Erincsg - 2012-01-11 7:46 PM i've been using myfitnesspal.com to track food & exercise calories for about a year; I lost 25# last year and have kept it off, the last 7-8# aren't going anywhere fast.

Thanks for this link Erin. I actually looked at it yesterday and I am going to try it for food logging. I only have about8-10 pounds to loose. I really need to track my calories if I have any hope of loosing.

I dont follow any special diet other than to try to minimize processed foods. I give myself unlimited veggies, I eat  3-4 servings of fruit and unlimited protien. If I eat anything processed I cut out a fruit. I really like fruit It has worked well for me. I also find that if I drink the water I eat a whole lot less. My downfall is work. For some reason people bring nurses candy...have you seen the size of  a lot of nurses...they dont need candy!!!! When I work at night and get tired I crave the carbs...just have to learn to say NO!!!!

Hi Joel...Glad you came to join!!!

All of you should know that Joel is one of my sons best friends!!!!  He lives right around the corner from me!!!!I am thrilled to see him get into doing tri's...its been a lot of fun to see his excitement.

I will say that he is a pretty good athlete and his passion for the sport is going to make him pretty speedy...pretty fast!!!!! I fully expect that he will beat me at open water swimming this season!!!!

Glad you have decided to do Mooseman Joel. Its a great oly...you will love the bike course but the swim is VERY cold. Average water temp is about 55* on race day. There is plenty of time to train in the cold water before the race...no worries. Glad you found a place to swim close to work. Are you riding indoors/trainer or still biking outside?

Got room for more?

Mav I think you were part of a group I was in back around 2010 season and you always left me greats "inspire me"s ( I recognise your picture)

Well this is my second crack at Tris,  First was 2010 and I completed my first Sprint (Sharons Back) and immediately regretted that I had not signed up for more, aside from the run leg of Title 9 where I used my jealousy of all the competitors to put up one of my best (still slow) 5k times. I swore I would do 3 in 2011

I got married a few months later (thus the screename) and was pregnant before I could even believe it was possible. So No 2011 Tris.

So here we go again, but this time with a 6 month old and a husband in the mix

Few months ago I got a saw an ad (on Facebook of all places) for a discounted rate on the DC tri, and I was signed up.  The idea of going by all the monuments seems fun and Ill have plenty of time to take in the sites at my pace :p

Really glad to see everyone else here is juggling a lot and still training, Just what I need!

Oh...I cannot forget...congrats on the baby No better way to set an example for our children...exercise regularly and be healthy! Take time for yourself and act as a role model.....in the end your child will model your behavior!!!!

X3 to Erica!  And some sort of weight loss challenge might make things intersting...  We had a thing here at work a couple years ago, but the guys argued too much about how to set it up so we never did it again. (I was the only girl who played - no one else would put a number on paper.)

I'd be all over a weight loss challenge.  I must stay motivated.  While my loss this week (plus) was nice I often tend to fizzle out and start eating crap quickly again.  I need a carrot to chase.

Big fail on water yesterday.  I didn't have one ounce of water all day.   I had lots of coffee, Diet Coke and one beer to round out the day.  New day today and I am cutting down on my coffee and starting the water drinking early.

I actually rode the trainer today. First time back on the bike since my sprint in August when I broke a spoke.  I made it 20 minutes before my arse was ready to be off!  Followed the mini ride with a quick run on the dreadmill (waiting for a phone call from my sons teacher) to round out the training for today.

What is everyone else up to training wise today?

Way to go getting back on the trainer Erica.  I got back on mine this week for the first time in a long time too.

I also got back in the pool yesterday.  First swim since September when I did the Provincetown Swim for Life.

Friday's are typically my off day.  Happy training to the rest of you!

Hi Fellow New/Old Englanders!  I would love to join your mentor group if you'll have me...  I'm actually already part of another mentor group, but would love the opportunity to get to know other folks in the area who do triathlons and maybe train a bit together, possibly some group rides when Spring arrives??

Name: kpringle/Kristen

Story: This will be my second season of triathlon.  I'm a 38 year old (just turned 38 yesterday!) stay-at-home mom. My first tri last year was the Cohasset Tri.  I really wanted to do that one because a lot of the $$ raised at that race goes to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and I've had type 1 (juvenile) diabetes since I was 9.  So it took a good personal cause to get me motivated!  I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed training for the race and participating!  I did the Hopkinton Title 9 tri last Sept., too.  And then managed to do a 1/2 marathon (my first) in October.  The coolest thing I discovered during tri training last year was that I enjoy running.  I'm not fast, but I really do like it!  This year I hope to do many more races!

