charlotte hobbs - 2010-03-07 11:43 AM i just finished a half marathon.  i think my time will be about 5 to 10 minutes faster than last year's half marathon.

Nice Job! I guess we should all try and work extra hours prior to our races. I find that the more tired and beat down I am sometimes is when I get the best workouts, go figure. I like to believe its determination or some other motivating force that kicks in but, my wife says I'm just stubborn.

Well after a week off, I think I may be healed.  I really hope so.  It's frustrating being injured.  I am just going to take it easy.  How is everyone else doing?  We had an awesome weekend weather wise here, and I got out and ran tonight.  It felt good.  Hopefully winter is behind us and the weather motivates everyone.  Have a good week.

For those keeping track at home, we have 2 more finishers of the IM Challenge, skymedx and scogz1.  I don't know who finished first, but congrats to you both.  There are also a couple of more of you that are really close.  Keep it up.

What's your best choice for wear under the wetsuit?

In the summer I just wear my tri suit.  In early season races, I just wear my tri bottoms and put on my top out of the water.

I also getting excited about the weather getting better. Nice to get out a blow your winter stink off running down the street. I agree the injured are frustrated. This is the first week I have two 3 mile runs in without my IT band bothering me, only took 4 months but whos counting. The problem is now that it's feeling better how to not push to hard too soon and get re-injured.

Calf pains--seems like every once in a while the pain in my calf returns--do my stretching, use the stick but it keeps giving me that nagging pain-what do you do for calf stretching?  Maybe I need a new angle!

Lots of patience!!!!!!!!  After injuring both achilles tendons I had to make a conservative run plan and just stick with it.  I was off the run for way too long!  I'm not saying its easy to hold back but whats the alternative?  For me..I want to be tri'ing for the long run.  It helps to keep that in mind!

Wow got a huge case of spring fever going on here  today.  Sunshine and almost 60 for the forecast today.
Last night I got my bike re-fitted by someone who actually knows what he's doing and picked up my new team kit which is wicked cool!  I can't wait to get out of work today and get the bike out on the road to test the new configuration.
Had a great run last night. Hope to have a great ride to back that up.
Have a great day everybody!

I wear my tri top and bottom under my wetsuit when racing. I have found it quite a PITA to try and put a tri top on when wet. The pockets can not add to drag when they are under the wetsuit

We are about to get 3 days of rain, but next week is supposed to get up into the high 50's.

I am going to a swim clinic this morning.   Some of the other group members were supposed to join me, but backed out.  (a little guilt trip).  I will report back on all the good tips I get.  Have good day.

Well I missed the swim clinic with our fearless leader, but I did get in the pool today for 1300 yds.   Was supposed to be 1500 yds but all those flip turns got me dazed and confused and what I thought were 300's, turned out to be 150's!  Doh!  I need a lap counter!

We missed you, but we will do it again.  Someone told me to have a pile of pennies at the pool and make a separate pile for every lap.

Is anyone else waterlogged?  We got 6 inches of rain the past day and half and it's not supposed to stop until tomorrow.  It's a good thing there was no snow on the ground.  Makes it kind of difficult to do any biking or running outside.  I can swim in my neighbor's front yard now.

I should be going for a run right now but it is so cold and wet and miserable that I am going to skip it today.  I feel chilled to the bone.  Of course the sun is scheduled to come out when I'm at work!   I did get a great swim in yesterday and 90 mminutes on the trainer this AM so I can't feel sooo bad.

so im curious what everyone thinks about the fact that spinning isn't considered bike time for training in the BT log.

i understand spinning isn't a substitute for time on a bike, but if you can't ride for whatever particular reason, shouldn't it at least count towards your tri training time?

maybe im biased as until i get my bike, spinning is all i have, but ive been trying to go as frequently as i can (5 of my last 7 days this week) and i KNOW im building muscle and conditioning my body for those longer rides later this year....my legs feel great.

just curious what the more experienced tri-ers in the group think...

Says who?  I log it as bike time.  I entered the spin bike under bike equipment and just select that bike when I spin.  Try it, it's easy.

I hate spinning, but when I do it, i log it as bike time as well. (personally i think it should count double as it causes so much mental anguish). Trainer time is included as bike time too.

So the injury bug keeps on biting.  Looks like I have a hernia and need surgery.  Kind of sucks big time.  I just can't stay not injured for more than a coupe of days this year.  It's driving me crazy.  I hope I am getting everything out of the way early in the year.  I have an appt with the surgeon on Thursday, so I will know more then.

so sorry to hear it, josh!

the good news is there's PLENTY of time before you're inside that 20-week window where you should be training like its your job.  you should be healed up and rebuilding any base you lost with time to spare.

keep us updated.
