Met Brian Denehey too, in Santa Fe. Harrison Ford standing in line for barbeque at "Pecos Bill's" in Burbank. Kevin Costner frequented a restaurant I worked in during high school. Went to high school in L.A. with a few future soap opera stars....

But, the coolest ever: Robert DeNiro came and hung out at Ranger Rendezvous in 2000. He was there with us for about 3 days, taking our pictures and asking to hear our stories. Very down to earth, awesome guy!

I saw, not met, Ben Afleck and Jlo in Sav. twice.  At the time I owned a restaurant in the historic district right next to a coffee shop and saw them there a few times during the filming of a movie of his.  I also have Jimmy Buffet's guitar pic he threw at me (front row-Red Rocks) from 1987.

Another Jessica Lang encounter. I rode on an elevator in a hotel in Portland with her, but had no clue it was her. The next day I was working out at a health club a couple of blocks from the hotel and she came in, stopped and made small talk for a minute or so, and then went off to another part of the club. I was still clueless until someone asked me how I knew her. I saw her a couple of other times during that stay and she always said hello.

I can't say I "met", but at the same hotel I saw: Madonna, Michael Jordan (actually all of the Bulls from either 91 or 92 when they played Portland in the finals), and Jordan one other time with Charles Barkley (they were in town for some nike event).

I watched the NCAA finals with Don Nelson and his staff from the Golden State warriors in one of the hotel bars. We were the only ones there, watching the game on a crummy 13" portable TV.

And since moving to Portland I met Shaq at the same hotel when he crashed our x-mas party a couple of years ago. I'm 6'6" and I felt tiny.

I met Bob Gibson at a hotel bar in St. Louis. There was some sort of St. Louis Hall of Fame event going on and a number of sports stars of long ago from the area were milling around the hotel, but Gibson was the only one I actually spoke to.

I used to travel extensively for work flying first class most of the time and would occasionally see someone "famous", but the only celebrity I ever spoke to on a plane was Terry Bradshaw who was hilarious.

From the tri world: Scott Molina, Gordo, Lisa Bentley, Tim and Nicole DeBoom, Brad Kearns, The "Baron", Cam Widoff and Chuckie V.

my favorite celeb meeting was Tom Brady a few years ago.  He was doing a bike ride for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and I was a volunteer.  Once he was done signing autographs for the kids, I got to have a few pictures taken with him.

I had to remind myself that I am old enough to be his mother.

I once met Kevin Spacey, Sean Penn, Mickey Rourke, and Lars Ullrich (drummer for Metallica) after a film festival in Santa Barbara. I talked shortly to Sean and Kevin (we`re on first name basis ), but the highlight was definitely my conversation with Lars and Mickey:

Me: Hey, don`t I know you from somewhere?
Lars: Yeah, we went to High school together.
Me: That`s right! (You played french horn in the band didn`t you?) How have you been?
Lars: OK (A$$hole).
Me: --Pointing at Mickey-- Didn`t he go there too?
Lars: Yep. He was the principal.
Me: Oh, yeah. (I hated that guy)
Lars: Later.
Me: (See you at the next reunion)

-Parts of the conversation in parenthesis were what I should have said.

Met Jackie Chan once, when I was 15.  Took picture.

Met Keith Lockhart (Boston Pops director) took picture and asked for autograph, couple years ago.

Met couple Hong Kong celebrities and took pictures, at various times when growing up.  Well, HK is small.  Relatively easy to run into famous people.

If lining up for autographs counts, got some from Tim Wakefield and Trot Nixon.

LOL - Not often I get to share this story.

When I was a teenager I had a summer job maintaining clay tennis courts at a fitness club in Montreal. I'd bike there at 6 in the morning, rake and water the clay courts. Then bike home and be back at 11 in the morning to do the same and then back again at 4 in the afternoon.

One Sunday when the finals at Wimbledon were being played I asked the owner of the fitness club if it would be okay for me to stay at the club after my early morning shift and watch Wimbledon on the t.v. in the kids nursery (as it was closed on Sundays). The other t.v.s were in the bar/restaurant but it wouldn't have been kosher for the employees to sit in the bar. The owner said okay so that's what I did.

