Master 2094 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up My build week last week killed me. Between my pulled groin, sore foot and neck tightness I have been hobbling around. To make matters worse, work has been very busy. I broke away at lunch after 2 emergencies and went to the pool. It was bad enough that I was planning on doing speedwork in my board shorts, but when I got to the pool I was informed that they were putting in a new filter system. I am happy they are switching to saline but not happy the work was being done today. Planning on a long bike ride tomorrow if the weather holds out. It doesn't look promising |

Fridays have been longer continuous sets with intervals. Maria gets creative on Fridays. Also it's pretty much always long course. |

Extreme Veteran 603 Glasgow, UK | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Pretty busy training week, we're on week three of a 4 week periodisation (next week is recovery) and I've made most sessions this week so I'm pretty tired now. The weekend looks like it's shaping up well and I'll be getting out on a ride with a couple of freinds from the club so more time on the bike should mean a better tolerance. All in all it's going well! |

Extreme Veteran 849 San Diego | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Haven't had the best week of training. My neck is really sore like something's misaligned. I'm going to the chiro (even though I think a lot of them are crap this one is pretty good) tonight for an adjustment, so I hope that helps. I'd like to get back in the pool. This morning I woke up crazy early and ran the hardest 10 miles of my life, up down and all around Black Mountain. It was seriously harder than any marathon I've ever done and it was only 10 miles! Now I want to do it again soon. This weekend I'm going to do another trail run on Saturday (a shorter version of today's run) and then a super hilly bike ride on Sunday. It's only 42 miles but has nearly 5000 feet of climbing. I'm going to be tired on Monday! I wore my extra special work clothes today: capri yoga pants with compression socks and a race t. Looking gooooood! What's on tap for you all this weekend? |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Sorry I wasn't as active this past few days. Was worrying about the race (kind of hard when you are focusing on your daughter's entire race). She did great (both of us got 1st AG) and had a nice article written about her in the paper as the youngest competitor. I put it in my logs. I hope you all got some great work in this weekend and that injuries and weather are turning for the better. Lets have a check in from everyone. PS Gladiator, one of the best threads on the active Georgia board is the marathon advice thread. Read natnegativesplit's advice there for some excellent advice! PSS 2 for 2 in age group. I am also down 12lbs in 8 days on MET. (notclyde.JPG) Attachments ---------------- notclyde.JPG (56KB - 14 downloads) |

Master 2094 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Congrats on a great race and condolances on getting your azz kicked in the pool by your daughter. There is a lot of raw talent fron the college kids at these races. It is interesting to see how some of the competitors have elite speed but drop a few places by spending way too much time in transition. Transition is the easiest place to save time. You have to swim countless laps, run and ride countless miles to save a couple of minutes but only an hour or two of transition practice could save you a couple of minutes at race time. |

Veteran 169 Falls Church VA | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Nice racing Slayer. Its got to be a great feeling having your kids taking after you. Im finally back in VA, hardware is sold off, so its time to ramp the training back up. Hoping for some good news and some magic hands from the chiropractor this afternoon. Knee has been feeling pretty good lately, weather is starting to get nice, so its time to start a steady diet of miles. Hope everyone has a good Monday. |

Regular 135 Spokane | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Nice race Slayer. I hope my kids will want to do triathlons one day also. You must be a proud Dad!! On another note, I did yoga last night for the first time in months. It seemed to really help my run today. I felt really relaxed the whole time. I don't know. Maybe it does help. |

Veteran 222 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Gladiador - 2012-03-02 11:26 PM Any special suggestions for my marathon race? I'm traveling the week after next one... p.s. never done marathon race yet Sorry for the late entry here. Work, life getting in the way. I guess you are tapering now. Last speed workout this week, and a medium long run on the weekend coming up (18 - 19K). Hydrate well during the week leading up to the race. Carbo load Friday night before the race (if the race is a Sunday). Keep looks on Saturday with a short 3-4K easy run. Hopefully you have tested your nutrition during your training and have tried the electrolytes they provide on the course so that there is nothing new on race day. Get your best sleep two nights before (you won't sleep the night before). Get there early so that you are relaxed and can take care of business before the race. Prepare the night before by laying out your attire and nutrition products. Remember your bib and timing chip. Plan the journey to the start line and do a bit of a warm up before the start (some ABC's and a light easy job). Enjoy the atmosphere. It's your first so a PB for sure. Enjoy the crowds and volunteers. Thank the volunteers as you pass them during the race. Cross the finish line with a smile and you will be a marathoner. |

Veteran 169 Falls Church VA | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Big day yesterday for me. Went to PT and got worked over. Seems like some past injuries from a car accident are creeping back into the picture. Hip isnt working exactly how its supposed to, which is messing with the ITB and quad. But I left feeling the best I have in the last couple months. Got on the bike after and still felt good. Needless to say, Im in a pretty good mood today. With my new optimistic attitude, Im starting to think about hats for Eagleman. Ive never worn one running (or a visor), but Im thinking with the heat that the course brings I should probably look into one. So does anyone have a preferred hat? Or ones that they hated? |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up yoga haha. i did that pilates the other day. not really into it but i can see how it might help to be more limber and relaxed. good advice for Gladiator, Rich. Thanks ! I would go easy on the carboload just so you dont have a carbo unload but everything is spot on. glad the PT helped, vibratingp00! if really hot, i'd be wearing a light colored lightweight headsweat hat. perhaps arm coolers as it gets nasty there i'm told. hope you can get some quality training in before the event. still waiting on some check ins. lets not lose too much momentum everyone. havent heard from some of you in over a week! |

Master 2094 | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up I'm suffering down in Orlando. No real working ot at all. I have had an issue with plantar fascitis that has hurt my running. As far as a running cap for Eagleman, I would start without one and the volunters will probably put one on me. At least that has been my experience at 70.3 and IM branded races. I know it's unreliable and probably not a great plan but thats what I would do. |

Extreme Veteran 603 Glasgow, UK | Subject: RE: THE SLAYER RULES-FULL Up Hi all, yet again work is creeping in on the efforts but keeping my head above water with the training. This week is recovery week so I'm enjoying the more relaxed pace. I'm off travelling with work again but the trainers are packed so I should be able to get the runs in. I'm also considering a sports massage for a niggly calf. It's fine day to day but as soon as I run I can notice it's there. Any ideas on if I should or just keep up the work with the roller? In terms of hat advice I wear caps for sunshade and to keep my hair back. My fav is just cloth with a foam visor but not very good in the wint or rain so I have alternatives for typical UK weather. |
