drafted up a plan for you...what'd ya do today?

10x50 done as 25 drill/25 EZ swim (Catch-up, butt-tap, right arm, left arm, switch kick and repeat) 5x50 - concentrate on form, not speed 200 EZ cool down - 1000 meters

Once Pam expained to me how to do the drills I was all set.  That's the biggest problem I have following swim plans.  I don't know understand the terms!

Hey T...I'm pretty familiar with some of the TI and BT swim drills (catch-up, fist, single arm, etc)...let me know if you need details...

Thanks Sal!  It makes a world of difference to me being able to ask questions.... MWAH!

Imagine people talking about the minute parts of air quality conformity and the various environazis out there that sue because they have political objections over the way we live (i.e, they want to jam us into Manhattans, take away our cars, tax the hell out of us and force us to stay out of the 'wilderness'). Its turning me Republican, I swear to God. Too many rules. Too many complications.

oh no.......................not the "R" word - LOL

no offense to any republicans in the crowd ;-)

A MORNING visit from Mila...odd...you don't usually check in until late at night...

Bored...or just miss us...

You seriously don't know by now that I am unpredictable like that?

Yes, delayed response, but it's your fault, slave driver Sal.

Oooohh Mila, if you're calling Sal a slave driver, that must mean you ran and swam today!!!!!

He's actually a moderate Democrat, but the only way Arnold could have gotten elected outside the Democratic machine in California, which is uber-liberal by any standard, was to be a 'liberal Republican'.

Actually, he and Rudy aren't all that far apart on their political views. Think of it as NYC politics but with restrained taxation on business.

Yeah, but do you get to have "pray for rain days"?  If only we could have done a statewide rain dance instead...

On the one hand,  I'm feeling really tired and wondering if my body is telling me to rest

On the other hand, I skipped the last two days......................

I taught a class, swam, rode my pretty bike and I am running later.  I like the long T2  though.  It's working well for me.

Edited because I am so tired I was redundant...

Yes. No foot issues?

I wore the new Mizunos to work and my foot feels MUCH better.

D001 - 2007-11-14 1:13 PM Swim question! Since we talk about swimming a lot... My times are going in the wrong direction. I'm not sure why. So I'm wondering what happens to everyone else's times as they "get older." Many years ago, I swam in high school. Here are my approximate swim times: 500 yds = 7:05 100 yds = 1:10 Weight: 112 lbs Age: 17 Fast forward in time. Basically, I didn't swim much - off and on during the years only. Two years ago, I hopped into the pool (after not swimming for years), and got: 500 yds = 8:30 100 yds = unknown Weight: 118 lbs Age: 43 And here are my current times. I am really disappointed in how slow they've become: 500 yds = 9:15 (a little under 9 if I really push) 100 yds = 1:40 Weight: 121 lbs (should lose a few) Age: 45 (Yes, it amazes me too.) It annoys the heck out of me that my 500 is 45 seconds slower now than it was 2 years ago. I don't understand why there should be THAT much of a difference! Especially since I'm doing MORE swimming now than I was back then! (2+ seconds slower per 25 yds. It adds up after awhile!) What might be causing my slower times? a) Being out of shape, and not swimming as much/frequently as I used to. b) Normal aging process (lose muscle mass, gain fat, lose flexibility, etc) c) Poor technique (perhaps my stroke has changed) d) Something else. And if so, what? Thanks for any insights or suggestions!
My first thought is a loss of flexibility. That happens a lot with triathletes. Also, are you changing up your swim workouts? Pushing out of your comfort zone? Swimming with others? These can all help snap you out of your swim funk. I am stuck, myself. I swim 1:30/100. It doesn't matter if it's a 400, a 1500, or 1.2 miles. I swim the same pace no matter what. Something I must work on when I actually get back in the pool Cute kids, Scott. I am so depressed. I ran almost 3 miles at @10 min/mile pace. I'm ok with that. I'm not ok with how high my HR was. Crap! Mid 160's avg HR for 10 min miles? I feel like I've lost everything I worked so hard to gain this summer. It's back to square one. Again. My hip is tender, but I'm not limping. We'll see how it feels tomorrow. Gotta get back to work.

I think your hr will come down quickly once you start running again on a regular basis.  Your body will remember the fitness level.  Ease back into it.   No need to push too hard and reinjure.
