I'm out of the race Cry.  I had pneumonia about a month and a half ago and the doctor still hasn't given me the full go ahead to train.  I've been sick every other week and breathing can still be a little diffcult at times.  This really sucks because I was doing pretty good in my training up until I got sick.  For the past month no working out at all.  Oh well, I guess there is always next year.

Good luck to everyone out there. I'll be thinking about you guys come race day.

I got the stomach flu last weekend and have been out of training about 5 days, easing back in. Sticking with the BT 20 week plan and it feels good, lets hope it works. Was in Miami last week and got a chance to run in the nice FL weather. Logged about 25 miles over 5 days. You folks who get to train down there in the winter are spoiled!

All the pain and the clock change has taken a bit of toll, but that's how it goes.

I'm planing a 8 mile run for Sat, and trying to find 50 flattish miles to ride Sunday.

My plan is still a base building so I'm going to keep it in zone 2 as mush as possible.

At the halfway point(ish) Its can be hard to hold back, but I know any good plan is going to keep you from getting hurt or burnt at this point.

My advice, read you plan and understand where you started, where you are and your end game. I've learned the hard way, its no good to ramp up too quickly and have to drag you butt around for all of you other workouts because I rocked it too hard the day(s) before, its way to easy to get hurt or sick and ruin your progress.

At this point play it safe, train smart so you can race strong.

just my two cents.

Ok Gang,

We are 9 weeks (and a few days) away from the race... how is everyone's training coming along? It is time to SUAT, HTFU, JFT and start logging the specific training sessions!

Maybe as of next week we should post here our weekly progress to keep and eye on each other and keep the motivation flowing

I'm on track so far, but I was derailed this week because of a tummy bug.  I think it was dinner last Saturday night.  I lost ten pounds this week....  it could be just amping up the training weight loss or pooping out everything I eat for a week weight loss.

Either way, i"ll take it.

I still need a bike nutrition plan. So far gatorade with a scoop of protein, water, and a PBJ works.

sorry to hear that but if your health allows it, you don't have to wait till next year! there are many other HIM you could race later on the year. Hopefully you'll get back to normal soon

Just over two months to go, how's everyone doing?  I'm doing well but I have some patellar pain when I run.  Since my wife's a Doctor I've begun a more strinent stretching routine and anti-inflammitories.  I'm also going to sub in some more biking for the shorter runs.  Other than that i'm excited, how bout you?

Wow! Illness is the theme for this group this year! I just had to jump on the train and got MONO a month ago. That has really set me back! Dr. cleared me Monday to start training again so I have been easing back into it. I lost a lot, whether that is from the lingering effects of mono or de-training I don't know. My 35 mile bike today was so bad I was embarassed to log it. I think I'm still a go for racing but will just have to make it an easy effort.

we've had two rounds of the flu and a stomach virus in the last 3 weeks. Training is suffering, but I've still got time to recover.

Just for fun I thought I'd tell you what my wife has been telling me besides giving me her professional Doctor recommended treatments for my knee she says..."you've run with pain before and you'll run with pain again, HTFU and run"  That's why I love this woman.

Don't hate me because I'm doing fine.
Today in the Atlanta area it was just about 70, warmer in the sun.

Got my long run in yesterday and my long ride, 40 miles + 2 mile run brick.

This is my first HIM, so it's me aginst the clock and I've got a stretch goal I want to reach.

I feel for you all, I've been sick before and I know it's around every corner just tring to get me.

Rest up, don't beat youself up about missing some time, you never know, maybe your home for a reason.

We still got about 8 week, thats a long time.

Brian,
I'm glad someone else is doing O.K. I felt bad posting an update on this thread.
I too have been taking advantage of Atlanta's exceptional weather.
On the topic of this illness stuff, I have no idea how I've dodged the bullet all year (jinx!).
I'm a health care professional and see 40 different people per day. I should have caught something by now. My wife thinks its all the training keeping my body strong, but then I'll mention all of you here on BT (training way more than me) getting sick. Just rest up and get better. Hopefully ya'll come back feeling a bit stronger.

Training is going pretty well, although, kinda burning out. Planned to ride 50 yesterday and only did 36. Too bagged after my long run Saturday which also wasn't my best effort. Looking to push through it and have a better week this week.

Also, a comment on the run course as I have done the race twice. The first time I did the race in 2005, we were only on the "path" for a mile or so twice so I didn't think it was that bad. Last year, with the course being three laps, you had to endure the "path" three times. I would agree the path is easier on the legs, but I had to constantly watch my footing for ruts and holes. Anyway, what ever the run course, it will give us all something to talk about after the race!

Best of luck to all with their training.

ok sick people, stay AWAY from me! I won't comment on my training cuz I will probably risk getting it jinx by all of you LOL.

I hope you all get back on the horse and ready to post solid training over the next 9 weeks.

Just don't overdo it when you're feeling some 'burnout'. You were smart to limit that ride to 36 mi. I've learned to do what my body/heart are into doing, and I feel better afterward.
Good luck with this week.

I am training hard and heavy-ish. Finding some challenges in balancing training with work and family.
It is around the corner so I am just keeping the head down. I have a good coach (Jorge, I think you coach my coach Marvarnett) and he is keeping me plenty busy. Did a 40 minute nonstop swim yesterday as a test check and I am holding 1:30/100, so I hope that I can build on that from a bike and run perspective. Unfortunately, I am going to have to miss the Gaps this weekend (would be my first run at it) as I have family commitments.

As a side benefit, my wife has a business trip to Orlando in April so we will take the kids for a little fun and I have the green light to bike to course one morning. YEEHAW

same here, i'll be crammed into some hotel somewhere in Orlando Friday night then it's the wilderness lodge for me on Sat and Sun.  Stayed there last year for the Disney Oly and the kids loved it.  Easy walk to the event and start line too.

Got in my 55 mile ride today, glad to have that of my list of things to do.

Good ride, felt great the whole time, and got my negative splits.

Good luck to all,

Did my brick today.....3:45 bike (ended being 3:55)/ 30 min run.  Did the 70 mile loop I wanted but the first hour sucked!  I woke up and got going but my legs waited to show up for an hour.  Amazing what a bad hour will do to your final time/mph.  After that it was cool, except a bit of IT band tightness.  The run well, took it easy to keep the knee pain away.  It was a good day.

Hope everyone else had a good day and have a Happy Easter.
