Yeah, I'm going for the ice cream yesterday and today.  I do feel like crap, so it will almost be a relief not to be able to have it.  Then I won't have to struggle w/the temptation quite so much.

ChrisM - glad to have you!

I noticed that some of you posted your starting weight a while ago.  Please update with your weight as of today so that we are all starting from the same point for the same amount of time.

I debated whether to do this, I am a veteran of the last no-sugar challenge. I did great I think I was top five, my down fall was when the challenge ended and I sugar binged myself to death. When I started the last challenge I was 188 got down to 178, now I up to 200. I've had a terrible year workout wise. I want to make this stick this time and kick some real fat a$$!

So I'm in carteroak please enter my name on the spreadsheet and my start weight of 200#. I have had trouble accessing the spreadsheet in the past.

Thanks for the challenge
Tim

carteroak - 2009-08-29 6:12 AM Bob, we are glad to have you!  I added you to the spreadsheet.  Be strong on your trip!  I think sticking with healthy eating habits is the very hardest when traveling, but if everyone around you knows what your up to, and supports your efforts, that makes it much easier!

As for dried fruit - no-sugar-added only.  Some are easier to find than others.  It is easy to find raisins, dates, and figs with no sugar.  It is possible to find blueberries, but I tried the freeze-dried version and they were flaky/messy and awful!  I have not found sugar-free cranberries or pineapple - probably won't taste so good.  I haven't looked into bananas.  Anyone else have anything to add on this?

Also, as for trail mix - since chocolate is on the strictly banned list (unless it happens to be in your regular workout fuel within an hour of training), I think we have to stay away from the chocolate in some of those trail mixes.  Sorry, Michelle!    : (  I've had a lot of luck finding legal ingredients from Trader Joe's to make my own trail mix.

I admire those of you who have tried to get started early!  I had some pancakes from IHOP this morning after my race, knowing that I would not have them for quite a while come Tuesday.  I did manage to skip the syrup, for what it was worth.  : )

I totally understand!!!  I guess I should have added that I do use this mainly during long rides.  However, on occassion I use it as a general snack so I will be sure to not eat the choc covered ones (there are only a few in a bag!)  My hubby and daughter will GLADLY take them!

kcovert1 - 2009-08-31 2:49 AM What kind of Kashi bars don't have sugar in the top 3???  Be careful because brown rice syrup is sugar.

Also, another great cereal is Post Selects Great Grains, Raisin, Dates and Pecans flavor and Crunchy Pecans flavor.  Even my kids love this kind.

I totally binged out yesterday, and feel like crap today.  I had an ice cream sundae at 9 pm,  ughhh...I really need this challenge.  My weight today is 152.2.  Would like to be around 145 by the end, but not doing this so much for the weight loss, so I'm not going to obsess about it.

I took your advice on this during the last challenge and I must say YUMMMM!  I still eat this stuff and my hubby actually likes it too...even though he is a die hard sugary cereal kind of guy!

I'm in, just posted myself in the spreadsheet after an evening of cookies and cookie dough...something of a sendoff, I guess.  (Which should also give me a good start, as I am now thoroughly sick of chocolate chip cookies for at least a few weeks.)  :-

123 lbs tonight.

Dag Nabit!  I've been hovering between 138-141 lbs for the last couple of months (since the end of the last no sugar challenge...I seem to be stuck) and my official starting weight is 143!  Do you see the problem here?  I guess this challenge made a comeback at just the right time ~~ thanks Karla!!

We've got eighteen people on board - that's a great group!  I hope for strength in numbers!  Here we go guys!

I'm off for a run followed by a healthy breadfast of old fashion oats w/cinnamon and walnuts, and plain greek yogurt with frozen blueberries.

Good luck everyone.  Got my last bite of sugar last night with dinner.   Found some bagels and other items that qualify so breakfast is covered.    Hardest part will be no creamer in my coffee anymore.

Looking forward to a bite of Apple Cake on 12/24.   Wow, my math geek side just reduced that to 1/2.

I have a question. Crystal Light has asparteme as the 4th ingredient, is this allowed? Wanted to check before I take a drink. Good luck to everyone in the challenge. This is making me really think about what I eat before I consume.

I know I have no say whatsoever, and the rules said sign up by midnight, but I say we let Mekira in.  This is a fun challenge to promote a healthy lifestyle, and she wants in on day one.  Let her join.

Can I get in on this also, please?  Been trying to break my sugar addication for 20 years, (mainly Pepsi).  The last 6 months I've cut back to two a day, but maybe some peer presure will help break the habit

On the subject of Crystal Light, I'm going to have to say that's not allowed, as it is in the same category as diet sodas, and it definitely goes against the premise of the challenge.  Aspartame has been shown to have several negative effects on health, and its a good one to eliminate from your diet.

As for late entry, that's a tough one.  Did either of you weigh yourselves yesterday?  Have either of you broken any of the dietary rules in your meals since midnight last night?  I will consider, but have mixed feelings.

Anyone else want to weigh in on this (no pun intended!)?

I say let the late-comers come, but no more starting right now, and only if they give themselves dings if they accidentally cheated today (jeez...I'm a hard-nose, huh??)

On another note...I hope everyone is having a good first day.  I found a little quote in a magazine about a month ago, and today is the perfect day to use it.  It was from some health magazine that I was reading at the car repair shop.

"Ease your sugar intake.  Look for alternative ways to bring sweetness into your life."

I just love the idea of sweetness coming from other things besides food.  I think I will go get a big snuggle from my 3 yo son right now!!

Hey, Zac,  just wanted to say I am a UGA alum ('96)...I'm guessing from your avatar that you have some affection for Athens too!!

For my coffee, I use just cream...after a few weeks you'll be surprised at how good it tastes!  And this is coming from a total (recovered) Splenda addict!!
