Subject: RE: 2013 IMTX
I appreciate the information, but the comment was pure speculation. SPECULATORY COMMENT AHEAD: IF IMTX got moved to Galveston, and affected the 70.3 race, it would explain why IMC is keeping registration for both races closed. It's possible that IMC is keeping Galveston as their backup in case the person in charge of permits in the woodlands is not pro-ironman. I don't know if IMC ever runs a 70.3 and 140.6 on the same course, but like I said - everything is pure speculation. As of the last few days, the Galveston website hasnt even been updated to reflect next years race, and that update happened much faster last year. Galveston is the race I plan to do every year, so I watch the website. I'm not sure if IMC was more on the ball last year because it was the first year they ran the Galveston 70.3 as their race, but who knows. For now it may be a moot point because I just heard that IMTX WILL be staying in the woodlands, but permitting will be delayed until after the elections. Once again, who knows? We won't know for sure until IMC announces it.

Galveston has always seemed like the most logical place for a full IM distance race. I would do a full there in a heartbeat.

I hope ironultrared is correct about the IMTX staying in the woodlands, but if it moved to Galveston I wouldn't be upset though. But like she said, everything is speculation.

All our races are mostly smooth. Not a 70.3 or full but the sprints and olys are mostly smooth 4 lane roads. Come on down for any distance!

Well, for the record, after training in the wind and on the chip seal of Fort Worth I found IMTX roads to be pretty kick butt. Especially those in Montgomery County I'd love to see it stay in the area. I am NOT a fan of the swim course in the Woodlands (as it relates to swimming). For the spectators - the canal is probably wonderful, but for swimmers it leaves much to be desired. However, I would do the race again in the Woodlands in a heartbeat. The run course could be made better, but it isn't horrible.

According to this article posted yesterday:

http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/courier/news/ironman-registration-postponed/article_2d37d4fe-2041-5e0b-9a44-a5d88786fae1.html

Both The Woodlands Township and WTC make it sound like the race is staying in The Woodlands at the very least for 2013. They also mention that this is year 3 of a 5 year contract between The Woodlands and WTC, so I don't see the race moving any time soon. The article quotes people from both sides, so it seems pretty reliable.

Just thought I would share.

It says TEST in front on the title. Also, it was the 19 this past year ('12) and that dates now corresponds to a Sunday. So... I don't think this is anything to get excited about, YET.

I heard they have delayed registration because there is some strain on the relationship between the city officials and WTC.  Apparently the residents complained about traffic issues and the race.

WTC is having difficulties acquiring the permits necessary.

Mainly due to a changing of the guard in the county. Additionally, between the city and the state there are traffic control concerns. WTC needs to get approval from multiple parties prior to being able to set a date. I've heard that WTC is not happy with the situation and would move the race to Dallas if not resolved and has located potential sites already.

Thank you Montgomery County! And you yuppie Woodland folk!

That only adds an extra hour drive time for us anyway, so no big deal.  I would have thought Galveston would have been their choice, but Dallas would be cool!

Wow, is Grapevine on the table?  I really have no intention of doing a full IM, but geez...would be tempting if it's right here.  Would at least be able to volunteer.

Sorry, still going by all the rumors - I loved the Woodlands and enjoyed the fans there twice racing the Ironman- only hope it would stay since I do like it - BUT - it seems there has been a falling out of some sort with the WTC and Woodlands - again not a true reflections of the people but clearly there are some issues that don't seem to crop up at other locations - I don't know of any Ironman events that have delayed entry for next years race. LIKE I said  - the fans support was un-believable, only hope some sour apples don't spoil it for all.

exactly...I'd actually get back on the bike and do a tri if that was the case.

Alas I dont' see it happening.,, yet.  they are in year 3 of a 5 year contract and the rumors are not the woodlands they are having issue's with but a town the bike course goes through.  so the bike course is being re routed

Agree with Courtney, most of the complaints came from the areas outside of The Woodlands on the bike course.  At this point - in my very very narrow view - everything appears to just be rumors though.  Personally, I hope it stays here in The Woodlands.
