I do not have a concealed carry permit and don’t believe it is necessary. By definition no one knows when I’m packin’. If I we’re a teacher I’d carry to protect the kids. Not real interested in charging a guy with a gun with a #2 pencil. You need to trim your toenails... Ouch Who loves ya baby? That quote really dates me, eh? Kojack! Guess that dates me too..... |

I’d be hard pressed to find one of them I’d trust with a firearm. That may not be the case in every school but I’d wager it’s the case in a majority of schools. Originally posted by RogillioI have been racking my brain trying to understand why anyone would oppose arming some teachers and faculty. To me this is the FIRST and best thing we can do. Rog, this is a quote from someone who I am sure is no lefty and quite educated in the matter (lifted from a piece on Politico):“We think that teachers should be in the school to teach kids and not have to worry about the responsibilities and the liabilities of carrying a gun and being expected to use it in that situation,” said Mac Hardy, director of operations for the National Association of School Resource Officers.Mine is too, though stopped full time gig years ago and only subs these days. I think we'd have better results arming administrators and concentrating less on the teachers. Most administrators are hard charging career oriented individuals; making weapons training part of the job would be assimilated by these people without much difficulty. Arming the teachers? We can't discount the 'momma bear' instinct of the teachers. Cornered in a classroom with her kids, I believe most of the teachers I know could be capable of at least emptying a full magazine downrange toward the threat, in order to protect their students. I believe 15 rounds of withering fire would probably make most of these nut jobs tuck tail and run. Downside of spray and pray defense is collateral damage. To the highlighted point, I heard someone on the radio on my ride in comment that most mass shooters either commit suicide or suicide by cop. So the idea of them being scared off by return fire may not apply here. I'm not so sure that "spray and pray" is a sound mechanism for school security Lefty: If I was in that chamber during the event you speak of I am dead certain I would be carrying a firearm with me now. I wasn't advocating for the spray and pray defense, just suggesting that every roadblock that we can put in place has the potential to stop, slow down or alter the sequence of events. While most of these guys are planning to die, this guy actually left the building and went out to eat. He didn't kill himself or stick around to be killed. If he had been interrupted before killing anyone and ran, we'd be talking about the hero teacher that stopped a mass murder. Has anyone read why he stopped? Did he run out of ammo? |

Nah, I just heard that he dropped his weapon, took off his gas mask and blended in with the crowd. Went to Walgreens and then MickeyD's to get a burger and a shake. This guy has earned his gurney and needle, and we're happy to oblige here in Florida. We're not as practiced as Texas mind you, but we've escorted a few nut jobs to the Pearly Gates in our history... |

"Other states are outlawing DP executions, mine is putting in an express lane." Much to my surprise our uber right governor actually made the last minute call to stay an execution this week. First in at least a decade to my recollection. |

I'm not sold on the fact that capital punishment is a deterrent and I know it is more expensive than just life, but it is my view that some people commit crimes so heinous that there is really no other punishment of proportionality. This guy Cruz - he goes there. Edited by Oysterboy 2018-02-24 2:20 PM |

The appeals process keeps these animals alive for much longer than necessary, driving the cost waaaay up. When it's a clear cut, no gray areas crime like Cruz committed... I think we sentence and execute on the same day. The parents and taxpayer are owed as much IMO. |

The people that commit these heinous acts know there's a high likelihood they're going to get killed doing this stuff. I really don't think they care whether they live or die. The best solution in cases like this where it's open and shut, 100% obvious who the perpetrator is...is to make them suffer. It wouldn't be "torture" per se, but more of an, "enhanced incarceration." No furloughs. No communication with the outside world. They'd find death to be a welcome escape. In fact, they'd never see another human again. They'd be chemically castrated, subjected to almost constant discomfort...it wouldn't match the pain inflicted upon the families who lost loved ones, but it would be a start. |

Pro 15655 | Subject: RE: Students walk out......... I'm against capital punishment. I'm for removing people from society who obviously can't live among the rest of us, and I'm all for killing them if they are in the act of trying to kill or hurt others. But once in custody and no threat to anyone, no, I do not believe that is for a govt. to decide. I've been inside plenty of prisons......that's a good place for them. The very idea of them living year after year after year would never bring closure. They still get to go outside and breath enjoy the sunshine and eat 3x a day and sleep and dream....something their victim(s) would never do again. |
