Did a brick workout this morning. Did a 45 min spin class that felt really good. Wore my heart monitor and was in my zone the whole class. My average was 154. I also ran 2 miles just to get use to the heavy leg feel. Also felt pretty good on the run. My average heartrate was 158.

Hitting the pool again tomorrow to continue with my swim program. Last session of the week til I increase my distance next week.

Hey michlmead.

Why no tri's in Ohio. Just asking. Cleveland Tri doesn't interest you.

Going way out on a limb... SteelHead has spots for Worlds in Clearwater, Fla - it's also a flatter bike course and the swim is point to point w/ the current. Would like to TRI and get to Fla
That's my plan! I believe in aiming high... Ultimate long term goal is Kona - Would love to to be an IronMan!!! Still very green - but determined

Mickey Ryzmek - is the Race Director for Cleveland 1/2 IM - He puts on a GREAT race!! Will be there to volunteer and support.

Did more Cleveland & Ohio races last year - like to change things up a bit!

I'm very excited. I start my swimming lessons today. I put on my swim suit first thing this morning even though my class doesn't start until after lunch.

I just put on my new swim hat. And I hate hate HATE it. It squeezes my head so tight I get a headache in a few minutes.

I'm thinking about one of those retro ones with the chin strap.
http://www.headcovers.com/moreinfo.php?id=402

I know it's not the cool aerodynamic thing, but honestly, if it isn't comfortable, I won't wear it.

Will it make that much difference what swim cap I wear?

The main reason to wear a cap is to keep heat in - most competition pools are cool - around 78 degrees - as soon as I stop swimming - I freeze. The rec center wear I train is very warm 81-82 - almost too hot to workout sometimes - The cap also protects my hair (I'm blonde don't like to be green, from Cholrine) I would personally not wear any of the caps from the link you sent -I would ask the swim coach if she has an extra one - most do - with long hair - the googles will pull you hair out.

Here's the type most Tri's use... they are cheap and they give them away at races - You must wear one @ a race they will usually color code for your swim wave. (IE all women get yellow, masters men Blue)

http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/2873.htm

Get used to the latex now - cause you won't have a choice on race day :-) Sorry!!
NO RETRO - not cool

Have Fun Swimming!! Give us a report!!

OK. I just got back from swim class.

1. I don't hate the hat as much when I learned it will stretch.

2. The hat does not keep my head dry, though most of the time it will keep the water out of my ears. I, too, am a blond, and I don't want green hair. There must be a way to remedy this.

3. The chorline has made my skin dry, flakey and itchy. I'm wondering if I should put vaseline on BEFORE I get into the pool to try to seal my skin before I go in.

4. I think goggles are the best invention ever.

Guys pay no attention - hair tips - I put some conditioner on my hair before I swim - helps to seal the color keeps the green away!! Dry skin is tough - I just load up with moisterizer after I get out of the shower n I use vasaline if I'm running in extreme cold on my face - but have never used it in the pool.

How was the lesson??

It's freezing in Ohio - going to be -10 or colder w/ wind chill - I have a swim class Sunday AM - not looking forward to the cold pool - glad I do not have to run - just have weights & core after swiming - short 30 min bike!

My hair is naturally blond. No "color" to seal in. Only the sun bleached parts get really green. But I will try the conditioner thing anyway. I was thinking of an oil like Vo5.

I'm also curious how to get rid of the chorline smell off my skin. It's horrible even after I shower.

I am seeing what a challenge this will be. I stayed after class and did 5 laps kicking and arming my way across the pool. (Since that's the only swim skill I have at this point.) I think it will be easier when I know how to breathe. Right now I must stop half way and breathe. It was still tiring, but having the goggles made it much less scary than I remember swimming to be.

A swimmer told me after you shower - that usually gets rid of the cholrine smell on your skin- what you are smelling is actually in your nose. It does go away after a while - it was worse for me when I started in December - don't even really notice it any more

P: Better faster streamlined - no hair - make sure you shave those legs too

It's Hot - ask any roadie/tri chick... and if you go down on the bike - you'll be glad you did it (does not really make you go faster, urban legend)

Hey folks, it's been pretty quiet on the group this week. What's been going on with you?

I've been trying to get my workouts in, while prepping for our annual 'boyz trip' snowmobiling out in Steamboat Springs Colorado. I'll be leaving this Friday and won't be back till the next Saturday. No swimmin', or bikin' for 10 days....only sledding, fishing and a little running at high altitude (8k ft).

I hope you're all hangin' in there and are getting in the pool.

Hi all!

I've been quiet for some time, but still reading your posts and logging my training.

S:My confidence on the swimming is bit low, don't see much progress on my crawl performance. Still struggling with the breathing when I try to alternate sides, don't get enought air.
B: On saturday I jumped on the mountainbike for the first time since summer, and it felt better than expected. 33Km on road at a 20Km/h pace (Vienna is quite flat!).
R:Still have to wear my running shoes again. I was playing indoor-soccer on monday, so I hope that counts a bit!

Now I´m on a 19-day working streak, with not much time to train, but trying to find it!!

Nice to hear about your achievements in the pool. I also want to bring good news after my next try in the water (tomorrow).

Impressive to imbrase the cold. We are 100 miles south and I know what it feels like here. To cold for me to run outside. Treadmill day for me.

It hasn't been above 7 degrees here in MN for the last week! Have yet to run on a treadmill this winter. Yuck.

Have you tried 'warmskin'?

I'm the opposite. I only want to run on the treadmill in the summer when it's 5,000 degrees outside. It's beautiful here now: 50's and 60's. Alas, it will be gone by April.
