Barring significant life events or brain injury, there are a number of "temperamental" traits that are well known to be stable. Approach or avoidance of novelty, risk seeking, adaptability, activity levels, etc, have all been well described and seen as stable. There may be some aspects that are culturally influenced, but we all have a basic style of engaging the world.
