Hi bryan, I have a ymca membership. They have a program that allows you to use other ys when you travel at no charge. I've done this once. There seems to be ymcas in many large and small cities. Just an idea for you. Hotel pools are generally really small and "state of the art" fitness equipment that they boast usually isn't that great

I just made one in my logs - if you want, you can copy/paste it into your logs too.

Almost Christmas!  I am driving to Idaho to see the family for the holidays - undoubtedly i will do some trail running in the snow, possibly snow shoeing (if there is enough), and, ahem, some beer drinking

30 min LT run this morning. I always start out too fast i think and slump in the middle. Had a strong finish though.(almost got sick on the cooldown) Light swim this afternoon with a 500TT to see where I am. Any one else on the 20week HIM program?

Hope everyone has a good holiday.

Hi everyone!  I was part of Mike's group last year and I'm being allowed to come back.  Sorry I'm late to the party.

STORY: I'm Tim.  I am a 38 year old, soon to be 39, from the San Francisco Bay Area.  I work as a firefighter-paramedic in Santa Cruz, CA.  I just completed my first year of Xterra triathlons.  Last season, I also did a mix of endurance MTB races and trail run races.  I hope to qualify for Xterra Nationals this year for both triathlon and trail running.  My ultimate goal is to complete an Ironman when 40 and, one day, complete either the Western States 100 or Badwater endurance runs.

FAMILY STATUS: Married with three boys (9, 6, and 3).  My two oldest will do their first off-road duathlon January 23.  All three ran a 1k race trail race last October.  Amazingly, they RAN the whole 1k.  So proud!

CURRENT TRAINING: My main focus is running, running, and more running.  My first marathon is fastly approaching in April.  I try to fit my swimming and riding in as best as possible around this plan for now.  I'm also working with a swim coach about once a month to improve technique.

2010 RACES:  Lots of planned races.  Most notable for me, Big Sur International Marathon, Skyline 50k trail run, and TBF HIM, and two 24 hour MTB endurance races.  It will be a busy year!

WEIGHTLOSS: No thanks.  I'm already at a scronny 150 pounds.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD GROUP MEMBER:  I have a pretty good technical knowledge of the triathlon disciplines, just wish I could implement them all.   I'll also be able to bring some perspectives from off-road cycling and running to the group.  I'm always present on the BT boards too!

Beer, hmmmm, beer!

Alright, just got caught up with the thread this morning over a cup of coffee.  It was looking like I was going to be the old guy of the group, but the came Lance!  Thanks buddy!

I got a nice easy 8 mile run in yesterday to finish my fall back week.  Went to the pool afterwards, but ended up cutting the swim short; It just wasn't feeling right.  I felt like I was fighting for balance the whole time.  This happens to me from time-to-time when I try to swim after running.  Anyone else experience this?

This morning, once my wife gets her butt out of bed, I'm going to get a ride done.  I just had a professional fit done on the bike and need to get some miles on it, then return to the shop.

Have a merry Christmas Eve!

Damn, just got back from my ride and my feet were numb.  I only have tri shoes which don't have a tongue in them and are mesh in the fore foot, not so good for warmth.  I think I'm going to have to buy some shoe covers if I'm going to continue to use these in training.

Wow, sounds like my Wed/Thurs....company happy hour turned into 6 hours Wed. and a Thurs that I would like to put behind me.  I made up for it today with an 8.75 mile run on the treadmill.  I broke the run into 1/3's, each with a negative split and tried to simulate the first loop of IMAZ, just for fun.  I hope everyone has a great holiday...and yes, I am the old guy of the group.  But there is an old saying..."age and treachery will overcome youth and skill"

Merry Christmas to all....I'll be snowboarding tomorrow

I too got a quick treadmill workout in between my gluttony.  Oh God, there is so much junk around here right now and I have no self-control!

11 mile run for breakfast. Yesterday was not  a good day in the house. Little one is on the back side of being super sick. So the night before Christmas and all through the house Mom and Dad got a whole lot of no sleep, our little creature was stirring most of the night. Last night was much better so off I went. May try to do last nights missed swim workout tonight.

Sorry to hear about the little one.  That makes for a rough Christmas.  Hope all is back to normal soon.

Indoor brick session today.

If you haven't checked out this thread here on BT, you might want to take a look.  I came across this the other day and started Week 1 of the program today.  These bike trainer workouts are quality and, best of all, free.  You would have to pay some coaches alot of money for this training.  For the first time, I felt I got a quality workout out of the trainer!

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=186131&start=1

Enjoy!

I got some vibram 5-fingers for christmas.  Went for a run in them yesterday, they're fun.  You should all consider getting them, my calves feel worked.