Family status: I have been married for 8 years and we have 3 kids - a 5 year old, 3 year old and 2 year old.  Oh, and a dog who is sometimes more work than the kids!

Current training/Races: Currently following Hal Higdon's training schedule for the Quincy 1/2 marathon in March. Then will switch to a BT schedule after March.  I'd like to do an Oly this season.  And I recently purchased a new road bike, so hope that helps improve my cycling times! I know, have to work on the engine, too!  The bike is my weakest leg!

What will make me a good mentee:  I'm pretty "active" on BT, love to give inspires, love to learn new things, and would really love to meet new friends who do triathlons in the area.  I think it would be so fun to do a race together or train together occasionally, and I love the accountability/motivation of a good mentor group!!

I look forward to getting to know you all!!

Thank You!! Yes, My husband and I have said many times we got to lead by example.  even with work, the house and all other obligations.  we got to help each other to make it happen

So glad to be on board, and really excited to race again

Fantastic!!  I'm in Hingham, lots of great places to go for a bike ride around here come Spring!    What town are you in?  Are you considering doing the Sharon Tri again this season? (I saw that you did that race a couple years back.)  It's on my calendar for 2012!

So, I'm playing a bit of catch up here...  Drink lots of water and some sort of contest to lose 10 lbs?  Yes, please!!

Hi Kristen, welcome to the group.  Marianne has thrown down a water challenge.  Drink 64 ounces a day and we are working out some weight loss details.  I guess we all should come up with a goal?  I am thinking I need to lose 7 more pounds but more importantly need to tone up my flab!

I think I have added everyone to my friends list.  If I missed anyone, let me know and I'll add ya (I'm friends only cause all of BT doesn't need to read about my crazy life).

Any big weekend plans for anyone?  Not much here, basketball all day Saturday, Sunday we are trying out a new brewery in Granby, CT and Monday it's wait for the fridge repair dude and IICAPS for Cole.  Such fun, no?

Welcome Kristen....always good to have one more.

For those who may not know what Erica is refering to...the friends list is part of your blog/training log. You can go to the control panel at the top of your training log and click. Then find "friends list" click...then add the people in the group( ie mav). Out avitars will show up in your training log. When you want to visit our logs...and stalk  check on how someone elses training is going...you just click on the pic!!! It will take you to their training log. In the corner of everyday there is a l;ittle box that says inspire(0). If there is a number in it...it means some one has left you a message after checking in on you. Click it to retrieve the message. I will often check logs to see how people are doing and offer suggestions/encouragement...if your trainig log is "private/friends only...I cant check unless I am on your list.

I know it sounds a bit confusing but it is great to get encouragement and feedback on your training. Feel free to ask questions about how to navigate the site. Chris I am sure you can help with this as well because you have been here longer than I!!!!! I am actually quite pleased you were looking for England...but found New England!!!!

I have done well with the water today and I ran. I am procrastinating getting my arse on the trainer...I really dont like it! I was hoping to ride outside this weekend but the temps will not allow it.

I have been quite busy lately...things should level out over the next week and then I will be more present.

GROUP CHALLENGES:

Water 64 ounces/day- Try to drink 64 ounces of water/day. This does not include hydration from training. The purpose of this is not only to keep you hydrated but also so that you feel more full/satisfied and dont eat as much. For some people this is very easy ...for others, not so much. I try to reach this goal 5 days/week

Weight loss challenge: I was thinking that we should each have our individual goals and post weight loss per week on Monday morning. This prevents weekend indulgences or at least helps to minimize.  ( Especially when one visits a brewery on the weekend ;/)

I am open to what ever you all want to do

Hi Kristen!  I'm following Hal's HM plan [oops, lied about that; I started with Hal Higdon but I couldn't figure out how to upload it; now I'm using BT's HM plan 4 days/wk plus cross-tr] for the Quincy 1/2 too! It will be my first attempt at that distance (and I do mean Attempt).   I live in Hopkinton and look forward to meeting up too

My boys are 5 and 2.  I cannot fathom adding a 3y.o. to the mix!  Hang in there.

Let's get mav to register for Quincy.

Cheers,  Erin
