Louisville only worries me with the heat. Any veterans out there to sell me on this race versus others? One positive is that you can still get in! I think my wife and son would enjoy this venue as well. Just noticed the local Greenville peeps on this forum as well-another plus! Edited by barcaray 2013-01-08 5:05 AM |

Member 18 Chantilly, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Louisville can be a VERY hot and challenging race, but it's a great venue. I'm a little biased being from Louisville and it being my only IM (2010). The only negatives in my opinion are having to wait in line for a couple hours at the time trial swim start, the murky Ohio river, and little to no shade on the run course. The upsides are a very scenic bike course (although lots of rollers), fantastic crowd support, an incredible finish line, and lots to see and do for the family. The weather seems to flip flop every year, but the key to a good day in Louisville is pace and hydration. I just signed up again myself. |

I look forward to seeing all the first timers and veterans at the IM distance start and of course again at the finish line! I also look forward to making new friends. |

I did Florida in 2011 and had a blast. Louisville only worries me with the heat. Any veterans out there to sell me on this race versus others? One positive is that you can still get in! I think my wife and son would enjoy this venue as well. Just noticed the local Greenville peeps on this forum as well-another plus! I've done both Florida and Louisville. Lots of my friends have done B2B, but I have not. I would actually recommend B2B over IM Louisville. If you're in Greenville, B2B will be closer and cheaper. The heat is often brutal during Louisville. I also thought the non-mass start was really weird and creates a race where you don't know if your ahead or behind the person next to you. The bike course is more challenging with hills in Kentucky also - not sure if thats an issue or not for you. On the flip side, B2B has been really cold before. And of course, its a non-IM branded race. B2B shares a lot more in common with IMFL than Kentucky. If you're looking for more of the same, go B2B. Setup Events puts on great races. If you want something different, go with IMLou. |

I haven't heard that but that would be terrible. The Fourth Street venue is awesome! Was reading an article the other day and it's among the top 5 best finishing venues out of all the WTC races. On a side note I finally bit the bullet and signed up for IM Lou yesterday. Just over 32 more weeks to go! |

The rumor was posted on Slowtwitch and referenced information on the IM Louisville facebook page the indicated a run course change and further details would come in March. IF it is true, I hope they are not waiting until March to announce the change in hopes that people will continue to register instead of potentially waiting until next year. That would not be cool! |

22 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Read on iamtri.com that run course change is in the first two miles and has to do with the bridge section and that finish would remain at Fourth Street Live. Hope this is correct.
Happy training everyone.

Member 11 Duncan SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Thanks for the info Steve. One thing I've been itching with B2B is that there I could try and beat my Florida time -11:29. With the heat, humidity, and having to reign it in a bit on the bike, I think it would be pretty difficult to do so at Louisville. I had a friend that did Louisville in 2010 who thinks the added costs there would only be the race entry and longer drive. Just on the fence as to which venue would be more enjoyable for the family also. |

Member 107 Middle Tennessee | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Hello Everyone, I am entered in IM Louisville for 2013. As a newbie I have a couple of questions for veterans of this event. Does anyone know what type of products are offered on course for hydration and fueling? And also, where do our special needs bags go? At what part of the course do they leave them? Thanks in advance for any help! |

Member 64 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Congratulations on signing up! Last year was my first IM and I did it in Louisville, cant think of a better place to do it!! If you go to the Louisville website it will tell you what the nutrition on course will be, it looks like it's Powerbar perform sports drink and gu bonk breakers but they also had gels. As for bags, they will be given to volunteers who put them on trucks to be taken to the half-way marks of the bike and run. You take them down to transition the day before but will have access to them in the morning of the race if you need to make adjustments, and when you are ready, you give them to the volunteers to put on the trucks. THEY DONT GIVE THEM BACK so don't put anything in there you want to keep. Good Luck!! |

That being said, nobody can discredit a solid IM Lou time it is a totally different animal. |

Chicago, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread pfd104 - 2013-01-28 12:46 PM My IM LOU 2013 Fink plan starts today. With a rest day I'm following the same plan. I've made some adjustments to the schedule since I started 3 weeks ago (doubling up on some weeks along the way), and to account for the Racine HIM not falling in line with the program schedule. I'm liking it thus far, and have been pretty successful in getting up early, and completing the workout before heading to the office. This is the first time I've trained by following my HR, and I've noticed quite a difference in how I feel after a workout. We'll see if that is still true when I reach the 15-20 hour weeks.

23 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread pmtaylor, I live in Chicago and am training for Louisville as my first Ironman as well. I am following the Fink plan, so its good to know there are others in Chicago doing the same. Are you doing all the training on your own or as part of a group? I would like to find a group for some of the long rides / runs on the weekend. Based on your race reports, our paces look pretty similar. PM me if you are interested in doing some training together. |
