That's no good!  What kind of funk?  Time to switch up your routine a bit and try some new stuff?

X2, Mina.  I was in one last week myself, James.  Cold weather led to me not being able to train (Y was even closed) and me not making the Ironman challenge - again!  I just decided to take the whole week off.

For me, the month of February is all about doing something completely different.  I'm still going to do a little spinning, swimming and biking, but I'm taking some pilates and kickboxing at the Y and just getting out of tri-training mode for a month.  'Cause come March, I'll be hitting it hard.

Let us know if there's anything we can do.

In my other group we've got different challenges each week in the month of Feb.  One this week is to try some new training - a new class or video or whatever.  It doesn't have to be anything fancy, maybe even just a single strength move.   Last week I did Zumba for the first time, so that's out... hmmm, I'll have to think of something soon!  Maybe you can't get it in this week, but are there any training genres or classes you folks have been dying to try?

And, like you Lora, I just missed on the Ironman challenge this month for the 2nd time, too!  I could have axed some plans and doubled up at the end, but my body really wanted to do other things and then I really needed to take Saturday off.  But, I don't want to give up on it!  I'd like to see how long it'll take me to finish - another week probably-- I hope not more than that.  Last time I just quit, but this time I'd like to say I finished it.

That's not like you James. Is it all those sleepless nights with the new bub? That can take its toll. Knowing you I know you will bounce right back.

Maybe that is what it is... I am not sure. I know that the number of hours has not drastically changed, but getting woke up every few hours is not the same as sleeping continuously.

I know I will snap out of it sometime, I think I just need to sign up and pay for a race so I do not have that "what am I doing this for?" mentality!

I think that is probably the best idea - we all seem to get sidetracked if we don't have something to work towards.   Broken sleep is the worst kind I reckon and it doesn't seem to matter how much you try and make up for it you body clock just doesn't like it.

James - you being in a "funk" is still better than me being in a "non-funk"!  Sometimes life (and our bodies) tell us to take a break.  Just look at it as a chance to recover and refresh.  As for signing up for something...that is what really gets me going.  I tend to work better under pressure and having that deadline really works to my favor.

Michelle - man, that is some heat down there!  Kudos for keeping up with the training.  I realized this winter (my first winter to really try to continue a training program) that I don't like the cold and can't wait for the warm/hot weather.

We got a warm up the last couple days.  40 yesterday and 50 today.  Finally got to run outside and I felt like I'd just escaped from prison.  I sooooo needed it.

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if we have made it to your news over there but we are being devastated by bush fires right now. A huge portion of our state is burning out of control and we have had at least 50 confirmed deaths - it is just so tragic.

Email alerts and news reports on Friday were saying that we needed to be prepared for a day worse than Ash Wednesday (our worst fires on record) and it has surpassed any expectations of just how horrific it is.

Yesterday was very eerie as we had smoke clouds over our house blocking out the sun and the wind was gale force with the temp around 120 degrees so hot winds.

We also had a wind change that turned the sides of the fires into fronts that were just so overwhelming they had to pull out all fighters and just use the bombers.

Today is much cooler but the fires are still right out of control. I ran this morning at the dam wall because the bushland I usually run in is very dense and just ripe for some idiot to go in and light a fire. The fire bombers were flying in to get water to bomb nearby fires.

Yesterday is a day I won't forget anytime soon. The last time I felt such a sense of impending doom and devastation was watching the Twin Towers attacks - it is very sombre here indeed.

Ran today - did 25k - it hurt like hell but that's about all the energy I have for it today.

Sorry to sound so gloomy - think I just need to have a big cry!

Michelle, sorry to hear the news, especially up to 50 deaths.  News here is saying 25 so I guess they haven't gotten the most recent news.  Either way it is very tragic.  I will pray for your family's safety and everyone else.

Thanks boys, we are about 20km away from two of the major fire fronts and as I mentioned the wind was good to us - had it gone in the opposite direction we were in the firing line. Choppers are going overhead all day accessing the reservoir here.  It is very ugly; 640 houses have been lost with 550 in one town alone and the fatalaties are rising all the time as they are able to get into the burnt out areas. They are finding whole families in burnt out cars trying to get away - it is just tragic. The areas that normally people were able to stand and fight they just had no hope and they got caught out.   This is going to be one sad week. We are safe and it doesn't look like we will be in any danger unless something new starts up but they are saying we have seen the last of the 40plus days for this summer (fingers crossed).

The most terrifying this is half these things are deliberately lit - what get's into some peoples heads??!!!

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes xxx

Hey, Michelle.  I have been thinking of you and wondered if it was anywhere near you.  I'm glad to hear you've been out of the fire's path.  It is horrific about the deaths.  I totally don't get the idiots who would intentionally do this.

You're definitely in my prayers.

I found this website.  It's like youtube for sports.  There is a category for triathletes and takes you to nothing but triathlon related videos.  Lots of good stuff about all 3 sports and tips on transitions.  I tend to learn stuff better when I can visualize it, so this really helps me.  Enjoy!

I just got notification about a week ago and just put it on my blog a few days ago.

I'm really, really excited about it, especially since I've decided to train for a HIM, I'll definitely be using a boatload of their product this season.

I can't believe I got an offer, but you never know with these sponsorships...
