NOT a fun way to end the day. but in spite of how bad it sounds, all is well. stacieb ps now i cant sleep. yeah. does sound like a recipe for disaster. sorry for the 'cryptic' msg. all IS well. details on my log. but the gist. my youngest son was SITTING yes JUST SITTING on my middle son's bicycle in the garage, and it tipped over. somehow in the process of the bike falling he got his leg stuck between the crank arm and the frame of the bike. (fortunately the non-chain, non-sprocket side) and when i say STUCK i mean STUCK. my neighbor was able to remove the bolt w some major coaxing, but the crank never came off (ah. US engineering. this was one toughly made bike) in the meantime, i had called 911. my 'fear'/instinct was that if his leg was THAT badly wedged in, and it would take a long time to be freed, the circulation had the potential of being cut off. within a few minutes (though it felt like an ETERNITY in nervous mother time) the Fire Dept was here. 30 mins they worked to free his leg. like i said in my log, the fireman that was doing the cutting and the directing the entire 'operation' said that he's freed people from car wrecks a lot quicker than it took to 'extricate' Carson. OI me. they actually had to cut through the bolt and at the time use the Jaws of Life to pry up the crank arm. tedious as they didnt want the Jaws to slip and then have the crank clamp back down on carson's leg. once his leg was freed, we went to the ER, by ambulance no less. no lacerations. no fractures. thankfully. just Rx for RICE. ace bandage. crutches. Carson rested comfortably last night. this morning it wasnt even bruised which SHOCKED me. i was expecting it to be really ugly today. a tinsy bit swollen. but other than that....he's a-OK. whew! what a tropper he was. though the first few minutes he was completely petrified (understandably so) most the time, he was quiet and calm, still teary-eyed, watching the firemen and talking to them. that's my Carson. being a boy and being a mom of three boys can really take a toll on you. thanks for your support/concern. stacieb Edited by skrtrnr 2009-07-09 10:46 AM |

Pro 3932 Irvine, California | Subject: RE: Skil Shimano Ok, another stage done -- 30 more minutes on the drainer! So... seems like most of you know each other, but not me (well 'cept for Yanti!), so let me introduce myself. I'm Keith, came onto this site a couple years ago. A couple of my friends did triathlons, so they inspired me to try it out. I had also recently discovered I had type 2 diabetes, so it was good timing -- I needed something to focus on to get back into some sort of shape. Did my first (and so far only) tri last year in March. Lately I've just been focusing on just biking, since I'm planning on doing a century with my brother and some friends in September. And what better way than the TdF Challenge! So, hi. |

Sounds like an ice cream day to me i know, BILL. crazy isnt it?! a good story to tell back at the Fire Station. and YES, icecream all around, MOST DEFINATELY. stacieb |

Champion 6225 | Subject: RE: Skil Shimano taper week for me. i have a run and a bike left to do this week. im thinking of doing an impromptu 5K tomorrow (i guess its not impromtu, if im thinking about doing now, when its tomorrow....hee. crack myself up) and then its a 45 min ride, ill probably do that in the park early Sunday morning. slow and steady. then its a back at it week next week. im contemplating adding some races to my schedule. i hadnt intended on doing that many this summer, what w the boys home. but now w the summer schedule falling into place, im feeling like maybe i could squeeze a race in here or there. i found a Du in OH that im thinking about doing. hee that just sounds funny. a Du im gonna do. they have a Sprint that day too, that im considering doing instead. it has an OWS. 400m. good practice im thinking. and then a Aquathon - pool swim and trail run - the first weekend in August. both i thought i would do as training for my A-race/Sprint Tri in August, which has a pool swim, regular bike (road) and then a trail run. i really have a hard time staying motivated w my trng sessions, not having some event close at hand. and its not like i have to work up to any volume to do those races...im already where i need/and maintaining, so it wouldnt take any xtra effort or interfere w family time and summer fun! thats a plus. that's my thinking, anyways. HAPPY TRI'ING EVERYONE stacieb Edited by skrtrnr 2009-07-10 6:50 AM |
