I am embarrassed to say that I drink three pints of draft beer every day, eat ice cream every day, fast food several times per week, high fat foods like hot link sausage, baby back ribs, fettuccini alfredo, lots of mike, cake, pie, (all deserts with homemade whipped cream or crème fresh) and pretty much anything else that looks good. I much prefer fresh food over process food (dinner meals only). Anyway, my average calorie intake is right about 6,000 per day. I am 5’10.5” and weigh 168 lbs (+- 1lbs). Play request ball one time per week for 2 hours and have recently started training for triathlons. Not huge distances or super fast speed, but very regular exercise.
Clearly, it is not the most healthy way to live but is sure is fun. When my metabolism slows down, I will have to modify my behavior. Here is the Kicker, on December 1st I will be 49 years old. I believe that lifestyles such as yours have shown a high correlation with cancer. Now, correlation is not causation... but I personally wouldn't want to take the chance. And I used to eat just like that. I'm a 6' tall woman and until I turned 40, I really could eat whatever I wanted and stay below 145 lbs. But my BF wasn't really all that low (had it measured when I worked out with a personal trainer at 13%) and I have rheumatoid arthritis, which is an auto-immune disease (basically an overactive immune system that attacks your own joints.) So I started to clean up my diet (I used to eat Taco Bell or hamburgers every day and had a milkshake from Baskin Robbins at least 3x/wk) and I found that my energy levels went way up! And my RA improved a ton, where I no longer needed prescription meds for it. When I turned 40, I was unfortunately on crutches from a horse falling on me, so I gained about 10 lbs, and since then have had a little trouble getting it off. I think it's a little bit that my metabolism is finally slowing down, and also that my job was causing me too much stress and not allowing enough time for exercise. So I've fixed the job problem (found a new one) and have dropped a few lbs. My point with all this is that sometimes a less than healthful eating plan has longer term and more subtle effects than you realize. I'm not saying you can never eat the good stuff (I love hot wings and Phish Food ice cream) but that if you never give your body good fuel, it will slowly start to break down in other ways. So enjoy your pizza or beer, but don't make them the main components of your eating. |

Only thing I have noticed is that if I eat crappy, or drink say more than 6 beers, I never get a good workout the next day (duhhh). This in itself helps me moderate |