I was lying back in a bean bag chair when the door opened and some guys in tennis gear seeing Wimbledon on t.v. peeked in the door and asked if they could watch Wimbledon with me. I said sure and they came in and watched with me.

Periodically one or two of them would go off to the bar to get some drinks and then they'd come back and watch some more. They even offered to buy me some drinks but I politely declined. We talked about the match mostly. Occasionally I'd see the receptionist peak in the door but she never said anything.

Then at 11 am I go drop off some towels at the front desk and the receptionist asks me "What are you doing in there?" I explain that the manager had said it would be okay but she explains "No I mean what are you doing in there with Supertramp?" I had no idea. Turns out the rock promoter in Montreal Donald K Donald was a member of our fitness club and he brought them in as guests to the club during their stay in Montreal.

-----
Met John McEnroe and Yanick Noah also at the club but to me that don't count as a celebrity encounter as they were there for a pro am tournament.

Took the ski lift with Robert Shapiro (OJ lawyer) at Sunshine ski resort but he was there for a celebrity fund raiser. Also saw Buzz Aldrin, Robin Williams at the same fund raiser. Again these don't count to me.

Only two people of note, both marathoners, oddly enough. Bill Rodgers, 4 time winner of the Boston marathon. And I camped overnight and played in a cut-throat scrabble tournament in a backpacking lodge in New Hampshire with Joan Benoit Samuelson, who won the inaugural Olympic womes's marathon in Los Angeles. She plays scrabble with as much determination as she runs!

Oh yeah and he hasn't become famous yet, but he might, so I'll say in advance that I've raced and schmoozed with Jorge Martinez (Amiine) from BT. Remember this guy...you'll be seing him in the pro ranks pretty soon.

I have a Rowdy Gaines story. The guy's always beeb kind of a hero for me. He didn't start swimming until highschool, yet became the world's best 100 freestyler not too man years later. Back in 1984, the summer before he won the 100 free at the Olympics in LA, he and Tracy Caulkins swam at an age group meet in Nashville that I swam at. This was a pretty cool thing, since I had  never swum with swimmers of that calibre.

So probably the first thing any kid does at a swim meet, the second he or she gets to the pool before the first session, is check out the heat sheet to see to see who they are swimming against. So flipping through it, looking at the prelims for the 200 free, I was seeded 4th, but...swimming next to me, in the very next lane was...Mr. Rowdy Gaines! So after a few minute freak out, I calmed down a bit and went about my business.

So for Rowdy, this meet clearly wasn't a big deal. Just a chance to swim a couple of races while in the midst of heavy training. For me, it suddenly became a very big deal. So, 200 free rolls around later that morning and I'm totally bouncing off the walls...can barely control myself. For those of you that know me, that is definitely not my personality type. My coach, trying to calm me down, reminds me this is just another race. It's a prelim swim...just swim strong and make the top 8 (this was a prelim/final meet. If you place in the top 8 in the morning, you get to come back and swim for "real" in the evening...as long as you place in the top 8, it doesn't matter whether you're first or eight. The final placings aren't decided until the final is swum).

So, my heat is called. Before getting up on the blocks, Rowdy turns and shakes hands with me and the other guy next to him. I'm shaking. Step up on the blocks, almost hyperventalating, trying to tell myself to calm down. "Swimmers take your marks..." Bend down, grab the blocks. Deep breath. "Beep." I'm in the water, sprinting like it's a 50. Turn at the 50, look over as I push off the wall. I'm leading! 100 yards...I'm still leading, by a body length! 150, still ahead, but by not as much. Tightening up, went out way too fast. Swimming as hard as I can. touch the wall at the finish, it's close. Look up at the clock and there's a "1" next to my name. I beat Rowdy Gaines! I beat Rowdy Gaines!

He shakes my hand, says "good swim," smiling. But barely breathing hard. He had given it to me. I went 1:45 something, and beat him by a couple of tenths of a second. In the final, he swam a 1:38, and I got third with another 1:45.

So yes, he had given it to me. But I gladly took it.

Cool!

Hmm... my only famous person story (and it's by association): My great-aunt was Jackie Kennedy's seamstress while she was in the White House. It's my only claim to fame, so I'm claiming it

(and she taught me how to sew, which is awesome!)

