I do have an embarrassing one I tend to listen while running. Bonnie Tyler - Holding out for a Hero. Yes I may have just made myself a little less manly today.

On more of a manly note

I also like Motley Crue - KickStart my Heart. The opening guitar part makes think of speeding up and shifting gears.

If you like trance/house music I recommend going on itunes and subscribing to the Above and Beyond podcast.  Its free for starters and then episodes are 2 hours long!!!!  That should get you through a long training day.  It's good back ground music and many times a song will appear to you that really gets you going or helps you push the extra mile.  At least it works for me!!!

Now I have to rant.  WTF!!!!!!  Why am I up to 175lbs now??????  I've been working out like crazy.  I'm so pissed it's not even funny.  My damn job totally screws me for eating grrr.  go to work at 3pm sit there till 1 am.  I'm trying to eat as early as possible too.  But by about 7-8pm there is jack crap to do till 1am, and I start to get hungry....  I so wish I could bring my trainer to work and ride while I'm there watching the paint dry.  Another problem is the lack of anything but fast and junk food around.  I'm ready to stop eating fast food and sugar (within reason) all together now!!!!!!!

end rant.

I feel your pain Doug.  It can be extremely frustrating!  I bring my lunch these days... and an truck load of snacks!  The real problem is, I rely on frozen meals (lean cuisine-smart ones-healthy choice) in an effort to eat relatively balanced and sensible.  But damn they get old!  I need to work on preparing real food - chicken breasts, tuna, nuts, fruits and veggies - but it is super hard to plan and prepare.  oh yeah, and eating healthy is more expensive than eating badly!  That doubles the dilemma!  I am not looking to lose and serious weight... I am looking to lean out - and this seems to be harder than when I was losing.  And I am doing 10x more cardio and strength stuff than ever before.  All it does it make me hungry... ALL the damn time!  I am forever hungry!!!

End rant as well.... patience, persaverence, blah, blah, blah!

It takes hangy-downeys of steel to admit that!  Good job! Now just hit delete... and add some Linkin Park!  Ha Ha!  What ever gets ya going...and keeps ya there!

Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins... does the speed up thing to me.  Twistin' the throttle on a crotch rocket comes to mind!..... Top Gun, like Caddy Shack...never gets old.  But that's another thread!

So I know this is counter intuitive to everything you hear about losing weight but you must eat carbs. Carbs/sugar are the fuel you burn while doing endurance sports and it is REQUIRED to burn fat.  I normally keep my diet ~60% carbs, ~30% protien, ~10% fat with my calories around 4k/day.  I don't count calories or anything but I check my intake a few times a year and this is just what it comes out as.

There is a nutrition section in Friel's trianing bible about periodization of food for each different training phase but I can't recall the details.  I'll try to look it up in the next few days.  Here's a good article for ya in the meantime...
http://www.sagewoodwellness.com/Doc0006.htm

So even if you get rid of the fast food, make sure you're eating enough carbs... if not you'll end up feeling sluggish. If I ever feel sluggish starting a workout I know I'm not eating enough and I make sure to have enough M&Ms / coke before the next one

Swim question... Ear plugs?  Do you swim with them? Do you recommend them?  the pliable kind that fit in your ear.  I have seen them and heard people recommend them for cold swims especially (escape from Alcatraz type water temps)... I get water in my left ear and it takes me a few minutes to get it out.  I have used drops to help and I have been pretty lucky...never have gotten an ear infection...even as a kid.  Open water swims - I am little more leary!

For some odd reason about early last year I now get water in my ear and it doesnt come out. I have to get Q-Tips and jam them in there to soak up the water to get it out. I had planned on gettting ear plugs but just havent yet. My first coached swim will be tomorrow so I need to do it quick.

Looks like I need to redo my intake. I am intaking about 25-2800 cals but at the 50-40-10 range of Protein-Carb-Fat. I am trying to drop lbs though. Plus I have totally avoid sugars.

You can just throw some rubbing alcohol in your ear after you swim and it will dry out the water.  I don't use plugs, I'm a real wo-MAN.

I am super excited, and just wanted to share.

I had my 6 week reassessment with my trainer today and we redid my body fat (calipers).

According to her measurments, I'm down 3%!

I am so excited I was jumping up and down in the gym.

G'day mates!!!!

Just got back from a run/walk and tasty brekky, so while i regain my energy  to make my way to the beach, I thought  I'd see what everyone is up to.

Todd....did you seriously just admit that you like Bonnie Tyler??!?!?!  Dude, or should we start calling you ma'am....I don't even think I have any words for this at the moment.

Nicole....3%....that's so awesome!!!!  way to go!!!

Despite my workout attempts, I've been throwing back drinks like a champ and eating like it's going  out of style.  I'll definitely be looking to lose a few lbs when I get home.

Also for me, negs on the ear plugs when swimming.

Swim workout #1 in the books. The hardest thing for me is finding a place to swim. I have found 2 tri groups that do group coached sessions. Of course the one with the best price is the furthest away and swim at 6 am. The other one is closer to my work for lunch or afterwork swims are easy but 3x the amount. Of course the Ballys I joined to swim at, that said they were doing some work and will be filling the pool in 2 weeks has been 5 months and no pool.

I need to release the lead weights in my legs because they sink like rocks. I had 2 good pointers and worked on them the whole time. Looking forward to my next one already.

Good deal on the coached swim Todd.  I am still treading water on that issue.  I feel like my swims are coming along, but it is hard to workout a meeting for a coach (even with having Eric here).  My schedule is rough and time is limited on most days.  For me, it is heavy doses of concetration on the swim... focused on form - every stroke!  Start to get lazy, tired, etc... And I see the change.
