ladylucky - 2010-04-14 9:52 PM Today I ran for 26 min and 4,3 K. It was a great run, felt good and I was suprised that it was 4,3K.
My race on Sunday will probably give me a PB on 5K. Cool

Good luck in your race tomorrow Mia!

EmbarassedLOL, I did not run my race today, because it was yesterday.Laughing

I had looked at the wrong day so I just did a 5.5K run around my neighborhood instead.

32:17 was a pretty good time for that run I think.

Sounds like something I would do, Mia!  Glad you had a good run anyway.

So I gotta say, there is really something perverse about all of this triathlon stuff.  I can't believe I went out in the rain, and enjoyed a run that was almost more of a swim.  Or that the "that girl is nuts!" looks I got from people driving by pushed me more than anything else during mile three...

Thunk.

That's the sound of me bringing conversation to a screetching halt.  Smile

OK Seriously, how goes it this week, Manatees?

The week just started, but for me everything is good so far.
I have my heaviest week with a lot of longer training sessions this week.

Congratulations on the tri

And good luck with the heavy training week. One day at a time!

My week, so far, has been completely insane. My life is often like this. I'm going to try to get more than one bike in this week. No problem getting runs in--me and the Labradogs go to the beach every night around midnight and I'm either actually run-running or briskly walking.

Yanti, I have been meaning to ask -- what's the deal with the new sponsorship?  What does that mean, exactly?  And whatever it means, I know it means they think you are a pretty awesome ambassador for the sport, so GO YOU.

It means I get an unlimited supply of Powerade Isotonik this year, that I show up at some events they sponsor and hand the stuff out, and that I get my race fees to any Indonesian races paid for. Which is great, because triathlons and road races aren't any less expensive here. I'm kind of tempted now just to enter a boatload of races for fun, but unfortunately I'm responsible for my own travel off the island.

Oh, and it's great because I'm really, really, really sick of Pocari Sweat and I hate the taste. It tastes pretty much like it sounds. ECCCCCHHHHH!!! We don't have all the froo-froo fancy sports drinks here ... and whatever there is, is expensive. I'm pretty happy with Powerade Isotonik because it's similar in composition to Gatorade Endurance which is what I trained with in the States.

It's in my sig line because I'm proud of it, because I'm SUPPOSED to represent , and because BT requires you to disclose in your sig line any affiliation you have with the fitness or health industry.

I'd love to say I scored the sponsorship because I'm so awesome, but it's actually because my sister gets them to sponsor any sports events she puts on (she's an event promoter/race director/concert producer/you name it), and she got them to sponsor me, too.

A Heineken sponsorship is looking likely, too, which is kind of hilarious because I don't drink (although one of my Labs LOVES the stuff). And that one I did score on my own by schmoozing the head of Heineken here in Bali (it's a party island, so alcohol people are a big deal here). Not sure what else they'd be able to do for me, though, since it's not like they'd pay me. Any suggestions?

Yanti, if you get sponsored by a sports drink AND a beer at the same time, I think you just won. Like, won life.

Mia, sorry to hear about your calendar malfunction!

Hope everyone's week is going well. I've been training in fits and starts. Running is starting to move from Miserable to just Kinda Dull, so that's something I guess.

It's gonna be a helluva week coming up -- lots of schoolwork and workwork to do ahead of time 'cause I'm going to Japan in 8 days! (Meant to do it over xmas break, but at that time my household had come down with a case of "the economy." Visiting a college buddy who now lives/works in Tokyo)

Won life. Heh. I'm here right at this moment--that's "won life" to me. Bonus, and miracle, that I'm in one piece.

Now I have GOT to get that sponsorship ... the Heineken guy was so thrilled my Lab loved the beer ... it involved a lot of drunk people at a restaurant opening. Anyhow.

TOOOOOOOOOOOKYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I think I'm turning Japanese I think I'm turning Japanese I really think so!!!

I am VERY excited for you. Is this your first trip to Asia? I love Tokyo. Hey, did you know there are beer vending machines on nearly every street corner???

