Hey, I just found this thread and am in need of a shove in the right direction for my core. This may just be a great place to start. May I play?

Absolutely! Start planking :-)

Started with 90 seconds for two days, followed with two 100 seconds. Was hoping to move to 110 seconds, but nasty stomach flu hit the house. Did not want to skip a day, so managed 60 seconds yesterday, thought I was gonna die.

Thankfully only a 24 hours bug, so back to 100 seconds today, and will move to 110 tomorrow.

You all look like your having a planking good time! Think I need this to be more accountable! My core is not very good, so this will hopefully help. I will start with 60secs and aim to keep the correct position. One a day, then increasing over afew weeks.Would love to be able to post my earnest, although somewhat meagre efforts.

Welcome! This thread is helpful in reminding me I can find one minute each day to help my core strength. Hope it helps you too.

First time after swimming, made it interesting with the shoulders shaking halfway through. Managed to kick it up to 110.

Nice! I can definitely tell the difference if I plank first thing in the morning before doing anything or after a run. Today I waited until after I had a cookout and just did one plank for a minute and called it good.

another plank-ee here....benn doing them as part of a core /yoga few days a week but daily seems like a mighty fine idea!

I am thinking time-in -plank vs multiple reps of say a 1 min duration plank is what I'll be aiming for- did I see 4 minutes here???

Welcome!

Yep, I've built up to 4 minutes but usually do a couple 60 or 90 second planks and just one 60 plank if I'm in a hurry.. I plan to build up to 10 minutes by the end of the year. That seems out of reach currently. We'll see what the year brings.

I've made it to 3:30, but am having trouble pushing past the 3:30 mark. I think I need do some ab work concurrently to push through the hump.

3:30 is awesome! I've been a slug lately and only doing a minute or a minute and a half lately.

I know someone that built up to 10 minutes and she said she didn't go long every day, only occasionally. I think multiple shorter planks each day will help me get strong enough to go long once a week or so. Of course that's easier said than done :-).

You are all major over-achievers!!!!!  I did one or two 2 min planks this week but I've been light because of the marathon and then sickness.  And then today, one of my rentals have just created a lot of work for me.  So I get the feeling that I'm going to only be doing 1 or 2 1-min plank for a while.  I'll try to up it later.  Good going everyone!

I'm still planking.  Many days I do several planks of 3 or 4 mins and then some days, like yesterday, I'm tired and a 1 min plank is all I'm so inclined to do.  I've got 41 min for this month and I think I had around 51 min for Jan.  I would like to have 2 hours of planks in the bank by the end of Feb but I may be a little short.

I really admire all of you who keep moving up your plank time.  I hit 3 min one day and I decided that I couldn't enjoy my life if that prospect was in front of me every day.

I'm still doing a plank a day but usually only one plank for one minute. I'm on track to have half the planking minutes in February than I did in January, but I'm fine with it. Hectic travel schedule and lower back pain for the last two weeks didn't end the streak, so I'm happy about that. :-)

Mike, hope your back feels better.

Three days ago I developed a major pain in my neck (named it kelly after my work pain in the neck) and so I'm not doing elbow or side planks until I have this under control.  I'm still able to do hand planks or reverse planks so I'm keeping up with the challenge.  I should have 2 hours of plank minutes in the next day or two.  WooHoo!
