Reminds me of an even more demented lyric that I don't expect anyone to get:

"Well the snot has caked against my pants,

It has turned into crystal

There's a bluebird sitting on the fence,

I think I'll take my pistol..."

From the least known, lost classic of the sixties...

Yes I’ve seen you sitting on the couch
I recognize your artillery
I have seen you many times before
Once when I was an indian
And I was on my land
Why can’t you understand

"There they battled up Iwo Jima's hill/Two-hundred and fifty men"

But only fifty seven (sixty seven maybe?) lived to walk back down again.

The ballad of Ira Hayes. I never can remember who wrote it. I learned it off a Townes Van Zandt album.
Mmmmmmm. Townes.

Beer, either you're pretty knowledgeable (and eclectic) or you have a heck of a search engine!

No, I'm a huge Cash fan (my boyfriend plays songs on the guitar and I sing em, so I know a lot of lyrics). I did check the Ironman lyrics. And I checked the number of soldiers who came down. :-)

EDIT: :-P I thought you were talking to me!

The marines took more of a beating than I remembered, I guess. Who was the original artist?

"Love" music, and I do have a pretty wide range of musical taste, problem is that most of it is pre-1978

Doesn't matter. I know for a fact that there was very little decent music recorded after the 70s.

Pshaw. Lyric from a good song written after the 70s (from the coolest band from the late 80s, early 90s):

What a life a mess can be....

Q'est que c'est? I was only joking. The string of lyrics just made me think about that scene in bull durham, which along with American Flyers is the only thing redeeming about Costner.

I probably spelled that wrong. Are you a WFU person? My wife and I went there.

Uncle Tupelo. Who else could do a country version of "Now I Wanna Be Your Dog" by the Stooges? (Or was it just iggy pop? I'm not that smart.)
