look at the map I posted on satellite view. Theres a road that goes around the newest office building there that the trolleys use. if you take that left it will loop you around to the waterway pointing towards the mall (via the waterway)

Has anyone heard about the swim start?
I'm kinda hoping it's a mass start, just because I've never experienced the 'washing machine' but I don't think there's enough room in that lake for that type of start.
Maybe a TT start like IMKY? I foresee some serious clogging in the canal if it's anything other than a TT start.

The canal part is at the very end so folks will be pretty spread out by then.

All run course talk, which is good.
What about bike course?
As predicted?
From what I saw on someones map not much elevation gain for a 112 mile ride. Concur?

About as flat as they make them, the biggest climb is about 100' in two miles. A joke. The trick with this race is going to be remaining calm on the bike to conserve energies for the marathon, it will be too easy to feel like Superman after T1 and start pushing 25mph splits, only to pay later with a walk-a-thon.

Correct, you won't run down the stairs, but cross the road on the bridge, and then loop onto the trolley path

So, what does the people in the thread feel about the WTC fiasco with Ironman Access and the disastrous inaugural 70.3 in Miami?

the inaugural imtx will not be anywhere close to disastrous. keith has been the race director for longhorn and lonestar, both IM 70.3's (and that's just down here...he's the director for many more) and they've all been top notch. from what i've read on the miami race, it was a debauchery...nothing to fear here though...with keith in the mix.

Syracuse 70.3 was a first time event this year and it was run perfectly.

IMTX will run like clockwork.

1) Keith is the RD and his races are awesome!
2) Great tri community is Houston that won't allow a clusterf**k.
3) IMTX, in its first year, is the North American IM Championship event.  It's worth the second most points in the new IM/WTC point system and it has the second largest pro purse - both the points and the money are second to Kona.  Expect a deep, deep pro field.  It isn't going to be some Mickey Mouse half-a**ed event.

Looking for a tune-up HIM to be ready for IMTX.  Tall Texan down in Boerne looks like the timing might be right.  Has anyone done this event in the past?  Any opinions, or better options?

Thanks,
Steve

The Texas 70.3 (formerly Lonestar) in Galveston is 6 weeks earlier.  KJ is the RD for that one as well.

I have read race reports on the event.  I sounds like it has a cold swim, tough bike and nice run.  I like the timing as well and I am considering it.  I would love to do a race in that area because it is so nice.  Lots of people are doing lonestar, but I would like something further out and less money.

how do we feel about the two events you listed in general.. Or do we feel there is a connection to them with IMTX.

there are many threads in tri talk and the IM fourm about how people felt.

Connection to IMTX? it in no way has anything to do with IMTX.    IMTX has an experienced, well respected RD that has been doing this a while.   Comparing two races with totally different RD's is at completely different locations is next to impossible

WOW, Gary is right AGAIN!

Keith has put on so many races, he KNOWS how to put on a proper race in heat and humidity. No worries on IMTX.

Barring a MAJOR disaster, you can be be damn sure Keith isn't going to let bike or aid stations run out of water or Perform.

I thought I read where Greg Penninton of out loud is helping with the volunteers.  I know his races have always been well run as well.

as posters have said you can't really compare the two.  My opinions are below....

Tall Texan - First 1/2 I ever did in '04 and it kicked my butt.  If you really want a challenge it is the race to do - not many racers (only 60 last year), lightly supported, you are really on your own - extremely tough up and down bike.   It skipped a year or two and came back last year with a new race director and I have not seen any feedback on the event.  I have been wanting to get back to it and do it again, but I don't need the butt kicking too close to IMTX.  Maybe in 2012...

Galveston 70.3 - well you probably have seen the Kieth Lovefest going on here, he puts on great races and the only issues i have ever faced in Galveston are with the Winds - I hear Kieth is working on that....

Hey guys,

Here is a write-up from the guy who does the Computrainer videos on the IMTX bike course.  They did the filming on Sunday:  http://rcvman.blogspot.com/2010/11/texas-wrap.html

Enjoy!

I never talked about a "connection" to IM Texas, I'm asking the people in the thread on how they feel about it. Period. I think IM Access eroded the IM brand by taking away some of the mistique and making it look like a money making machine. I understand profit and free market, but Ironman is already getting enough from our entry fees to put out a good race and make some pretty decent money.
Consider that they're getting paid a WHOLE YEAR in advance to put the race together. I'd like to get a nice experience in exchange, like I did in Ironman Arizona.
Agree?
