15 , Oregon | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread Some notes for those new to this venue: 1. There is a bit of rain forecast from now thru Friday night. If it rains a lot, the transition area will be wet. It is mostly grass, with a cross of a dirt/sand road in the park. If it rains a real lot, there could be standing water in the grass area. Good way to clog up your bike shoe cleats if you transition out with them on your feet. 2. At the start of the bike, when you turn onto Rte. 11 and go up the hill. Avoid hugging the guardrail, the new paving has created quite a drop for the road water drains. There are a handful of them and if you ride over them, you could very well wreck your bike and your race. 3. When walking to the swim start, avoid walking amongst the picnice tables to your right, off of the beach. There are many, many short tree stumps and roots that are waiting to break your big toe. Watch where you walk over there. I hit most of them every time I swim. :-) 4. If the front that comes thru is strong enough Friday night, there could be a good NW wind which is the prevailing across the Broads of the Lake. This will give us whitecaps. But, the wind will be at your back once you make the turn to the right, out of the start. 5. If you are not doing anything else Saturday night, there is a pasta dinner benefit at the Elks in Gilford to raise funds for a local girl who lost her glass eye while swimming. The family's dad is a disabled veteran and they are having a tough time. The Laconia PD is putting this on. COme one , come all!
Have a great race, all. The Ironman Semi is on-site! |

21 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread Local weather just said storms will clear by early Sat am and Sunday will be sunny, low humidity and a high of 80. Sounds delightful! I am in awe of all of your training numbers! I am doing the swim leg of a relay team so I've been swimming a lot but maybe 40 miles total? I'm not sure since I quit keeping track the last month or two and began to swim just for time as constantly monitoring my laps was driving me crazy! Jogging and walking for crosstraining. I'm a single mom too, so training time is super short. Been OWS once a week with friends. I think that's the best thing I've done. We go about a mile but the running joke is I probably always do 1.2 since my sighting is horrific. One swim I ended up in a cove and another my friend thought I was going to crash into a docked boat. Can't wait for some feet to draft off of and those big orange buoys! LOL I hope everyone has a great race! |

NH | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread ok, I'll play too. Bike - 2361 Run - 942 Swim - oops. I'm naturally a fairly strong swimmer so I don't do a lot swim training. I'm only doing the bike leg of a relay at Timberman, though I'm doing the Rev3 Half in Maine next weekend. I'm also a Wish racer this year, in honor of my nephew who is aWish recipient and Ambassador. He has an inoperable brain tumor and will be volunteering at the race with his mom (my sister). I went to running 5 or 6 days a week, almost all easy pace, this year and have been totally healthy. And I now LOVE running! And my times have improved a lot. I now longer believe to get faster you have to run faster. Thanks for the tips. I love the Timberman bike course, even though it's rough in spots. Good luck everyone, stay healthy, and have a great race. |

It brings tears to my eyes to see them run on Saturday. My nephew is now 7 and doing well - he is cancer free and being monitored. I wish you guys the best. Hopefully I can find a way to run those kinds of numbers, I'm in for IMLP next year and better get serious!!! |

Extreme Veteran 490 Higganum, Connecticut | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread I talked my friend Joe in to this race last December. He learned to swim in January, did the Pat Griskus in June, and a week later the Litchfield Hills Olympic. He racked up 2100+ miles on the bike, 500 with his running, and now it boils down to the next 36 hours. I assume his fiancée will be glad come Tuesday - regardless its an achievement to go from zero to HIM when you're 42. Good luck Joe, I hope you enjoyed the journey. |

21 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread Congrats Todd! That is an amazing time on a difficult course! I only did the swim and it was my first time at that distance and only my 2nd tri with men. I learned so much today! Really happy that I held my line, wasn't intimidated and made it through in one piece. I was slower than I thought I'd be - only by a couple of minutes so not too bad though I'm slow to start with ( I really need a couple of lessons and learning how to sight would be really helpful. I lost so much time after the last turn for home. Swam totally off course. Couldn't see with the sun in my eyes.) I was surprised how choppy the water was along the back straightaway. I was being tossed around and up and down! Edited by swimhappy 2012-08-19 6:54 PM |