I looove sushi and sashimi and Japanese gardening and interior design.

Hope you will have a wonderful time there.

It is my first trip to Asia! (Unless you count Russia as Asia, but it's my first trip to east Asia, anyway.

Yeah, I oughta be paying back student debt with the money instead, but if I wait till I'm financially solvent I'll be waiting until I'm dead. Also, can't beat free lodging AND free tour-guiding from an experienced expat and a native speaker. (I do remember a tiny bit of my college Japanese...

SO is jealous, but he had his chance already -- he did an exchange program with a Japanese kid when he was in 8th grade. Also, we've agreed that if I ever do an Ironman, he gets to pick where, so we can make a vacation out of it. Right now IM Japan and IM Austria are at the top of his dream IM list!

Hello all, busy week finally over and only two more workout sessions left this week. Today I'll swim for 35 min and on Sunday I'll run for 45 min.

You know what, Wednesday I ran with my husband and I told him to pick a comfortable pace for him and that I would try to keep up. It was slow and nice for him and more like a race for me. :-)

So we ran 5.5K (3.42 mi) in 31:26. That is my fastest time ever. If I calculate it down to a 5K it is 28:45 and that is almost 30 s (27 s to be exact) faster than my old PB for a 5K. :D

Great improvement, Mia! I love reading about you getting better and better every week!

Stupid question, for the veterans... if you're at a tri alone and no one's there to hold your stuff (or they're coming later), what do you do with very essential items like your car keys and wallet?

I stuff them in the bottom of my tri bag. Most transition areas are well guarded, and a lot of the other triathletes are doing this. Plus, NOBODY wants to fish around in the bottom of someone else's nasty tri stuff ... yep.

DO NOT bring a key with you. It will wind up in the pit of a port-a-let. Trust me on this.

How's everyone doing??? Weekend? I did a big OWS with the Labradoggies this morning.

I take what I have to out of my wallet, put it in a ziploc bag and leave the wallet in the car.  Like Yanti, I keep the key in my tri bag.

Hi everyone
Haven't made any progress at my end... did finally get out for a run on Friday morning but had to stop 20 minutes in as came across little old lady collapsed with head injury and fracture doctoring took precedence over training, and I guess her day was more screwed than mine!
Hey I've just discovered I can get Garmins here... was thinking of getting one of the forerunner models.. what do people think of them?

Oh, thats a little scary to deal with on your run. Good for her that you came around, being a doctor.

Today I did a 5K and most of the course was on grass, so I was sloooow. I had expected to run it in 28 min, but did it in 31:28. But it was a good race and for a first year they had a great organization and plenty of people around the course to help out.
There was over 300 people running. So a good crowd too.

The best part was after the finish line you got PB&J sandwiches, water and bananas. I wish every race had as good snacks as these.

Good thing you were at the right place and the right time, Dr. ! As for the Forerunner, I have the 405, it's the round one and I've had it 2 years. I do like it and that it's smaller than the 205 and 305 versions. I also have just the 50 that doesn't have the GPS capability. I don't like or use it as much, actually hardly at all. I've had a few minor issues with the 405 but I love the way you can download your workouts to the computer and it's very easy to import into the BT logs as well. I'm not very technically savvy either, so if I can figure it out, anyone can.

Congrats on your run Mia!! Love the PB/J and PB and honey too!

FYI -- I'm running a marathon tomorrow! It will be my second one and I felt really good today on my little 20 minute loosening up jog. I'm driving up to the marathon site (about 90 minutes away) later today, am staying at the local hotel and will just be able to walk to the start, which is great. I'll be at the expo for a bit getting my race packet. Now to manage the mind....ah, yes, the mind.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Lynn, a hearty congrats on a great Marathon!

Melyssa, see your running is not only good for you, it's good for those in your path.  In all seriousness, glad you were able to help that poor collapsed woman.  Definitely the right choice -- almost goes without saying, but I will say it anyway!  You rock.

Well Manatees, this weekend is the moment of truth for me:  my first tri!  Will be sure to post a race report ASAP.   I just hope, hope, hope I am ready for this!
