owl_girl - 2011-07-09 10:05 AM I'm heading out for a 50 mile ride.  What is the rest of the team doing this weekend?  How are you coming along on your goals?  Cheers!
Sprint Tri this morning - 3rd in AG!! Shaved 5 minutes off last year's time! It appears running every day in June has really paid off: 8:33 pace last year / 7:28 pace this year. A little faster on the bike as well. Oly Tri tomorrow - not the ideal tapper, but oh well. They are local tri's; hard to pass up.

It is humbling and an honor to be among such an overachieving team ... not kidding! Didn't I threaten early on every time someone posts that they're doing something like, uh, going out for a 50-mile ride or pounding out a half-mary, I was going to reply, "That's it?"

Congratulations Jeff--most of all on all the hard work but also the awesome result! Podium man, soon to be champion man no doubt! Have a blast with the Oly tomorrow.

Okay okay okay I confess I'm getting up in four hours to attempt a 10K ocean swim. :D

So in 'allowable' news about the Tour de France Team Sky ... triumph and tragedy abounds among the youngest, hottest, most charitable team. (I mean, we are that too, you know). Classic Tour de France.

In Stage 6, our Edvald Boasson Hagen won the stage, beating 'heavyweight' sprinters like Mark Cavendish and Thor Hushovd to the finish. This is Edvald's first TdF stage win at AGE 24 and he is the youngest stage winner since Cavendish! His win retained teammates Bradley Wiggins (British national champion) and Geraint Thomas in 6th and 7th places OVERALL in the general classification (Thomas also holding the white jersey for Best Young Rider) and himself in 8th. Unbelievable performances from such a young (and did I mention good-looking and socially conscious?) team.

In Stage 7, terrible tragedy struck. A pileup and crash left our team leader Bradley Wiggins, extremely popular and respected, and a very wide Tour favorite to win, with a badly broken left collarbone and unable to move his arms much, let alone ride. [Drat. I'm crying. I do love the Tour boys and of course our Sky boys especially.] The Sky boys waited for him in case he would be able to get back on the road, and in doing so, forfeited their standings and Geraint his Young Rider's white jersey. Unfortunately, "Wiggo" had to withdraw from the Tour, and now our brave, brilliant generous Sky boys are in the fight to regroup and reclaim.

Survived 10K ocean swim.

I do not quite remember when I have last felt so awful. Oh, right the Bali tri, but that was only an hour or so of agony after I got hit.

3:30 and a nice 2nd place medal in the books. I am going to pass out now.

Nice work Yanti - I cannot even imagine swimming that far or for that long! Enjoy your post swim coma!

Great work Jeff too - 1 weekend, 2 tris

x2

Well, I survived my Oly Tri - and actually improved by over 15 minutes from last year's race!! Right around a 5 minute improvement on each leg. Competition's a little tougher at this distance, but I still managed a top 10 finish (10 out of 30).

TdF challenge-related: I'm going to have to do a couple sessions in a hotel exercise room next week. I take it that still counts?

Yanti, a 10km ocean swim, that's it?
Holy mother of hell, it's been years since I've swum 10km in a year!
My hat is off to you and all others getting out amongst it.

I did indeed run the GC marathon and am willing myself to get on the bike. I've just filled out the spreadsheet with my goals, so I'd better get to 'em.

Hee hee ... Tracy, queen of the obvious, you

Casie--yeah, that's it, in fact I felt so shabby about it I went right back in the ocean today and swam another 37min "holy mother of hell" that's hilarious, I've never heard it before. Even though you just used it as an expression, it actually fits me very well

and thanks Raz and Jeff! Oh and congratulations on smoking your time from last year, and top 10 finish, AFTER podiuming yesterday, now that is hard core!

But more importantly in Team Sky news--I GOT BACK ON A BIKE OUTSIDE for the first time (2+ weeks) since the Bali Tri accident ... and it was dandy! I was a little nervous but mostly just really happy to be pedaling along. My sister's mountain bike and I was in flipflops, no pressure, just a lovely little ride to get to the ocean, swim, and come back.

Speaking of my becoming-hard but currently a bit flabby core .... and getting to the finish ... of the frickin' race report, that is! for the 10K swim:

Hey team!  I have to remove myself from the Challenge... I've been busier than I ever thought I'd be and then got sick... feeling better but I have no idea how much I'll be able to bike if at all in the next week between work and packing up to move into a new place.  Good luck to you all!

Oh goodness, I think this thread needs a bump. We are really not a very chatty team this month.

How is everyones cycling going? I am definitely a little off the mark, just bitten off more than I can chew this month I think and I just booked in a fight for Aug6th so having to ramp up muay thai training even more...

Is anyone (except Yanti!), watching the tour? I have caught some highlights but that is where it ends for me I'm afraid. Our coverage starts at 10pm and I'm well tucked up in bed by then these days!

I went on a business trip at the beginning of last week and then to my mother-in-law's over the weekend, so I've been away from the computer.

I got one ride in on the business trip (that encompassed the first rest day, which was convenient) on a stationary bike. I got two rides in over the weekend in the nice rolling hills of the Shenandoah Valley.

I finally took a day off from running on July 15 - I've gotten a run in every day since June 1, but the last two "easy" runs before my day off, my heart rate was pretty high, so I figured it would be best to rest - but I've been doing pretty well on this TdF challenge. I've only missed one planned ride. Plus I've gotten a couple rides in with my 14 year old son! That's been fun!!

On today's TdF Rest Day, I played some soccer with my 14 and 12 year olds. First "speed" work day for me in a long time.

What is everyone else up to?

Team standings as best as I can tell:

1. Garmin 90.01% complete
2. Liquigas 73.37%
3. Quickstep 71.65%
4. Leopard Trek 66.79%
5. Sky 49.69%
6. BMC - can't tell from their spreadsheet

For all teams, I did not include data from riders who completed less than 10% of their stated goal.

I aimed way too high ... like Sky high. Well ... I expected to be PEAKING for a half-iron, which involves just a wee LOT HUGE bit of cycling. Instead, I fell irreparably in love with marathon swimming so I've been spending nearly all my time in the water.

My best guess at team standings...Liquigas is challenging Garmin for the win!

1. Garmin 93.75% (1 rider at 100%)
2. Liquigas 91.52%??? (no riders at 100%)
2. Quickstep 73.78% (2 riders at 100%)
3. Leopard trek 66.79% (2 riders at 100%)
4. Sky 55.84 or 58.10% (looks like they lost half their team)
5. BMC 60.63%???? (1 rider at 100%)

I think we did lose half our team, or half our team isn't spreadsheeting, or something (my own incredibly feeble not-even-half goal gonna be reached notwithstanding). Where is everybody?

My plan called for 4.25 today - I did 34.26! 0.85 miles from my distance goal, but I'll need to ride to sessions tomorrow to hit all 21 stages.

Most miles in one month (and we still have one more week left in July - I may break 400?!).

Come on Team Sky - let's see what we can do tomorrow to close out our TdF Challenge!!
