Veteran 165 Aylmer, Qc | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC Morning to all... A bit pi**ed off this morning. I have the day off and was planning on my a longer TdF style ride today. But it's raining buckets and the rain drops are like needles!! I since I have a self-made commitment that the CompuTrainer stays in storage from April 15th to November 1st, I have to watch the weather radar for the rest of the day. I have no fears or worries of riding in the rain, but then again... oh well, wait and see for a few hours. That means I will be force to do some cleaning in the house instead!! ---- To Patricia: I watch the Tour live here in Quebec. We have live broadcasting (and in HD). As for online stuff, Cyclingnews.com is my main source, although I really don't like the website update they did a few weeks ago. It's a great site to check all year round, because they have live tickers (with really good and funny comments) of all the major races starting with the Tour Down Under right up to the end of the season. In regards to the jerseys, the simplest one to understand is the yellow, since it's cumulative time. Green jersey is based on a points system, that combines intermediate sprints, wins, etc. The red jersey is voted everyday by a panel to the most aggresive rider of the day. The white is for best young rider (cumulative). For the green, it might become more difficult for our horse Cavendish to keep. His goals are: win stages, but mostly GET TO PARIS, which he has yet to accomplish in the TdF. And since you will never see him in breakaways (therefore not collecting intermediate sprint points), it might become tougher. Although what MIGHT happen, is if they see that he as a real shot at winning the green, he might go in breakaways for intermediate points in the stages he his sure NOT to win in the final sprint (ie: mountains). Trust me, I am pretty sure he would love to see himself sprinting for the final stage win on the Champs Elysee. Since the TdF dropped the time bonuses a few years ago, it's now really easy to follow the race for yellow. ---- Okay, back to checking the weather GO TEAM!!!! |

I have a Road Race and a Time Trial this Saturday, and a Moutain bike race next Monday night. Hey Wes, 2 races on the same day? You do that often? You must be SOME SERIOUS cyclist, even the pros don't attempt that! Edited by patricia7 2009-07-07 8:24 AM |

Hope weather clears up for your ride, Bryan. Your 21 stage goal doesn't give you much cushion to make it up another day. You think Cav needs to contend for intermediate points and mtn sprints to get overall green jersey? I had always thought the sprinters just try to hang in the mtns, and as long as they do well / win in the mass sprints, they'll get the green jersey at the end. Will you be doing any races in Ont later in the yr? |

Expert 602 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC I think I just found the answer to my question - found the following on wiki. I guess Cav needs some points in the mtns too. That's going to be tough! Points classification Main article: maillot vert See also: Points classification The maillot vert (green jersey) is awarded for sprint points. At the end of each stage, points are earned by the riders who finish first, second, etc. Points are higher for flat stages, as sprints are more likely, and less for mountain stages, where climbers usually win. In the current rules, there are five types of stages: flat stages, intermediates stages, mountain stages, individual time trial stages and team time trial stages. The number of points awarded at the end of each stage are:

Expert 602 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC Happychick - 2009-07-07 3:33 AM Oooooh, do I get a yellow jersey if this keeps up?! The overall winner has the best overall time, but theoratically, does not need to win any stages, since everyone in the peloton (the largest gp of riders) gets the same time unless there's a gap of more than ??sec. Contenders get time on others usually in the mtns and individual time trials, and rarely in sprint stages. Edited by patricia7 2009-07-07 12:40 PM |

Expert 602 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC OK, can I post pics again? Stage Three - Marseilles to La Grand Motte, 196km, July 6th Columbia-HTC's Mark Cavendish soared to his second straight win in the TdF on Monday, strengthening his overall hold on the green jersey. Team-mate Tony Martin moved into the lead of the Best Young Rider's classification. Lance Armstrong also latched on to the break initiated by Columbia-HTC, and the seven-time winner vaulted from 10th to third place in the general classification as a result. George Hincapie called Monday’s amazing collective performance by his Columbia-HTC team as the greatest he’d been associated with. And that’s saying something when you consider that the American veteran was on all seven of Lance Armstrong’s winning Tour de France campaigns. What the Discovery Channel and U.S. Postal Service teams never did was put all nine of its riders on the front of the peloton during a flat stage and split the race apart. Columbia did just that on Monday afternoon, taking 16 other riders with them, absorbing a four-man break and then driving the move all the way to the finish line in La Grande Motte. Here’s the peloton heading out of the tunnel with Columbia in front. Edited by patricia7 2009-07-07 1:00 PM |

Thanks for all the explanations guys ~ like I said, before, I'm sure I'll have a gazillion more silly questions before it's all done and over with! It's funny...last night my hubby asked me why the sudden interest in the TdF. When I told him that I was on this challenge team, he just looked at me and rolled his eyes. What makes it so funny is that HE was the one watching it (I had recorded it earlier) when I came home from the gym!! |

Master 1632 Almost Canada, WA | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC ^^^Seriously? 4 pages in a row? I sooooo am not planning this...really!!! Either way, gotta love toppage! BTW, I forgot to mention that I did in fact get my (ashamedly admitting to a spin bike) ride in last night. Lucky me gets to go swim and run in the rain today! I mind the swim in rain more so than the run since the pool is always cold when it's rainy and cloudy ~ maybe the sun will poke out for a bit at lunch when I go...one can hope!! Veteran 165 Aylmer, Qc | Subject: RE: Columbia - HTC 1. My stage 4 in the books. Glorious ride in the Gatineau Hills (our local hilly ride. It's a national park). It has to be the spirit of Hincapie that was pushing me, because I pounded those hills. Or maybe because I really paced my climbs well (sticking to around 310W while climbing). 2. SOOOO happy we can talk about yesterday. If any of you watched, our Columbia boys gave a frickin' lesson of race tactics that will be remembered a long time. Stuff like this DOES NOT happen in stage 3!!! Still shakin' my head that some of the top guys slept on it and got left out. Trust me, this will mean we will see some crazy stuff in the mountains. 3. Cav for the green jersey? Somehow, I am sure he is thinking about it. One thing you have to remember, he is improving in the hills. He trained all winter and really showed great form in the Spring Classics. But the TdF is about A LOT of hills. I am still thinking he is looking for stage wins, and getting to Paris. But in a few years from now, he will be dominant for the green jersey. |

I can do 24 miles at a normal pace in less than 1.5 hours. Oh well, great ride anyway. Adam Go Lance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
