Climbinggonzo - 2011-09-03 11:53 AM I'm tentatively booked at the Courtyard Marriott by the airport.  They're the only ones around $100/night with an indoor pool and hot tub.  Will the outdoor hot tubs be open at the Austin area hotels in October?  Having somewhere to soak after the race is important for me.

It's 100 degrees here today, and forecasted to by 105 by Tuesday.  We've had NO break from the heat this summer, and no end of it to be seen.  No rain at all.  Yes, outdoor pools will be open.

FYI for all those from out of town.  We recently had some wild fires that burned down 3 separate communities.  It was horrible.  Please prepare for heat and dry.    And hopefully no more fires.

Any plans for a BT spectator gathering?

When I jock-strapped this race in 2008 there was a huge BT contingency - a tented area on the run course with a cook out and adult beverages among other things. Pics of the festivities here! Was a lot of fun!

Just seeing if there are any plans for something similar this year?

Lisa - sounds good to me but I will be soloing it this year so won't be joining in until afterwards (assuming all goes well).

In that same vain is anyone planning on going out to dinner the night before?  Would love to meet up with fellow BTers.

I'm up for meeting a few of you fine folks.  I'll be in town by myself and don't know anyone down there anyways.  I'll keep an eye out for anything official, or feel free to include me in any pm's regarding dates/times.

Someone want to recommend a restaurant for Saturday night?  I usually go somewhat conservative the night before so the super spicy thai restaurant may not be the best choice for me.  Steak and a beer or burger/chicken and a beer would work well for me but I am flexible.

I once hit a Mongolian Grill type place the night before a race and felt it was a good deal.  You can add as much pasta as you want, and you can make your individual meal as spicy or mild as you want.  I essentially ate a giant bowl of chinese noodles and beef with very tame sauce combination.

But I'm no expert on pre-race nutrition and "carb loading" so maybe that suggestion is ultra dumb.

I think this is a great idea! Love those places as everyone can find something they like, it's so individualized!  I am a brown rice and tofu kinda girl myself...

Also remember Austin is the home of Whole Foods... I went to a HUGE one there with the full sha-bang deli/restaurant area. It was (pricey but) amazing.

My Man!  Salt Lick is YUMMY.  That said I don't want to burp brisket on the bike.  Just sayin.

Okay, what bike gearing is everyone bringing?  Can't decide if I am going to put on the 12/27 cassette.

Just my standard 12/25.  I've never heard anyone say the hills were any real trouble.

The race is getting dangerously close!  I had a great 1.5 mile swim in the lake today at my race pace, it's all slowly coming together.  40 miles on the bike tomorrow followed by 30 minutes of running, then the Twin Cities 10 Mile race this weekend.

How's it coming along for everyone else?

Good overall here.  Have had a bit of fatigue the last 2 days on my workouts.  My run on my last brick did not go well, and today's long run turned into a disaster.  Heat and humidity may be some of the problem.  Also, got a big ole blood blister on my big toe which caused me to miss a week of running.

What I thought was a spider bite ended up infected.  Luckily went into the Dr when it started turning red.  Looks like at least 3 days off from swimming and Running and may be able to return to biking on Saturday.  Not to panicked but not happy.

Hoping to get the packing out of my leg today and start exercising Sunday.  4 days off is killing me!

Here's another couple thoughts I had:

http://www.bucadibeppo.com/locations/default.aspx

or

http://www.mongoliangrille.com/index.html

or

http://www.pfchangs.com/Locations/LocationDetail.aspx?sid=9400&checked=1

I would think all the above should satisfy anyone's cravings for pre-race dining.  As far as Sunday night goes, I'm completely up for that BBQ joint that was mentioned.

Got the packing out of my leg but DNS' a sprint this morning.  Did a short 12+ on the bike yesterday and it felt okay, going for a run today.  Hopefully this time off will prove a bonus as I can hit the workouts harder this week.

Salt Lick for Sunday night (Driftwood location seems to be the only option for me) works for me.

Saturday - Mongolian or Italian works for me.

This will be my first HIM, and getting a bit nervous.

Anybody staying at Fairfield Inn & Suites Austin Northwest

I am not sure what to do about transportation, rent a car or take a shuttle and then take a cab back and forth to the expo?  I am traveling and racing alone, so ANY insight would be wonderful

I'm at the Embassy Suites downtown.

My brick over the weekend felt amazing. I think I'm just about ready!
