Regular 118 Marietta, GA | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Has anyone done IMCOZ and IMKY? I did IMKY last year and am considering doing IMCOZ next year (I had to take this year off from IM to keep the peace at home).
I was wondering about the differences between the races, local enthusiasm, etc. The venue looks beautiful and when I mentioned doing IMCOZ next year, my wife did not make it past me saying "...What would you think about going to Cozumel next November?" In all honesty, I don't think it even registered that I was talking about doing another IM. |

Member 14 | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Ryce, I have only done IM Cozumel so my experience is limited to that race only. The support given to the athletes by the people of Cozumel is wonderful. The town really comes alive during the race and while you ride and run through town you will be greeted by lots of cheering and beautiful little kids wanting only to touch hands. The swim is also a highlight and I cannot say enough about the beautiful, warm, and clear water. As far as your wife...there are many beautiful beachfront resorts that I am sure she would love. While you do the race she could spend the day in a spa. I would decide soon since I believe last year the registration filled up around July. |

Member 14 | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread When I was first deciding to register for this race last year I did an internet search for race reviews. I found a review from one of the competitors. Her name is Suzanne Hobson Navas. The below link will take you to a web site that contains some race reviews. The long one will be from Suzanne. Her commentary on this race is very good and not only does she provide some good insight to the mechanics of this race but it is also very funny as well as inspirational to what can be accomplished. After I read this review I registered for IM Cozumel 2010 and soon after became a friend of her's on Facebook. http://www.travelnotes.cc/tchatters/viewtopic.php?p=46821&sid=4486c8ef82addb84bbd4a6bb9f4d8b0e |

This hotel is about a 15 minute cab ride from the downtown/finish area. It was very nice and was an all inclusive. The breakfasts were very good but I didn't love the all inclusive style restaurants for lunch or dinner. I usually ended up each night downtown exploring different places to eat. The beach was beautiful and I was able to practice my swim during the days before the race. There was no need to attend the swim training sessions. After the race I was able to take advantage of the great diving and snorkeling that Cozumel is famous for. This year I am planning on staying at the Hotel Cozumel. It is in the downtown area and close to everything including the expo, athlete checkin, race meetings and most importantly you can walk back to your room following the race. However, this hotel is not a great resort and only provideds the basics. If you are coming with someone that is expecting to vacation in luxury while you are doing your race stuff then I would look to one of the all inclusive resorts. I think I will stay at this hotel for the race and days preceeding but check out the day after and go somewhere luxorious to spend the rest of the week. We'll stay at our favorite little hotel but we live down here so we're used to no luxury. |

I have unfinished business with this heavenly island and for the right reasons. We just love it. The Wyndham worked for us perfectly last year and this year we even got a better deal. Fly into Cozumel if you can. Alex |

Regular 69 | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Hi everyone!Just finished my first IM on Sunday IMCdA. It was amazing and I am looking forward to Cozumel I have one more sprint in August and then I am doing the twin cities marathon with my husband (it is his first 26.2, and a great training day for me). Then Cozumel. My only worry with this race is the heat, I am from MN, we don't have heat like that, but I will just have to stay on top of my hydration and I will be good to go Can't wait to get to know all of you!Lea |

Veteran 301 Belize | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Hi Lea, congrats on finishing your first Ironman! Cozumel will be my first but I'm planning to do the Cancun 70.3 as a prep race. I live in Belize where we have similar weather as Cozumel and I am still not used to the heat. I sweat a lot so I need to take electrolyte tablets especially during races that last over 2 hours otherwise I cramp up easily. My advice to you would be to do bring along some electrolyte tablets. They work! |

Regular 69 | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Thanks David. Do you have any recommendations for electrolytes you like? I will be able to try them out in the heat this summer, and see how they work. I have some, and they work alright, but we don't have crazy heat up here. |

Well, you *can* try to use USPS and MexPost, but whether it will arrive or not is a huge question. MexPost totally revamped themselves last year and people are starting to us it (and I've had success with the kids' schoolbooks) but I wouldn't use it for anything valuable. For example, all bills are messenger-delivered to the recipient. NOBODY uses the post. |

Would be great to get any shots of the bike ride (maybe something on the windy side to see what we may be dealing with in November!) |

Extreme Veteran 568 PaaMul QRoo, MX | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Here you go. This was going south then east then north then west. Not sure how the IM loops, but I think this is the same way it does. The first picture is crossing from south to east. We had big rain most of the way so this is one of the first dry stretches. 2nd picture is the turn (at the Rasta Bar) from east to north. 3rd and 4th pictures are along the windy side, (can I get an awwww for 5?) 6th is south of Chen Rio but north of Coconuts 7th is at Chen Rio. I stopped taking pictures between just north of Chen Rio and coming back as DH got sick and I just wanted to pull him on home. Enjoy! We're going to come back next month. This is a GORGEOUS route (especially since our normal route is along MX307 (only paved road we have to ride but lots of traffic and no scenery) and we loved it. Took us 2.5 hours to do the ride - we averaged 25kph but we stopped a LOT and I took a TON of pictures. I also didn't push the pace at all - I was enjoying the day. We normally average 30-32kph for a ride but I think this might have been windier for longer than we're used to. Also got lost in town trying to find the back way to the the malecon. oops looks like #2 loaded as #7. last one is the turn from east to south and shift all the rest up one.
