betsybromley - 2005-08-09 5:54 PM I am now 33 but not any more mature than a twenty something- does that count

I'm an 18 year old trapped in this 43 year old's body.  I'll beat anyone on the immaturity gap.

I'm 57 so I can be available as an escort to a pair of 28 1/2 year old women. I'll try and hang with Karl in the immaturity department...that shouldn't be too challenging! You're talking about the guy that showed up for the Hyannis 1/2 marathon last February wearing a black skirt, heels and a blonde wig.

Just to forwarn Renee...

Hmm, dunno about the full at that point, but I think the half sounds good to me.

Put me down for the 1/2.

Anybody know of any good duathlons to train for in kentucky, illinois or ohio? in the next few months? Was training for a tri here in indy but got sick and other circumstances and couldnt do it. still wanna get out there and ride my bike for a reason though. Take care all, Candy

Same here. When my brother was dating a younger girl I told my husband she was the same age as me - 29! Then I remembered, I am not even close to 29 anymore, just turned 33 this week. Oh well, I feel 29 and after training for a 1/2 marathon hopefully I'll look like I did when I was 29 again too!

Err......I saw you just over a week ago, and I think you're already there. Knock a half dozen years off that 33 and you're more closer to the truth! And 3 kids too...I thought "She has to be kidding..."

All of the training plans on this site are devoted to triathlons, they're not just run specific.  I'd go pick up a book at the bookstore or library.  You might also try Runners World at http://www.runnersworld.com/category/1,5034,s6-51-55-0-0,00.html as they have some helpful training plans and advice.  If all else fails, I'd just do your normal distances 3-4 times a week, then do one long run a week.  You should build you plan such that each week, you are adding 10% on both the one long run and the total miles for that week.  Over time, build up till you can run the 13 miles in one run.  Schedule it such that you complete one or two 13 milers at least 2 weeks before the race.  Then, 10 days before the race, start gradually ramping backing down on your distances, allowing your muscles to heal and rest before race day.

Ok, it is official Max, you are the best! I'd like to think I am not too far off from my 20's, but it is really just that my race belt was hiding my belly

Lucy, its very doable.  You have over 26 weeks to get ready.  If you started traininig today, running 1 mile for your weekly long run, you could add just 5% a week to the distance and be ready to roll on race day.  I say go for it.  What's a goal if its not a stretch?

Yeah...go Christine, go! You can do it! Then you can lie on the beach with the rest of us. Otherwise we have to give up beach time to go watch you race...it's a no-brainer!

Christine, take a look at the X-country Half Marathon thread - we could do a half mary in November and the timing would be perfect for us as we head into our peak training period for the marathon in Feb.

I'm thinking about doing the half but its a scary thought. Never done any "just running" events before. But the route is my normal running route (just a lot shorter) and that would be kind of cool. Things like what happened yesterday scare me about doing a half marathon. I was in the last mile of my run and feeling pretty good, running at a good pace. Then an older man (probobly twice my age and half my size) blew by me like I was standing still. It was very disheartening. Not that an older man was faster but that he was able to run twice as fast as I could. I just don't see how I could ever become that fast. Is it genetic or simply years of training?
But anyway I am on the fence about the half.