Extreme Veteran 490 Higganum, Connecticut | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread Yes, sighting into the sun on the back leg was tough, and the wave did pick up on the far corner. You did it, that the great accomLishment, and the fun of triathlon - we all set these milestone along the way and work toward them step by step. |

Sore, sore, sore!!! 5:13:30 for me. 34 minutes faster than last year. 34 minutes?! That is freaking awesome! A day like that makes the soreness a little more tolerable. Well done. The swim was definitely interesting. It felt like the buoys were set up in a "Z" pattern for the back half. Still my favorite swim by far though. I am extremely happy with how my day went. I was able to sneak in at 4:41 and left NOTHING on the course. I am pretty sure I was making some pretty ridiculous noises the last the 3 miles of the run! Feeling decent today, but questioning my sanity for having the Pumpkinman 1/2 in two weeks! I hope everyone else had a great day and awesome chatting with everyone leading in. Paul |

Regular 117 Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread It was a great day for a tri...the times below make me embarrassed to say that I was happy with my 6:21 time and that my goal is to get down to 5:45. You guys have some great times. Looked like a Mercedes SUV may have had some type of encounter with a cyclist. Anyone know anything about that? |

21 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread Yes, sort of. My friend was on the bike and saw it. Though she said it was an SUV hauling a trailer. This is second hand so of course, could be inaccurate, but she said it looked like the truck didn't have enough room to make the turn and I *think* she said it was one of the turns where there weren't cones, ie, not a seperate bike lane. I didn't do the bike, so I don't really know for sure. My other friend on the bike said that by the time she got there he was being loaded in the ambulance. |

Extreme Veteran 490 Higganum, Connecticut | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread I saw the EMS helping a guy sitting up in the field, looked like the vehicle was turning around after missing a turn farther back - scary! I was on that same section and two vintage race cars were passing each other and one car was coming at me head on over on my side of the road - it scared the crap out of me. Between that and a ton of bike riders on the run course - next year it's Quassy Rev3 for me. |

Member 132 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread First I saw the ambulance didn't know.what happened. Second had a good swim and great bike for me. The wheels came off on the run. Maybe I pushed too hard on the bike but being that it was my second him and I improved by an hour I am OK with a 630. Btw camping at gun stock was great however I would have liked it if I had the him on the beginning of vacation and not on the end |

Regular 70 Marlton, NJ | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread First off, congrats to all that participated, race day was awesome - the weather was great. I was in the M30-34 group and the swim out was a bit crowded, first buoy turn right was tough on sighting to the 2nd turn buoy due to the sun, followed the swimmers in front of me hoping they were going in the right direction other than that the swim was good. The bike wasn't too bad either, I drove the course the day before w/ a friend, so I knew what to expect somewhat w/ the hills. Some of the down hills were a bit sketchy due to the rough roads, but I was able to maneuver - topped out at about 46mph on one of the downhills. The run was great, a lot of good crowd support and the aid stations were well stacked w/ good options. This was my 2nd HIM, first was Eagleman last year where I finished 6:24. My goal was to beat that by an hour or at least somewhere close to 5:30, ended up finishing 5:35:21 - which I'm definitely happy with. My brother found this - I even made it on Linsey Corbin's race day vid http://youtu.be/J0sNDxhVu6s@2:40 - running in the blue tri top |

NH | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread Awesome day, and you guys rock. I did this as the bike leg of a relay team, and we won the relay division. Due to the wave assignments and fact that our swimmer went 27:30, I was able to get to the front of the age groupers about mile 12 and hang on before the fast kids like Paul caught me. It was a HUGE thrill to ride out in front and to be the first age groper back into transition. For a ham and egger like me, it was surreal to enter transition in a race this size with no bike there. Now it's my own half at Rev 3 Old Orchard Beach this weekend. |
