Serous workout today!! I got up at 4:00 am an drove 2 hours to a lake and made about 1,000,000 cast to catch about 10 fish LOL!! But hey it was fun. Any way I just want to point out that Bass fishing is not as easy as some would think... I'm wooped after a hard day of fishing I need a rest day to recover from my rest day :-)

You guys have a good Sunday. I'm gonna eat a little Mexican food and drink a beer..

Bad news...I have food poisoning, or a stomach virus, or something else with fever included. Not sure how many days I'm out, but I've been so upset considering the weather this weekend and week.

damn, that's MY kind of training....does your casting arm need a recovery day? Did you use your gel packs to get through the rough parts?

Sorry to hear that! I think we've turned the corner on the weather...look at it this way, you may have missed the first nice weekend but there are PLENTY on the horizon! I guarantee it!

A little lesson on flexibility...

I did a 1:30 trainer ride Saturday....I haven't been on the trainer since the end of January....basically been using spin class as my 'bike' ride...it's not good enough so coach Nicki has me doing long rides on Saturday mornings instead of the extended spin class.....this week 1:45...

anway, relaxed Sunday (coached a little soccer outside but no stressful activity) and felt some tightness in my lower back..hmmm....

woke up this morning, ran my 5 miles before the swim..felt pretty good, comfortable 9:30 avg pace to save the legs for what I thought would be a 3000m swim...well, we finished the 1000m warmup and started a 50X50X50 kick/drill/swim routine and I made it 25m of kicking and both legs cramped up....I could barely get out of the pool!!!

And yes, I hydrated properly during the run w/ Heed and even had a bannana hammer gel after the run to get some energy in the tank...

Nicki said the cramping is caused by being tight...duh!. (she always corrects me...and that 'duh!' is for me..I should know better..Yell)...which i totally believe because this routine is NOT new to me..I've been running/swimming on Monday's for weeks....just haven't been biking on the weekends on my road bike......so, I'm tight and then the legs cramp up...so, now I'm gonna start stretching and yoga...

lesson learned.

Phil

Another personal best for me today. I ran outside for my first loooong outside run. The weather was AUsome so I could not resist doing it outside. I got in 12.07 miles in 2 hours 13 mins... I managed to run most of the way. I probably only walked about 5 mins of the entire run. I did not push it but I was pretty spent afterwards. I am still spent actually. haha... That was about a 11 min mile pace and my heart rate stayed in the mid 140's for 90% of the race. I did get it up a few times when I pushed it and hit a few hills but I would say it was a decent pace for me.

I have two weeks till my half marathon and it will be my longest race ever. Actually, the only race I have ever done is one 5K about 10 years ago. Haha.. I have not really set a goal but I would like to finish the race in under 2.5 hours. If nothing bad happens, That should be obtainable. But, my main goal is to finish and go on to my HIM>..

Kristen, take care of yourself. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

You guys know fishing is a tough sport. IT hard to keep the weight off doing it. Haha

Phil, I think I am lacking on my stretching as well. I really need to do more with my legs beforeand after I run and ride. I am starting to pick that up as well.

Have a good one..

Ryan

SAWFISH50 - 2010-03-08 8:15 PMNice Run Ryan!! great job. I ran 4 miles on the treadmill tonight.

I can see the big difference in making those long runs on the treadmill and on the ground. My big pounds on the ground so I need more work on there and less on the treadmill. I am going to try and do every run outside that I can now. Same goes for the bike. Its warming up so when the weather permits, I will be outside from now on...

Tomorrow should be a killer. I have a 35-40 mile bike ride outside and then immediately a 30 min run outside. I am sure my legs will still be sore from yesterday. I really think they were not completely over my long bike ride on Saturday when I ran yesterday. Lots of stretching today and tomorrow plus a little swim later today.

You guys have a fantastic day and dont hurt anyone. hahaha

This morning was Soooooo nice. I ran outside with just a couple of shirts - no jacket, no wool watchcap, although I did wear gloves, but my hands get cold quick. A nice 8 miler. My cold seems to have cleared up mostly, and the run was nice and comfortable.

Took the bicycle in for a tune-up on Saturday and picked it up the next day. Too busy to take it for a spin. Probably Saturday morning I'll go for a short ride to see how out of shape I am. But of course, its gonna rain all weekend. cr@p.

Ryan

I'm just the opposite. I hate my treadmill. Of course it is a cheap POS Pro-form and 5.0 MPH run (12 M/M pace) on that thing is a PE of 8-10 much harder than that recent 5k PR I ran @ a 9:20 mile pace. So It pi$$es me off that I have to set the MPH lower in theroy than I am acctually running so the distance covered is not correct. Depending on the distance it takes me 1 to 2 minutes a mile longer on the treadmill to cover the same virtual distance I cover outside at a pace of the same PE. Of course this is probably just My treadmill cause a few weeks back I ran on one at the gym and the calibration seemed to be much closer to my ability on the road. When I run on mine I usually just run by time and estimate the distance by how far I cover in the same amount of time outside.

