Do you stop at stop signs? (Page 3)

I think there are times when it is better to run a stop sign than to come to a complete stop.  If you and a car are appraching a 4-way and you are getting there first and the other driver clearly sees you and is clearly stopping.  Then I personally feel it is inconsiderate to then make that driver wait while I come to a complete stop, unclip, put my foot down, say a silent prayer, fumble around trying to get clipped in again and start again from a dead stop just becasue I was AR about 'stopping' per the letter of the law.  Like others have said, the biggest gripe motorist have with bikers is it slows them down.

I haven't read many of the responses but this got me thinking about my ride yesterday.  there is a very popular ride in the foothills SW of Denver called Deer Creek Canyon.  Cyclists like the canyon because of it's long challenging climb and the road is in pretty decent shape.  Problem is for most of the ride there is not much of a shoulder and there are frequent altercations between motorists and cyclists.  As a result, on the weekends it is pretty heavily patrolled by the police.  Yesterday I was riding up the canyon and there is only 1-stop sign that you need to worry about for the entire canyon.  I am coming up to it and I always look before going through it (I only stop if I see traffic or a cop).  Well, I see a cop up the hill on the intersecting road and i know I will need to stop.  Unfortuantely a rider about 1/4-mile in front of me didn't look!  She blew through the stop sign and the cop chased her down sirens and all!  She was ripping the cop a new one when I passed them.  I actually think the cop caused more of a hazard by pulling someone over in the canyon as the only way to get around him was to cross the double yellow.  I don't know if he ticketed her.
