Good morning ghoulies!!!
Thought I'd give the group a short history...
Ran my first marathon in 2004 and am currently training for my 8th.   So I guess I consider myself a runner.  Love the long runs - not much for the short ones.  Last year I got myself a road bike with the idea of trying a couple of tris.   Rode my bike all summer and continued to run, but didn't spend much time in the water.  I promised myself that this summer will be different!  Haven't committed to any triathlons yet - but I'm determined that I will.

Swimming is probably my weakness, but I do swim.  I was even on a swim team as a kid.  I will be working with a swim coach to try to improve my stroke.

I'm 50 years old, married, computer programmer by day, and the proud owner of 2 coon-hounds.

Better start to the day today than yesterday.  I'm traveling and forgot my wallet yesterday.  Luckily it is a driving trip and I'm with other people that can buy everything.

Managed to get up early and get a couple miles on the treadmill before heading to some meetings.  I'm not a morning person so every early morning workout is a small victory for me.

Good morning Mike.

Nice job on the treadmill runs.

I have a mental block with them. I ran outside this winter when it was in the teens because I would rather do that than be on a treadmill. I can do it when I have to, but I avoid them as much as possible.

Morning all

Mike got his run in today. What does everyone else have planned or already done?
I have a ride and strength training on tap if work and life will allow me to squeeze it in after work today.

I have parent/teacher conferences this afternoon. I'm planning on running home from the school then, 6.5 miles.

Probably a swim this evening, too.

Goodmorning all!  Today, I have a run planned on the treadmill for 3 miles and then strength training.  I wish I could run outside but I have a six and three year old that I have to put in the gym daycare.  So far I have only been running on the treadmill.  Is it significantly different than running outside?  Are you faster, slower?  Is it harder to maintain a steady pace?

Thanks for tolerating my dumb questions!!

All of what Bill said + if you can get outside to run AT ALL it would help you. Running on the road is a lot harder on the body than running on a treadmill. The treadmill is much more forgiving.

I want to encourage everyone to use their training logs if they aren't already. If you ask questions, especially in Tri Talk, being able to look at your logs is helpful.

It is also a good way for you to see the progress you've made.

y'all are exhausting me before I've even had a cup of coffee.....this morning exercise thing ain't for me. I WAS going to ride my bike on the trainer at soccer practice, but forgot the block, so no bike ride yesterday.Got in an hour with the (personal) trainer at least. Will play hooky with the bike this morning if I can find some paved paths - promised family I wouldn't ride near traffic until I stop falling. Seems reasonable. Then have running group homework with daughter when it cools off / dark hits, whichever's first.

Am going to brew the coffee....have a swell day!

Yes, I believe we have room for one more. There is a seat over on the left, second row back.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi Janet.  I hear ya on the short runs.  I am miserable for the first 2 miles of every run, long or short.  So a 3- 4 mile run is mostly miserable.  While I'm more of a jogger than a runner, my body seems to warm up around mile 4 and I actually enjoy miles 5 to 8.

It sounds like you're ready for a tri.  Which one are you going to sign up for?  Sounds like that is your next step.

Thanks you guys!  I had no idea it was much easier on the treadmill.  That would have been a rude awakening on race day.  Will have my mom watch the kids while I run in her neighborhood.  No hills, but there is a bridge run every Thursday night I am thinking about joining.  Maybe that will be my hill workout.
I think the mentor thing will really help.  Thanks for all the answers!

You better be offering up a bike - Bill does not babysit - sorry

Bill will run or bike with you while NJKim, Robin, Stacie, and I take care of the kids... and the margarita's.
