Bill - you are crazy!

Well I think I am officially back from the dead.  I pushed myself through a run this morning and felt a 100 times better after I finished.  I missed my swim this morning but I wanted to start back easy and I have master's practice tomorrow AM.  So I'll try to get on the bike tonight for a short spin.

Of course, I've dropped about 5 lbs. since Monday which is what I've wanted to do since I started all this training.  So it will be sad to see it go back on when I start eating and drinking again.  :-(

And I am very excited about the weekend here - 60-70s and mostly sunny.  Spring is almost here.  YEAH!!!!  First big race in 2 weeks.  I keep telling myself I can do a sub 2 hour 1/2 marathon.

Loving the forecast here, too.  Low of 60, high of 80, and sunshine.

What's your personal best half mary time so far?  Looking at some of your training run times, it's certainly well within your reach.  It can be a funny thing though.  My personal best came in Pensacola when I was just doing it because I was down there and needed something to do.  At one I ran in January, I was aiming to go below 2:10 for the first time and ran a 2:21.  There are just so many different things that can have and effect on your time that are really out of your control on race day.  You've done well at what you could control, which is your training.  I'm putting my money on you

And hey, no matter what... I've heard Shamrock is a seriously fun race.

Well I've only done one half marathon and that was Shamrock last year.  It was my first attempt at any kind of distance running ever in my life.  There was a reason I played defense on my field hockey team and took great pleasure in picking off the little skinny wings when they tried to come into my territory.  LOL

That said I finished in 2 hr. 19m w/ plenty of gas.  Ok so 20min. faster a year later may seem crazy but I did the first part of the Baltimore marathon Oct. 08 (before the insane hills) in about 2 hr. 6m and I ran a hilly 12K this past Feb. at a 9m pace.  And Shamrock is as flat as a pancake and I had plenty left last year.  So I'm hoping the stars align.  If not, that will clear the way for me to try the Goofy Challenge at Disney next year b/c I know I will be nowhere near a BQ time yet.

I know I'm not winning any running races in my lifetime so I need to set goals that make me reach and push like I am winning the race.  Not sure if that makes sense but it satisfies my competitive nature.

Samantha - glad to hear you are feeling better!

Bill - I have no patience.  I want pictures, and I want them now!  Wink

I am thinking about trying a 5K in a couple of weeks.  Want to bet Sam's half mary time is faster?!?

Don't be silly!  Definitely do the 5k and get some practice.  There's nothing like a race to get your legs moving.  That said I'm on the verve of freaking out about my swim times.  I keep telling myself it's still early and I have a good 3 months to get a little faster.  But I'd sure hate to miss the swim cutoff in June.  That would suck!  I guess I'll have to think about a shark swimming after me.

Cue the Jaws music...

Don't freak out.  You have plenty of swim workouts between now and June.

I will probably do the 5K, just so I know I can do the distance.  Timing-wise it fits nicely into my training plan as the last long run before a recovery week, so I don't have a good excuse not to.

Do it!  Local 5ks are fun.  If they are anything like the ones we have around here, they are real low key and cheap.  Just treat it like a fully supported training day.

I'm very confident that in three months you will have no problem maintaining a 3:18 / 100 yard pace for 1.2 miles.  You are below three minutes/100 for a 500 yard swim already, you'll have a wetsuit on, and you've got three months to work towards it.  The even better news is that it's not really like running in that to go longer you have to incrementally train longer.   It's technique driven, and you're going to have an "aha!" moment (as long as you stick with it), and your distance and pace will come down dramatically.

With all this talk of running - Thanks! You've all inspired me to try out my first 5k I just signed up to do the Shamrock Run on 3/15... It'll be good to see just how slow I really am...

Oh yah, recently a friend paid back a loan I made him, coupled with some crafty savings I just dropped dough on a new bike. Was gonna build it myself, but don't have the time... I'll have fun swapping out parts over time on this one. so Bike Pr0N soon.

A couple years ago I encountered my first shark in the wild on a sailing trip with my sis to BVI. It was swimming away from us about 15 feet below so wasn't tooo scary. The pair of 5+ foot barracuda we ran into about 30 minutes later however were... Barracuda make me swim very fast indeed.

I saw a PT on Tuesday...I am beginning to add inserts to my right shoe.  So far I have added 1mm.  No problems so far.

She is starting me on a 10 week beginner running program.   If I have any pain or soreness during or after the run I need to drop back a level.  This is really going to slow down training.

I know it's tough to hear, and sometimes even rah rah encouragement can get old, but it's still true that slow, safe training will get you there faster than no/injured non-training.  You've always seemed like the type of person that finds the silver lining in everything and have had a fantastic attitude.  I know you'll tackle this.

I am fine with, but if is a little disappointing to be thrown so far off my intended training schedule...the good news is that different leg length has no effect on swimming, nor is it an issue with biking.

I definitely know to take it slow and easy.  That is why I did no running last month (except the 2.5 mile race that I took nice and easy.  As soon as there was pain I stopped.

I learned the consequences of runing when injured back in HS when I developed stress fractures in both femors.    It was more than 8 years before I started running again.

Clydesdale

Clydesdale - the 56cm surly lht touring bike I have been training on that weighs a metric TON, but rides like a comfy cadillac.

Ruby Rhod

Age Grouper - meet my svelte new boyfriend... 56cm cervelo p1, still dialing in the fit, seat is main issue currently, but we'll see what crops up after a 40+ miler - still need behind seat bottle cages and computer bar (currently no where to mount the garmin so i've been wearing in my wrist - not ideal).

Was hoping to get in a 40 odd mile ride today, but the weather is not cooperating and the *S* word is in the forecast... BOO! Thinking about a swim instead.

Ooh Kiri, I am a little bit envious.

I guess that I have a special relationship with my bike...I have had it since I was thirteen...a diamondback sorento.

It has been well loved (in a tough love sort of way).  Someday I will get a new bike, but it isn't going to be anytime soon.

I decided to head outside for my ride today - it was looking sunny and clear.

30 mins in, the temperature plummeted and it started snowing hard!  I kept going for a bit and then decided to turn around because it looked like it was going to start sticking to the path.

The way back was hell.  It alternated between raining, hailing and snowing.  The only bike shoes I have are tri shoes, designed to keep your feet cool... let's just say that worked.   My feet were freezing wet blocks of ice and my face was stinging from getting pelted with the hail...

Then I got home and realized I had forgotten to bring a house key, and my wife had left and locked the door.  I had my phone but wife didn't have hers... So I sat outside in the freezing rain for about 20 mins until our landlord happened to come by with a spare key.

Despite all that, it was kind of fun in a strange way. The shower definitely felt good...

More of the insanity today...roads are bare and wet...two minutes later there is half an inch of snow pellets...5 accidents in one mile and cars all over the place...within ten minutes it was bare and wet again.

First time i've tried the quattros so far so good, i'm a big fan of CB pedals tho, and have them on all my bikes - it's nice being able to wear one shoe / one cleat for every pedal! Not to mention the walkability of the shoes.