I'm amazed at all the Tone Loc sightings. I was watching a movie the other day with him in it, and I actually said, "I wonder what happened to Tone Loc?". So, what happened to him? Is he just performing Funky Cold Medina in bars around the country?

I ignored Weird Al Jankovic in a bar once.

For the Canadians out there, I was in Australia and I went to see Blue Rodeo with a bunch of colleagues from the restaurant that I worked at. Before the show we were kind of all over the place including my boss who was sitting with a guy I didn't recognize. I sat down, she says "he's with the band". I thought he was bullsh!tting. It turned out he played slide guitar. The show was great, and the band asked us to join them after (our group was heavily weighted with hot young women). We said no. The whole band was very nice with the notable exception of Greg Keelor who didn't talk to anybody.

Ray Charles and Taj Mahal - how cool! And Tom Brady too - I know I would just stand there blushing.

Probably the most famous person I got to hang out with was Elton John. He is my friend's godfather and in high school she would take a bunch of us to his concerts. One year he got sick and couldn't play but he said she could pick one friend to come stay at The Ritz in Boston on him. She picked me and we spent the weekend partying with our friends and hanging out in his suite. He had always been very sweet and we liked him best this time because he gave us champagne, paid for our room service and let us use his limo for the night to drive around and find our friends (everyone was in Boston for the long weekend - Head of the Charles)

I had lots of little encounters when I used to work in the event planning department at the World Trade Center in Boston.

-John Kerry and Ted Kennedy were very friendly.
-Hillary Clinton, Oprah and Maya Angelou were there but I only got to hear them speak.
-The Dunkin Donuts man (who just passed away) was pretty funny to meet -he almost slept through his appearance at their annual convention - we had to have someone call the hotel to wake him up.
-The All Star Hockey game was in Boston that year and I was the "escort" for Mark Messier and Wayne Gretsky - basically just followed them around and got them food and water. Wayne was not too friendly but he had tons of people with him, Mark Messier was really nice.

Cam Neely was huge for me -he had been my favorite since I was little. I had one of his old sticks and was given special permission from my boss to ask for his autograph. By the time he got there and I was standing there waiting I was so nervous I couldn't say a thing - I just sort of shoved the stick at him and mumbled about how I got it. He was semi-nice, but when he came to another event and saw me wandering around him all night I think he started to think I was nuts.

Oh yeah, and for you older Boston people Bob Cousy was one of my grandfather's best friends - he used to come to my birthday parties when I was little.

I forgot my most obvious one - my cousin is an actor who is "almost famous" - Chris Evans. He was in a couple of movies but his biggest to date was Fantastic Four - he played Johnny Storm. If I can figure out how to do a picture I'll put the one of us from October when I saw him on a trip to London where he was shooting a new movie.

Manuel Noriega. His niece was on our swim team. Decades ago.

Carlos *****, personal secretary and former business partner of Manuel Noriega. Family friend. His wife and kids stayed with my folks, pre-Operation Just Cause.

My sister met Roberto Duran and General Omar Torrijos. She also flew in Torrijos' personal jet to Cuba for an international swim meet. Lucky dog.

My other sister stayed in Noriega's condo in Paris (on River Seine), pre-incarceration days.

Oh yeah... I dated the son of a semi-famous political figure who was in the Nixon administration and was rehabilitated. I deflowered him (the son) during our college days. I, on the other hand, was deflowered by a locally famous legal figure with sports connections; would be indiscreet to name names. A couple of years ago, I met a former Florida Representative who now holds a local position; he asked me to dinner but I was in a relationship at the time - and he's Republican so that would never have worked! I also met Mayor Pam Iorio. I knew former mayor Dick Greco when he was chairman of a now defunct bank; Edward DeBartolo was on the bank board and I met him too. Met the deceased former own of the Bucs... what's his name?... Hugh Culverhouse. He was shorter than I am and quite ugly.

Danced next to Ed Bradley at the Ocean Club, post-Super Bowl celebration (Tampa's first SuperBowl in the 80s). He was having a great time!

I would LOVE to meet Kurt Vonnegut.
