Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Challenge Chat (aka Nibbs XVI) - come join us :) Here's my report from OWS practice this week: This week's focus was on drafting. They gave us two options for good places to draft: 1) Right behind the feet of the other person. Your fingers should basically brush up against the other person's feet. 2) Off to the side of the other person. Your head should be even with the armpit of the person you are drafting off. In general, the first option is a lot easier to do. With the second option, it's hard to coordinate the strokes without smashing arms. But, there are a few advantages. If you are swimming into the current, the first option is the best so that the person you are drafting off of do the work. If you are swimming with the current is coming across you , you want to be to the side and let the current break across the other person. Hopefully that makes sense. If not, let me know and I can try to clarify.

Heather - good news about the office assistant Scott - if it ain't fun, don't do it Kendra - orange car and a Wendy's wig. You got a red nose and some funky shoes to go with that ensemble? Jen - yay for OWS practice! My boss is hinting around that he wants me to become Head Lifeguard. Yikes. Don't know what to think about that. Had a decent swim today but am still eating like a pig. Have to self-medicate somehow. Hey there Pam, make sure that you get a big fat raise with that new title! can relate to the eating thing...left dinner the other night after my dd and I raced together and we ate everything in site...she can afford to...but me! NOT GOOD! I left there feeling miserable! and was not hungry til late afternoon the next day...thank goodness, cuz I ate enough for a few days supplies....plus we split a really nice bottle of Stags Leap wine....mmmmmmmmmm! If he actually offers me the position, I will find out what perks come with it before I make any decision. When he left back in August I know he recommended me as his replacement to our old director. But she never replaced him. My responsibilities would include scheduling the lifeguards and running in-service training. I know the job description also includes filling all vacant shifts which ain't gonna happen by me. I've worked here for 9 years. I am senior guard which means I get dibs on all shifts and lessons. He mentioned today that he was trying to get approval for a head guard and that myself and two others would be qualified. He said he would "open it up" to anyone once he gets approval. I think the only way I would consider it is if he asked me personally. I have no desire to get into a competition with other staff who actually really want that position. Is that a bad attitude, Professional Nibbs? |

One of them is a new hire whom I've never even met. The other I think would be fine. She's pretty laid-back and personable. |

Is that a bad attitude, Professional Nibbs? No, it's not a bad attitude. We did this where I work, actually. Since one person was interested in the new job, the rest of us stepped back and didn't apply for it. As Beth said, it depends on how you feel about one of the others taking the position. To give you an update on where I work, the person who took it is now talking about stepping down. Someone else said that if he does, she'll apply. And a third person said that if the second applies, she'll put in an application just to block her from getting it. Ah, the fun games of office politics.... LOL |