Bruce glad your finally over that cold. Amazing how the weather wants to mess with us, gets warm but then it rains. Oh well wont be long and we will all be complaining about how hot it is outside.

William, I dont really like running on the treadmill but it has been where most of my running training has been done due to the weather. Remember, before last year, I have never run at all. And never on the treadmill so its all new to me. I dont have one so all my treadmilling is at the gym and I assume they are all pretty close. They have over 150 fo them at at the gym I workout at..

I would rather run outside but the treadmill does seem to cushion my pounding a little. Id really like to just spend a few weeks cutting weight but I know that would kill what little bit of endurance I have built up so I wont. I should have cut 15 pounds or so before I started but that is in the past. Cant change it now.

Finally got back in the pool today. It has been a week for me. When I was sick last week, I just could not make myself get in that cold water and swim. I could not get my breath at all anyway,

Today was a pretty good swim though. I did some drills for 20 mins or so then decided to do some laps since it has been a while for me. I started with two 16 lap swims (400m each) then did 3, 20 lap swims (500 ) each. I am not a fast swimmer and it shows. My 20 lap swims were around 11 mins each... I am getting better but not good enough yet. I just dont think I am a efficient swimmer. Starting tomorrow afternoon, I am going to get stroke lessons for a month from the olympic swimmer there at the gym. It was not overly expensive and I feel like it is the discipline I am the least comfortable with...

Good news!! Well first and foremost I think eveyone's amazing progress is such motivation to get me up and feeling better, so thanks!

So anyway, my virus turned out to be more of a 24hr bug, took off yest. from work to recover and thankfully felt much better today. I believe the sunshine got me moving also and got in a 4 mile run outside in a tshirt and capris Not as far as a I should be at right now, but I felt a ton better especially running with some short inclines which I normally don't do on the treadmill. I know it's going to cool down soon but at least it got me in the mood for spring!

Had to work late tonight. When I got home I changed into running gear and headed out into the dark. I run on trails and running paths so other than a couple of street crossings little danger of cars more likely to encounter a skunk. It was warm outside this evening mid to upper 60's so it felt great It is SOOOO much easier to breath with asthma in warm air than it is in cold air. I also tend to tolerate the heat much beter than cold so that is another plus on the comfort side. Anyway it was a nice night time run at an easy pace. Hope all of you guys are doing well.

Glad your feeling better Kristen... Hope you are back at 100% quickly.

Today was a murder brick for me. I was suppose to ride outside 40 miles on my bike then quickly transition to run within 2 mins and run 30 mins. Of course the weather sucked and I had to do it inside. Getting tired of that

I rode the spin bike for 2 hours then had a 90 second transition to the treadmill where I ran 30 mins. I started the run at 4.5 mph and increased for a few mins to get up to 6.0mph where I ran out the last 24 mis or so. Not bad on the run. My legs were actually pretty strong. I was surprised..

I had a few chomps and some water during the ride but I wished I would have had some sports drink too since I was on there 2 hours. When I ride outside, I always have both. I just didnt have it at the gym today. Pretty spent right now but I was stronger than i thought I would have been with the run. I had one little calf cramp but It went away. Very happy with that..

Tomorrow is swim/run then Bike on Saturday and Sunday will be my last long run before next weekends 1/2 marathon. 10 miles Sunday at race pace. My thoughts are 10.5-11 min miles.. We will see what I got on Sunday. hahaha

Nice run William. I dont have the guts to run at night yet. Plus, its still a little cold here in Ga at night.

Well guys I did a 1/2 marathon trail training run on the levy trails around my neighborhood. Wind was blowing well over 20 MPH and some of the parts of the run with head wind and high grass on the trail really tested my ability to keep moving forward. I averaged a little faster than a 13m/m pace which I feel is good for a trail rout with these conditions. Weather other than the wind was great about 70 degrees and sunny.. I love warm weather..

Race schedule so far for 2010 is

Hog's Hunt trail 25k April 10th

After that I'll either do the Rocky Raccoon 50k in November
Or
The Wild Hare 50K in November not sure which one I want to do yet.

Between these Trail races I have located a couple of nice Sprint Tri's to do but need to get my swiming in order when the Country Club pool opens back up in a month or so. I'll post the Sprints I want to do Monday. I have the links to them on my work computer and cant find them right now.

Ryan good workout you did in the gym buddy. I know you'll do fine on your 1/2 mary your faster than me and if I can run one today I know you can do it I'm pulling for you..

Have a good weekend guys.

I hope all of you get some of the great weather we have this weekend. I'll leave the door open for you guys so it gets warm for ya...

PS:

Phil we missed you glad your back ..

Race schedule:

Unite half marathon - April 18th

Philly women's sprint - July 11th

NJ state sprint - July 24th

Revolutionary Tri sprint - Aug. 15

Possibly adding in either Bike Eric or Broad St. Run on May 2nd

Also possibly Jersey Tour de cure June 19th

I'd really like to get in a sprint in June but haven't really found much. Also would like to find one at either end of Aug. or Sept., but would prefer an Olympic. I feel like my race schedule isn't really as full as I had wanted.

Headed to the gym in a bit to get in a run if I'm not blown away on my way
