That hill doesn't look long enough or hard enough for a big attack, say on the next to last lap, for a small group to get away.  Not like the one in Athens four years ago, now that was a killer hill.

still 20 on the lead pack after 2 loops, although the chase group seem to be pushing hard...

Mens race work more as teams... will be interesting to see if those tactics come into play up the hill to get a win for the country! (riding like a tdf team)

I would assumed team USA or Australia would have done that for the women as well. Been a hilly course I think what the men teams will do is to make sure the best runner makes it to the 10K with the lead pack but that is just my guess.

Thats whats so strange... the Australian mens team have run that tactic for the Comm Games picking a good cyclist to leade out the pack etc and (rumour has it) will be running that tactic for the mens race so its odd that they dont apply the same principles for the women...

That hill really seems to be helping keep the lead pack small though...

Of course I say that as the commentator mentions she's not a strong runner. Hmm. In the '07 Hyvee tri she had the fastest run split of the top 10 all pro women finishers.

That chasing pack has more incentive to work together and get back on with the lead group.  Some infighting in that lead pack about who is and who is not working is going to let that chase group back in the race.

I like the pack of synchronized cheering human pom poms at about the half way mark.  Wonder who I could talk to to get that added to my tri race?

Still 20 what's a bit strange to me is that the strong cyclists are not using the hills to put preassure on Fernandes and Snowsill. If they both get to the 10K on the lead pack I dont see how any other gal can challenge them on the run.

Looks like the lead group has opened up the lead a bit on that chase group.  They looked closer last lap.

I think the Swiss (red) have 3 team members in there.... and New Zealand (silver) might have a full team in there too...

They are going fast enough that they are pulling away from the chase group though.  I agree, someone has to attack on lap #5 to try and get away.  Awful hard to do though without a serious hill.

Oooh, nice "google earth" type graphic showing the lead and chase group positions and the over view of the course.  This has been the best Olympics as far as "geek technology" is concerned!
